Chapter 236 Was It Also Difficult to Deal with in the Field of Love?
Amelia stepped aside to take the call. As soon as she put the phone to her ear, Felix's somewhat anxious voice came through.
"Dr. Davis, do you have any spare fever-reducing medicine?"
Amelia frowned slightly and replied, "I do, but I'm not at the hotel right now. You should take Frederick to the hospital."
Felix paused at Amelia's emotionless tone and then cautiously said, "Mr. Hastings waited for you in the artificial pavilion in the hotel's back garden for most of the night. He might have caught a chill and now has a high fever. It's quite severe."
Amelia was silent for a few seconds.
Felix continued, "Mr. Hastings refuses to go to the hospital. You know his temperament. He hardly ever visits hospitals when he's sick, relying on just enduring it."
Amelia took a deep breath and said firmly, "Then let him tough it out. He's gotten through it all these years. This time shouldn't be any different."
Felix was taken aback by Amelia's words. He glanced cautiously at Frederick, who was lying on the living room sofa with a fever-flushed face, and lowered his voice. "There might not be any life-threatening danger, but I'm worried Mr. Hastings’ brain might get damaged from the fever."
Amelia was silent, then said, "Go ask the hotel front desk if they have any spare fever-reducing medicine."
Felix's expression turned a bit complicated. His mind raced, and he then pretended to be shocked and called out softly, "Mr. Hastings, what's wrong? Are you okay?"
After saying that, he hung up on Amelia.
Felix thought that being Frederick's assistant was extremely challenging. Not only did he have to navigate between different interests, but now he also had to act.
He sighed and was about to walk toward the living room when he looked up and met Frederick's deep, cold eyes on the sofa.
Frederick, who had heard Felix's voice in a daze, asked in a low voice, "Did you call me?"
Felix gave an awkward smile and walked into the living room, advising, "Mr. Hastings, let me take you to the hospital."
Frederick frowned, using his hand to support himself on the sofa as he got up. “No need.” His voice had a muffled quality.
Seeing Frederick trying to get up, Felix reached out to help him.
Frederick felt his head was unusually heavy, and his whole body ached inexplicably.
He pushed Felix's hand away and said in a low tone, "I'm fine."
However, as soon as he finished speaking and took a few steps, he felt dizzy and fell back onto the sofa.
Felix quickly reached out to support him.
Frederick lay back down on the sofa.
Felix sighed, realizing from Amelia’s tone that she probably wouldn’t return. He called the hotel front desk to request some antipyretics.
The staff at the hotel front desk, knowing the medicine was for Frederick's suite, decided to assign the task to the best-looking receptionist.
They teased, "If you manage to win over Mr. Hastings this time, don't forget it was us who gave you this opportunity. When you get ahead, don't forget us."
The receptionist blushed and playfully scolded her colleagues. "What are you all talking about? I'm just delivering some medicine."
Though she said this, she was affected by their words.
Frederick was wealthy and handsome, like a leading man straight out of a TV drama. No unmarried woman wouldn't want to have some connection with him.
Amber overheard the conversation as she walked into the hotel.
She frowned slightly, and her face turned sullen. She asked, "Are you delivering medicine to Frederick?"
The receptionist holding the fever-reducing medicine froze for a moment and nodded lightly. "Yes, Ms. Roberts."
Amber smiled faintly and extended her hand, saying, "Give it to me. I'll take it to Frederick."
Although the receptionist didn’t want to miss the chance, she knew Amber had some relationship with Frederick and was also a guest at the hotel.
She handed the medicine to Amber. “Thank you, Ms. Roberts.”
Amber smiled and took the medicine, not forgetting to admonish the receptionist with ulterior motives. "Focus on your job and don't entertain unrealistic thoughts. Frederick isn't someone you can get involved with."
Amber's voice was soft, but her eyes were filled with contempt and disdain.
The receptionists felt uncomfortable under her gaze.
What kind of people did she think they were?
Was Amber really that much better than them?
With the receptionists glaring at her, Amber walked toward the elevator.
Once inside, she looked at the medicine. It was fever-reducing medicine.
Had Frederick a fever?
This was a great opportunity.
Amber pressed the button for Frederick's floor.
In the suite, Felix poured Frederick a glass of water and then heard the doorbell. He got up to answer the door.
He expected a receptionist but was surprised to see Amber standing there.
Amber held the medicine, looking somewhat anxious. "I heard from the front desk that Frederick has a fever. Is it serious?"
She tried to step inside as she spoke, but Felix blocked her, saying, "Ms. Roberts, I'm sorry. Mr. Hastings isn't feeling well and can't see visitors."
Amber frowned and looked at Felix disapprovingly. "I brought fever-reducing medicine for Frederick."
Felix couldn't let Frederick take the medicine brought by Amber, so he declined. "We've already bought medicine. There's no need to trouble you, Ms. Roberts."
Seeing that Felix was determined not to let her in, Amber's face changed as she asked, "Felix, have I offended you?"
Felix shook his head. "No."
Amber stepped forward but was still blocked by Felix.
Losing all patience, she glared at Felix and scolded, "If I haven't offended you, then why won't you let me in?"
Felix thought for a moment and came up with a perfect answer. "Because you have ulterior motives toward Mr. Hastings, and my job is to keep those with improper intentions away during Mr. Hastings’ vulnerable moments. Ms. Roberts, it's nothing personal. It's about anyone with such delusions."
Amber's face stiffened, and she looked particularly unpleasant.
At the beauty spa.
Amelia felt uneasy about Frederick after Felix abruptly hung up. As Frederick's family doctor, she would feel guilty if anything happened to him.
She put away her phone, looking serious.
Billy noticed her concern and asked, "What's wrong?"
Amelia pressed her lips together and gave an awkward smile. "Sorry, there's an issue at work. I might need to go back and handle it."
Patricia was about to persuade her to stay, but Billy said first, "It's okay. Work is important. I'll take you back."
Amelia didn't refuse. "Thank you."
Billy replied, "No need to be polite."
On the way back to the hotel, Amelia bought some medicine.
Billy parked the car at the hotel entrance, and Amelia got out.
After taking a few hurried steps, she remembered she hadn't thanked Billy and turned back. "Thank you, Mr. Rodriguez. Sorry for the trouble."
Before Billy could respond, Amelia had already turned and walked quickly into the hotel.
Billy adjusted his glasses. If he remembered correctly, Frederick was also staying at this hotel.
In business, Frederick was a formidable opponent. He wondered if the same was true in love.
