Chapter 187 She Might Be an Affectionate Queen
Amelia's mood was complicated. As she lifted the cup of water to drink, Jesse held her wrist and whispered, "The water is too cold. It's not good for you."
As Ruth, who was sitting across from Jesse, listened to his words, she frowned and stared disapprovingly at Jesse.
Jesse took the water cup from Amelia's hand and had the waiter replace it with a cup of warm water.
In the VIP lounge upstairs, Frederick played with a glass of wine. His deep blue eyes were coldly fixed on Amelia, who was whispering to Jesse at the table below.
They were sitting close together, and their demeanor was intimate.
Scott glanced at Frederick and noticed the bulging veins on the back of his hand.
He chuckled softly and said, "It seems that Amelia has been quite popular with men after your divorce."
Frederick's gaze turned cold at the mention of that.
Scott leaned in next to Frederick and casually remarked, "Compared to that, Amber seems more affectionate. After all, she had only one boyfriend for all these years, which was you."
Frederick's eyes grew colder. "You can’t compare them."
Scott sighed lightly. "You seem to resent Amber for choosing to break up with you when Brittany gave her one million dollars during her most difficult time at the Hastings Manor. But she had her reasons, and she even returned the money after going back to her country. Amelia may not be interested in one million dollars, but she took billions from you in the divorce."
Frederick replied, "That's different."
"What's different?" Scott chuckled, lifted his glass, and looked down below.
Amelia was drinking water and leaning in to talk to Jesse.
Jesse's hand was resting on the back of the sofa behind Amelia. From Frederick's point of view, it appeared as if he was embracing her.
Scott instinctively glanced at Frederick when he saw that.
His expression was livid, and his deep blue eyes were tinged with anger.
Scott smiled and said, "There's nothing different about women. It all depends on whether you can get them. Once you get them, they're all the same."
He raised his glass and clinked it against Frederick's, then downed the drink in his glass.
When he saw that Frederick was not drinking, he poured more wine into Frederick's glass.
"Drink," Scott said.
Frederick's expression remained cold as he placed the glass on the table and softly said, "I'm not drinking. I'm on medication."
Scott raised an eyebrow and asked, "Is it medication prescribed by Amelia?"
Frederick nodded and said, "Yes."
"Did she forbid you from drinking?" Scott inquired.
Frederick nodded again.
Scott fell silent for a few seconds before saying, "Amelia is quite interesting. On one hand, she’s managing you, but on the other hand, she’s flirting with other men. You might just be one of the many men she likes."
Frederick's already stern face grew even colder.
After his divorce from Amelia, he had looked into Amelia's past with Daniel.
They had grown up together as childhood playmates.
After Daniel went abroad, Amelia actually had a brief relationship with someone, but it was very short-lived, barely lasting a month.
During that time, Amelia had also maintained contact with some admirers who pursued her.
She would occasionally have dinner with them.
Her behavior only completely ceased after she married him.
However, so she hid these behaviors more discreetly after they got married, perhaps because he hadn't paid attention to her initially.
Otherwise, she wouldn't have gone to Fondaniss with Daniel right after their divorce, and during the first year, she had a child with someone other than Daniel.
Two children had been born at the same time.
Scott leaned back on the sofa, watching what was going on downstairs, and casually added, "Amelia is quite the affectionate queen."
Frederick snapped, "Shut up."
Scott's fingers lightly tapped on the armrest of the sofa. He didn't continue speaking.
Frederick got up from the sofa with a cold expression and left the private room.
Scott smiled as he watched his departing figure, picked up the glass on the table, and took a sip of wine, his smile deepening.
Frederick was not as smart as he was rumored to be.
Downstairs.
Amelia looked at Jesse with a guilty expression.
During that time, her attention had been on Frederick, and she had drank because she found out that Frederick had a girlfriend. She hadn't known how to vent her suppressed emotions.
She didn't know that her actions would harm Jesse.
After Daniel emigrated to Fondaniss, her spirit became even more listless. She didn't want to do anything and just wanted to confine herself to her little world.
She was hearing about Jesse being forced to drop out of school for the first time today.
"I'm sorry." Amelia apologized to Jesse.
The bar was too loud, and Jesse didn't hear her clearly.
Amelia took a deep breath, leaned into Jesse's ear, and apologized sincerely. "I'm sorry. I wasn't doing well during that time. I didn't know you were forced to drop out of school."
Jesse smiled indifferently when he heard Amelia's sincere apology and said in her ear, "It's okay. It's all in the past."
Although he spoke lightly, he felt uncomfortable inside.
Amelia hadn't known that he had dropped out of school because of her.
She hadn't even known about his outstanding grades at school.
Many alumni who had already graduated had heard he had dropped out and had sent him messages to comfort him.
However, Amelia didn't know at all.
It was evident that she paid no attention to him, and perhaps, as Ruth said, she might not have even remembered who he was.
Jesse felt a sense of suffocation in his heart.
He unbuttoned the top two buttons of his shirt with a bitter smile.
For Jesse, this matter was certainly not easy to let go of.
When Daniel immigrated to Fondaniss, they had been about to enter their senior year.
Jesse had been expelled during his senior year.
Although some schools might have accepted him based on his grades, being in a new environment and being wrongfully expelled would definitely have affected his performance.
Amelia had never felt such a heavy sense of guilt before.
The feeling in her heart was indescribably uncomfortable, even more so than when she found out that Frederick had a girlfriend.
She had a drink once and ruined the life of a young man who had excellent grades and should have had a better future.
At this moment, the waiter brought Amelia a new cup of water.
As she reached for the cup, her hand trembled.
Jesse noticed her distress and took the cup from the tray for her.
Amelia took the cup Jesse handed her, feeling extremely conflicted.
She lowered her eyes slightly and thanked him softly. "Thank you."
Jesse smiled politely. "You're welcome."
Ruth looked at Jesse's caring expression toward Amelia with a hint of jealousy in her eyes.
