Chapter 233 He was like a peeping Tom
Amelia's colleague was the first to ask, "Who are you looking for?"
They had been in Tideport City for a while now but had never met Maria's father.
Previously, it was always Maria's mother, Sandra Thomas, who communicated with them, as well as Maria's grandparents.
When Amelia saw the man, her heart skipped a beat. She thought, 'Could he be Maria's father?'
Rodolfo noticed the curious stares from everyone, flashed an awkward smile, and softly said, "I'm Maria's father, Rodolfo Diaz."
In the hospital room, Maria heard Rodolfo's voice and exclaimed in surprise, "Daddy."
Rodolfo immediately walked into the room with an awkward smile.
Maria, sitting on the hospital bed, opened her arms towards him.
Rodolfo walked over and hugged her.
Although Maria was only lightly hugged by Rodolfo, her smile was the happiest it had been in a while.
Seeing Maria like this, Amelia lowered her gaze.
Sandra also rarely smiled and introduced Rodolfo to the professors in the room.
Rodolfo, shaking hands with the professors, expressed tearful gratitude that felt sincere.
Amelia just watched quietly, unmoved.
While everyone was comforting him, she kept her head down, flipping through documents.
After the professors finished their rounds, they left Maria's room.
Amelia also left with the other assistants.
She had just taken a few steps when Sandra called out to her. "Dr. Davis."
Amelia stopped and turned to see Sandra standing with Rodolfo, smiling. "Honey, it was Dr. Davis' plan that helped stabilize Maria's condition this time. You should really thank her."
Rodolfo looked very grateful and said, "Thank you, Dr. Davis. It's been hard on you. You came all the way from Kasfee. I greatly appreciate you. I'm a straightforward person and not very good with words."
Amelia felt a twinge of discomfort upon hearing him describe himself as straightforward.
If she hadn't overheard those things in the restroom earlier, she might have been deceived by his honest appearance.
Rodolfo was excited and wanted to shake hands with Amelia, but Amelia instinctively took a step back, and the resistance in her eyes was unmistakable.
Rodolfo hesitated, his eyes filled with panic and guilt.
He didn't know if Amelia had heard something, which made her so opposed to him.
Sandra had actually had little interaction with Amelia during this period.
Amelia exuded an air of elegance and nobility, which created a sense of distance compared to ordinary people like them.
Sandra pulled Rodolfo and said with a smile, "Don't scare Dr. Davis."
Amelia remained calm and said plainly, "It's fine. Maria's condition is still not optimistic. In the coming days, I hope you, as parents, can spend more time with her. A happy child will also aid in her recovery."
Amelia gave a few official words of advice and then left with her colleagues.
While watching Amelia leave, Rodolfo felt guilty and asked Sandra, "Does Dr. Davis have a problem with me?"
"Dr. Davis probably doesn't like getting too close to people. You didn't do anything wrong, so why would Dr. Davis have something against you?" Sandra said as she walked into Maria's room.
Rodolfo smiled and said softly, "It's just that I haven't come to see Maria for a long time because of work. I worry that Dr. Davis might think I'm an irresponsible father who doesn't care about his child."
Sandra sighed lightly. "It's all for the Maria. The doctors can understand."
Amelia returned to the temporary office with her colleagues. After a brief rest, everyone got busy again under their respective professors.
When it was time to leave, Amelia walked out of the hospital with Kimberly.
Kimberly had an argument with one of the senior professors earlier and was still angry, so she didn't speak on the way.
At the hospital entrance, Amelia saw Rodolfo.
Carrying some fruit, Rodolfo approached them with a friendly greeting.
Although Kimberly was still upset, she controlled her emotions and started chatting with Rodolfo.
Rodolfo expressed his gratitude once again.
Amelia stood quietly beside Kimberly the whole time.
Rodolfo cautiously observed Amelia.
Amelia felt uncomfortable under his gaze, so she asked calmly, "Do you have a question for me?"
Rodolfo, caught off guard by Amelia's question, gave an awkward smile and replied, "No, I don't. Just couldn't help but take a few extra glances at such a beautiful doctor like you."
Amelia immediately frowned.
Kimberly smiled faintly and said softly, "Dr. Davis is indeed very attractive, but her medical skills are even more outstanding. You have some rare time to accompany Maria today, so you should go up. We're heading back to the hotel."
Rodolfo nodded respectfully and watched Amelia and Kimberly leave.
Amelia was about to hail a cab with Kimberly when the Rodriguezs' car stopped in front of them.
Amelia didn't recognize the Rodriguezs' car and was about to help Kimberly walk around it.
The driver got out and opened the door, and Patricia stepped out, dressed like a lady of high society.
She proactively called out to Amelia. "Ms. Davis."
Amelia stopped when she heard Patricia's voice, replying, "Mrs. Rodriguez."
Patricia walked up to Amelia, her tone extremely gentle and kind as she said, "I added you on social media, but you didn't accept. I was worried you were busy working and didn't want to disturb you, so I came to wait for you at the Tideport City Hospital entrance. Luckily, I met you."
When Amelia heard that Patricia had added her on social media, she smiled apologetically and said, "Sorry. I was busy with work today and didn't check my phone. I'll accept your friend request right away."
As Amelia spoke, she took out her phone.
Kimberly immediately understood Patricia's intentions, so she lightly patted Amelia's hand and said, "Ms. Davis, since you have other appointments, I'll head back to the hotel first."
"Ms. Harris..." Amelia was about to use Kimberly as an excuse to decline Patricia.
Kimberly smiled, took Amelia's hand off her arm, and said earnestly, "You're not getting any younger. Don't be engrossed in work all the time. You should consider your personal life."
Seeing Kimberly being so cooperative and hearing Amelia address her respectfully, Patricia quickly invited Kimberly into the car and said, "Ms. Harris, don't stand on ceremony.. You're Amelia's mentor, which makes you like a mentor to Billy as well. I should give you a ride back to the hotel. I might need your kind words in the future."
Kimberly declined several times but couldn't resist Patricia's enthusiasm and eventually got into the car.
Across the street, Felix sat in the driver's seat. Seeing Amelia get into Patricia's car, he smirked. He didn't need to look in the rearview mirror to know how grim Frederick's face was.
They had been waiting here for a while, like voyeurs, watching Amelia's every move after she left the hospital.
To be honest, Felix found it quite embarrassing.
But he didn't dare to say anything.
