Chapter 482 Their Best Option
Vincent looked at Amelia with a hint of worry, scanning her face like he was scared she might fall apart again. He asked carefully, "When did you find out?"
Amelia rubbed her temples, her eyes slightly red, and glanced at Vincent's hand with a twinge of heartache. She sighed, "Dad, I told you not to go to the Hastings Group to find him. We..."
Just as Amelia was about to continue, Casey showed up outside the dining room. She quickly changed her tone. "I'm not back with him, not even close to breaking up. Why did you go looking for him? Who he wants to be with is his own business. To me, he's just Anna's biological father and nothing more."
Amelia sighed deeply and reached out to hold Vincent's hand. "From now on, don't go to the Hastings Group anymore. It's over between him and me."
Seeing that Amelia didn't seem too sad or upset, Vincent felt relieved. He said, "As long as you're not sad. I was mainly afraid you'd get hurt again."
Amelia knew the recent revelations had been a double blow—finding out Layla was her mother and Nancy was Layla's daughter. Vincent's earlier confrontation with Frederick had been born out of that rage.
Her eyes moist, she spoke softly, almost whispering to Vincent, "Dad, they don't matter to me, so they can't hurt me. But if something happened to you, I'd be devastated. I don't want you to get into any trouble because of me. Rachel has been very tired lately. Adding more trouble, I'd feel incredibly guilty."
Vincent wiped the tears from Amelia's eyes. He said softly, "Alright, I won't go looking for him again."
Amelia nodded, though unease gnawed at her. With a mole in the Davis Manor, she dared not tell Vincent everything. Casey stepped closer, clearly hesitant.
"Sorry to bother you. I thought Mr. Davis and Ms. Davis had finished eating and were about to come in to clean up," she apologized.
Vincent replied calmly, "We've finished eating. Go ahead and clean up."
Casey nodded and quickly started cleaning. As she cleaned, she cautiously glanced at Amelia, noticing her slightly red eyes and showing a subtle expression.
After reassuring Vincent, Amelia went upstairs. Peeking into the children's room, she saw Anna playing with blocks alongside Susan. She quietly continued to her own room to call Frederick, dialing the monitored number swiftly. The phone barely rang before Frederick answered.
"Frederick, no matter what, my dad helped you back then," Amelia began, not giving him a chance to speak. "Even if our feelings have faded, you shouldn't have hit my dad, right?"
Frederick's expression changed instantly upon hearing Amelia's words. He knew very well why Amelia was calling. But her tone was so serious that Frederick couldn't help but feel uneasy. He was silent for a few seconds before responding to Amelia. "I didn't hit Mr. Davis."
Amelia's voice became even colder. "Then how did my dad get hurt?"
Frederick took a deep breath, trying to control his panicked emotions. He hurriedly replied before hanging up, "Amelia, don't use this as an excuse to cause trouble. I'm busy now. Bye!"
Amelia stared at the screen, seeing the call had ended, and frowned. Soon, her phone buzzed with a flood of apology messages from Frederick using a different number.
Frederick: [Honey, I'm sorry, I was wrong.]
Frederick: [The scene was chaotic at the time, and I couldn't hold Dad back.]
Frederick: [Is Dad very angry? I'll come over now to apologize to him.]
Amelia frowned. If Frederick really came over, Rachel's plan might fall apart. Rachel had put so much effort into this plan, and Amelia didn't want it to fail because of this. She had indeed called Frederick out of anger. But now, her rationality was taking over.
Amelia: [If you come over, won't everything be exposed?]
Frederick: [The most important thing now is that I can't offend Dad too much, or I won't be able to enter the house in the future.]
Amelia looked at the message, her eyes showing little emotion.
Amelia replied: [I will discuss it with my sister. Don't come over and ruin her plan.]
Frederick: [Then you have to explain things to Dad for me.]
After sending this message, Frederick waited but didn't receive a reply from Amelia. He couldn't shake the feeling that he was just a doormat.
Amelia used to prioritize emotions, but this time she was clearly more rational, which made him feel insecure.
Frederick kept pondering over Amelia's messages, feeling more and more upset by her calmness. Meanwhile, his face, which Vincent had punched, was still throbbing with pain.
He suddenly remembered something and sent another message to Amelia.
Frederick: [Is Dad's injury serious? I left in a hurry to avoid suspicion, and Dad must have been very angry, so he used all his strength when he punched me.]
After sending this message, he waited for a while but didn't get a reply from Amelia. He reviewed his message, worried that he hadn't made his point clear, and added another sentence.
Frederick: [My face is swollen now.]
He waited for a long time but still didn't get a reply from Amelia. Feeling frustrated, he tossed his phone aside. He then thought of something and immediately sent a message to Felix.
Amelia had just finished a call with Rachel when Tom called.
"Mrs. Amelia Hastings, Mrs. Brittany Hastings mentioned that she hasn't seen you and Ms. Anna Davis in a while and invited you to the Hastings Manor tomorrow. Are you available?" Tom asked gently.
Without hesitation, Amelia agreed. "I'll come over with Anna after work tomorrow."
Tom's tone noticeably brightened. "Then I'll have the kitchen prepare some of Ms. Anna Davis's favorite dishes."
"Thank you," Amelia replied softly. "How's Grandma doing?"
Tom quickly replied, "She's doing well. She's heard about some of the things happening with Mr. Hastings. Tonight, it was Mr. Hastings who called to make the arrangements."
Amelia immediately understood Frederick's intention behind this arrangement. The Hastings Manor was the only place that wasn't being monitored. She had a good relationship with Brittany, who could be considered her support. Even if she and Frederick appeared at the Hastings Manor together, people would just think Brittany was standing up for her. So meeting at the Hastings Manor was their best option.
