Chapter 357 Scott Said He Had Never Lied to Her
"Do you think I don't want to stay at General Hospital for treatment? It's him who won't let me," Amber's voice wavered with frustration. "He doesn't want me in front of you! He even wants to destroy me now."
Her face was etched with desperation, but she was powerless against Frederick. She couldn't break free from the deadlock he had created. With no other options, she decided to seek help from Amelia.
Amelia stopped mid-stride, turned around, and gave Amber a cold, indifferent glance before looking away. "That's between you two. Don't drag me into it," she said curtly, turning to leave.
Panic surged through Amber. She scrambled off the hospital bed and crawled toward Amelia, her movements frantic. "No, it has to do with you. It always has," Amber pleaded, her voice breaking. "From the beginning, I've been nothing but a stand-in for you. I've always been your counterfeit."
Her desperation mounted as she continued, "Ms. Davis, as long as you talk to Frederick and ask him not to ruin me, I promise—I'll never appear in front of you again. I swear." Tears streamed down Amber's face as she knelt on the ground, her voice raw and desperate. "Ms. Davis, I'm begging you."
Amelia's assistant quickly bent down, trying to help Amber up. "How can you do this?" the assistant scolded gently. "If you have something to say, say it properly. This is emotional blackmail."
Amelia's assistant thought, 'She is too crazy now. Who begs like this?'
Amber refused to get up and insisted on kneeling.
Amelia quietly watched Amber for a long time, her eyes full of conflict and hesitation. After a while, she finally spoke softly. "What do you want me to do to help you?"
Amber's face lit up with joy when she heard Amelia speak. She looked up at Amelia and quickly replied. "Frederick likes you so much. You just need to tell him not to release my scandal to the media, not to report me, and I'll leave Kasfee immediately. I can go abroad right away and never come back."
Amelia fell silent, her eyes darkened slightly.
Seeing Amelia's silence and not immediately agreeing, Amber quickly added. "Frederick likes you so much. He will definitely agree with you."
As she spoke, she wanted to kowtow to Amelia again.
Amelia grabbed her. "A man's affection is fleeting and illusory. Who knows when it will end?"
Amber was stunned for a long time by Amelia's words.
She bit her lip tightly and looked up at Amelia, her eyes filled with tears. "Dr. Davis, you still don't want to help me, do you?"
Amelia nodded honestly. "Yeah, I don't want to help you, I don't want to interact with you, and I don't want to see you."
Amber fell to the ground upon hearing Amelia's words.
Seeing her like this, Amelia withdrew her hand and walked away.
Amber watched Amelia's retreating figure, tears streaming down her face.
"Dr. Davis, do you even realize why you and Frederick have missed each other for all these years?" she called out, her voice cracking with the weight of her confession.
Amelia's steps faltered slightly, a frown marring her composed features as she turned around.
Amber, sensing a slight opening in Amelia's stern facade, continued, desperation fueling her words. "I know you've always been insecure about your feelings for Frederick, so I kept exploiting that. As long as Frederick had any connection with me, you would get sensitive, nervous, and even overthink. It was like this three years ago, and it's the same now."
Amelia paused mid-step, her brow furrowing in discomfort.
Her feelings for Frederick were indeed riddled with insecurity.
Three years of marriage had stripped her of any self-confidence she once had.
She had tried so hard to be the perfect socialite—a gracious hostess—but despite her efforts, she hadn't garnered a shred of affection from Frederick.
"Dr. Davis, although I hate to admit it, Frederick has liked you from the beginning," Amber confessed, her voice tinged with a mix of bitterness and resignation. "Frederick thought I was the interesting, kind girl his mother mentioned, who had liked him for many years. He thought I was the girl who liked him so much that she studied medicine to treat his mother."
Amber's voice dropped to a whisper, barely audible but piercing through the air like a sharp blade. "Mrs. Hastings was right. A fake is a fake. It can never become the real, valuable thing."
Last night, Amber was shocked to see Frederick fight Sebastian just because Sebastian insulted Amelia. She had never seen Frederick so out of control.
When she was with Frederick, there were many mocking comments about her because her background and family couldn't compare to Frederick's.
Those comments were even harsher than what Sebastian said about Amelia last night.
But Frederick never fought anyone for her.
Amber was acutely aware that she no longer stood a chance in front of Frederick.
If another scandal broke, if she was reported again, it wouldn't just be about her chances with him; it would mean losing everything she had.
She would face professional ruin, potentially landing herself in debt with hefty fines to pay.
After making a significant amount of money online, the thought of going back to a mundane life—working a regular job and earning just a few thousand a month—was something she couldn't bear.
The idea of being ordinary again felt suffocating, almost like being trapped in a cage.
"Dr. Davis, if Frederick hadn't mistaken me for someone else, I wouldn't be in this situation now. Tell me, does this have anything to do with you?" Amber's voice was filled with accusation and desperation.
Amelia came to a complete halt. She turned to face Amber, staring at Amber for what felt like an eternity, searching for any sign of deceit. But Amber's gaze remained steady, pleading, ready to be at Amelia's mercy.
"Dr. Davis," Amber continued, her tone turning more desperate, "if you have concerns, I can go abroad first. I swear I'll never appear in front of you again."
Amelia looked at her, her eyes deepening. After a while, she spoke softly. "Go. I'll talk to him."
Amber was overjoyed to hear Amelia's words. "Dr. Davis, thank you, really thank you. I'll leave right away. I promise not to appear in front of you."
She thanked Amelia while getting up from the ground and quickly left, disappearing from Amelia's sight.
Amber's swift movements seemed to indicate that Amber was afraid even a moment's hesitation might cause Amelia to change her mind.
Amelia watched her leave, a complex mix of emotions swirling within her. She turned to head back to her clinic office when a man's voice halted her.
"She tormented you for so many years, and you just forgave her like that?" The voice was dripping with incredulity.
Amelia turned to see Scott standing with his arms crossed, leaning casually against the wall. His tall frame conveyed an air of laid-back curiosity.
"She's a liar. Do you really believe what she said?"
Seeing Scott made memories of the previous night flood back. When Frederick and Sebastian fought, Scott had been there, watching from the sidelines, a nonchalant observer.
When she had just returned to the country, Sebastian was dating her sister, which meant he couldn't possibly spill the beans about Frederick's whereabouts to Amber.
Noah and Yves were close friends with her sister, so they wouldn't have done it either. Only Scott had the kind of relationship with Amber that would allow him to inform her about Frederick.
"So, don't believe her. Should I believe you?" Amelia's tone was icy, laced with hostility.
Scott snorted, clearly amused by her suspicion. "I never lied to you."
Amelia shot him an indifferent glance, didn't answer, and walked toward the office.
Scott followed her, a smile tugging at his lips. "You're the clinic doctor today. Can you give me a check-up?"
