Chapter 444 Nancy Must Know Something
The news of Frederick beating Dylan had been suppressed after several days of effort, but suddenly it went international.
The moment the story hit, all those foreign companies working with the Hastings Group freaked out and pulled the plug on their deals to cut their losses.
Amelia did some digging and found out that the first outlet to break the news was a foreign media company registered under Ken's name.
She tried calling Ken right away, but he didn't pick up. She kept calling, but eventually, he just blocked her. It was pretty obvious Ken had something to do with the leak.
Frustrated, Amelia started looking for flights to Fondaniss.
There was an early morning flight the next day. Just as she was about to book it, her phone rang. It was Billy.
She was a bit surprised to see his name pop up but answered out of politeness. "Mr. Rodriguez."
Since coming back from Tideport City, she hadn't heard much from Billy. If he hadn't called, she might've forgotten about him entirely.
"Ms. Davis, long time no see," Billy's deep voice came through. Amelia bit her lip, trying to think of a way to end the call quickly. But Billy kept talking, his tone calm. "I'm in Kasfee now."
Amelia frowned, remembering she had promised to host Billy if he ever came to Kasfee. She rubbed her temples, feeling a headache coming on.
"Mr. Rodriguez, welcome to Kasfee. I'm really sorry, but I've got a lot going on right now, so I might not be able to..."
Billy cut her off, "I know Mr. Hastings is in some trouble, and you're probably stressed. I came to Kasfee because Mr. Angoulême is here too. We came back from Fondaniss together."
Amelia shot up from her seat, "Really?"
Billy quickly gave her an address. After jotting it down, she rushed out of her room.
Vincent had already arranged for Amelia to visit Frederick for five minutes, thanks to a friend of his. Knowing Felix had been running back and forth between the detention center and the company, Vincent asked him to let Frederick know Amelia would visit that night. Felix agreed right away.
With everything set, Vincent saw Amelia coming downstairs. "Amelia, I've already—" he started, but she didn't wait for him to finish. She bolted out the door and drove off.
Billy had mentioned Ken would be leaving soon, so she had to get to the hotel in twenty minutes. If she was lucky, she might catch Ken and get him to listen to her side of the story.
Amelia sped to the hotel Billy had mentioned. When she got there, Billy and Ken were just stepping out.
Ken's face turned sour the moment he saw Amelia. He tried to walk past her, but she grabbed his arm, desperate. "Ken, please, let me explain. There's more to that video."
Ken shot her a cold, angry look. "You killed him," he spat. "He thought of you as a friend, and you killed him."
Amelia's face went pale as she tried to explain what really happened that day. But Ken just glared at her and then shook her off so hard she almost fell. Luckily, Billy was there to catch her. "He's mad now. I'll talk to him later," Billy whispered.
Amelia looked up at him, her eyes showing a flicker of gratitude. "Thank you," she whispered.
Billy replied calmly, "No problem. Helping you helps me too."
Billy and Frederick had a joint project abroad, and this whole mess was screwing it up. Billy needed Frederick out of detention to get things back on track.
"You wait inside the hotel," Billy said, giving her shoulder a reassuring pat. "We might be a few hours."
Amelia nodded and went into the hotel. She was worried that if she left, she wouldn't get another chance to talk to Ken. He had a lot of influence in Fondaniss and controlled most of the media. She couldn't risk losing Frederick's projects to bad press.
Billy and Ken came back to the hotel around two in the morning. Ken's expression was still sour when he saw Amelia at the front desk, but the hatred in his eyes had lessened. "I won't let anyone who hurt Dylan get away with it," Ken said. "But since you were with him in his final days, I can forgive you. But you need to prove that Dylan's death wasn't your fault."
Amelia's heart sank. Nancy's words flashed through her mind. Nancy had said that on the day Dylan died, she was at Kingsley Group. She must know something. Clenching her hand at her side, Amelia looked at Ken seriously. "I'll get you the evidence," she promised.
Ken nodded, still cold. "Bring the evidence, and I'll retract those reports and help the Hastings Group." He stepped into the elevator, leaving Amelia to process his words.
Billy saw how pale she looked and said softly, "I'll take you back to the Davis Manor. You probably shouldn't drive right now." He noticed her trembling hands and his expression turned serious.
Amelia nodded lightly, "Okay, thank you, Mr. Rodriguez." She couldn't afford any mistakes now; she had to stay safe while getting the evidence to Ken. Handing her car keys to Billy, she let him drive.
Amelia stayed mostly silent during the drive, her mind racing with thoughts on how to find the evidence. 'Nancy must know something. But she won't give it up easily. Without evidence, Ken will never forgive Frederick,' she mused.
