Chapter 375 What He Wants Won't Be That Simple

Rachel's words caused Layla's face to flush with anger.

Noticing that many people around them were curiously watching, she quickly reined in her emotions, put on a faint smile, and looked at Rachel with gentle eyes, speaking softly. "Rachel, I know you resent me for being so heartless and leaving you and your sister back then. I'm also aware that as a mother, I have been somewhat negligent. From now on, I will stay in here more often so I can make up for what was missing in the past."

Rachel's gaze turned icy as she glanced at Layla, her tone devoid of any emotional inflection. "Couldn't make it in the Yaradia? Well, your backer is dead, so what status could you have in there? Nicholas's first wife is a friend of the First Lady, and women like you, who are eager to climb up, must be worthless in their eyes."

Layla was hit where it hurt by Rachel, her expression almost faltering.

Rachel watched the change in Layla's expression, sneering slightly, her gaze sweeping over Layla provocatively.

Layla was infuriated by Rachel's attitude, but under the watchful eyes of many, she had to maintain a graceful smile.

"Ms. Davis," a deep voice sounded behind Rachel. "Mr. Briggs is leaving; come to see him off with me."

Rachel turned to see Charles standing there, his presence commanding attention. She nodded lightly and smiled, "Coming." With deliberate steps, she walked toward Charles, leaving Layla with an extremely complicated expression.

As Rachel reached Charles's side, his gaze swept over Layla. Then he walked side by side with Rachel toward Jason.

Jason had a flight back to Yaradia tonight. He attended today's exchange meeting out of respect for Charles.

Now that he had met Rachel and expressed his intention to collaborate with her, he was waiting for the exchange meeting to end so Rachel could visit Yaradia to assess the market and then discuss further.

Rachel and Charles saw Jason off to his car. Jason extended his hand out of the car window to wave goodbye to them.

Charles and Rachel raised their hands simultaneously, waving back with a seamless coordination that resembled that of a newlywed couple bidding farewell to their wedding guests.

Layla stood at a distance, watching Charles care for Rachel, her brows furrowed. Rachel had always resented her over the years, and Charles also held a grudge because she had interfered in his parents' marriage.

If these two got together, her position in the Wright family would be even more precarious.

Layla took a deep breath, gripping her wine glass tightly, unable to stop clenching her teeth.

After seeing Jason's car off, Rachel turned and immediately saw Layla walking back into the hall. Her eyes turned cold as she glanced at Charles standing beside her.

Charles still wore a casual smile.

Rachel's lips curled slightly as she glanced in Layla's direction and asked softly. "Ms. Murphy, how's your relationship with her?"

Charles's expression remained unchanged, and his tone was calm. He replied, "Not good."

Rachel chuckled softly, "So your approach to me is probably because of her, right? My relationship with Layla isn't good either, so if you want to use me to attack her, you might be disappointed."

Charles looked down at the proud and cold Rachel beside him and smiled. "Maybe not. You don't get along with her, and neither do I. If we team up, do you think we can take her on?"

Rachel looked up at Charles, silent for a few seconds.

Charles met Rachel's gaze openly and said with a smile. "What, can't get past the blood ties?"

"No," Rachel answered straightforwardly.

How could she not get past that? When Layla left, she was still sick with a high fever.

On the day Layla left, she chased after Layla's car for a long time, but the car only sped up, showing no intention of stopping.

That illness almost took her life. Blood ties? Layla's existence completely tainted that blood.

Charles withdrew his gaze from Rachel and walked toward the hall, speaking softly. "A few months ago, Nancy Wright offended the princess of Yaradia royal family, and some of her luxury goods companies were boycotted by the royal family. Nancy often follows your financial reports, so she replicated your route, always mimicking the Davis Group's design style. A few years ago, the Davis Group even sued her company."

He turned to Rachel with a meaningful smile. He continued. "Now that she's being boycotted, it's the best time for the Davis Group's designs to enter Yaradia market."

The Briggs family had intricate ties with the Yaradia royal family. If the Davis Group successfully collaborated with Jason, they could completely replace Nancy's previous monopoly on luxury goods in front of the royal family.

Rachel listened to Charles's words, frowning slightly. Nancy, she rarely paid attention to. Because she loathed Layla so much after taking over the Davis Group, she rarely followed Layla's movements.

She had no interest in Layla's children either. However, she knew about the luxury goods company in Yaradia that followed the same route as the Davis Group and had been sued by them.

Rachel raised an eyebrow. "Elegant Company?"

Charles nodded, "Good memory."

Rachel sneered, "Hard to forget."

Elegant Company had plagiarized the Davis Group's designs and released them as that year's fall collection.

The Davis Group sued them, but Elegant Company dragged the lawsuit on for a year. Although the Davis Group won, the prolonged time caused it to lose any buzz.

Elegant Company still held a place in the Yaradia luxury market.

Foreign brands plagiarizing the Davis Group's designs wasn't a rare occurrence, but she hadn't expected Nancy to be behind Elegant Company.

Rachel uttered calmly, "If the Davis Group's brand successfully enters Yaradia market, I'm willing to give Mr. Wright ten percent of the profits. Thank you, Mr. Wright, for today's introduction."

Charles smiled, "Ms. Davis, you are generous. But I'm not interested in your ten percent profit."

Rachel looked at him, puzzled, unable to guess what Charles wanted.

Charles gave her a mysterious smile and then said softly, "I need your help to deal with Layla and Nancy, so now our relationship should be considered a partnership. I can't just take advantage of you."

Rachel's gaze at Charles remained probing. He could handle Layla and Nancy on his own. She didn't believe what he wanted was that simple.
