Chapter 464 Charles Calls Rachel
After taking a deep breath, Rachel rubbed her temples, plopped down on the sofa, and told Tina, "Get everyone together for an emergency meeting about the West Suburb project."
Tina nodded and left Rachel's office. As soon as she stepped out, a bunch of colleagues swarmed her, asking what was up.
Tina just gave them the gist of the meeting.
When they heard it was about the West Suburb Project, everyone looked worried; it was a major deal involving many powerful families.
One colleague said, "But the Hastings Group is giving us a hard time. Can we really get in on that project?"
Tina stayed calm and said, "If you have questions, bring them up with Ms. Davis in the meeting."
Everyone sighed at that.
The last time the Davis Group had problems, they leaned on the Hastings Group. Now, with a conflict brewing between them, things looked pretty grim for the Davis Group.
"Come on, guys, stay positive. If the Davis Group goes down, it's bad news for all of us. We're in this together, and our future depends on each one of you," Tina said, trying to boost morale.
Some employees got back to work with determination, while others seemed uninterested or even considered quitting. Tina noticed their reactions, feeling a bit down. Rachel, on the other hand, could always switch to the entertainment industry if she left the business world. Her charisma had a way of showing people's true colors.
Sitting in her office, Rachel watched the meeting room on the surveillance feed, a slight smile on her face.
Then her phone rang. Seeing it was Charles, she hesitated before answering. "Mr. Wright."
Charles chuckled, sensing the distance. "Ms. Davis, you stood me up without even a call. That really hurt my feelings." He had cleared his schedule when he heard Rachel was flying to Yaradia, planning a bunch of important meetings. But Rachel had returned to Kasfee without telling him.
So Charles called Rachel to ask why she hadn't contacted him.
Rachel felt a bit embarrassed but stayed calm. "Sorry, I've been super busy and forgot to call you, Mr. Wright. I'll make sure to let you know next time."
Charles chuckled, "Ms. Davis, are you planning for a next time?"
Rachel could only chuckle back, "Sorry for the hassle, Mr. Wright. We ran into some unexpected issues this time."
Charles gave a faint "Hmm," then, with a more serious tone, added, "Since you had a good reason, I'll let it slide this time. But don't let it happen again."
Rachel replied calmly, "Thanks for understanding, Mr. Wright."
Charles continued, "Ms. Davis, did you think about what it means not to call me these past two days? If you tick me off and I cut off your connections in Yaradia, what will you do?"
Rachel's grip on the phone tightened as she processed his words. "I know you're not one to hold grudges over small stuff." She hadn't really thought about this issue in the past few days. She was aware of her changing feelings and wanted to avoid Charles.
Charles's laughter was light but carried weight.
Rachel could almost picture his handsome face as he chuckled. "Mr. Wright, I have other matters to attend to, so..." she began, trying to end the call.
"Go ahead. Goodbye," Charles replied.
"Goodbye," she said softly before hanging up.
In the meeting room, everyone was already waiting. As Rachel approached the door, she heard intense discussions inside. As soon as she entered, the room went silent.
"Why did everyone stop talking as soon as I came in? The focus of this meeting is to discuss the West Suburb project. I hope everyone will speak up," Rachel said, her sharp gaze sweeping over the crowd.
But no one dared to speak first, intimidated by Rachel's strong presence.
After breakfast, Amelia headed to the hospital. She hadn't been there for a while, and work had piled up. Exiting the car, she hurried inside, nearly bumping into Nicole and Jesse at the elevator. Nicole quickly took Amelia's arm, noticing her exhaustion. "Amelia, don't be sad. It's not worth it for a jerk like that," she said softly.
Nicole's words caught the attention of everyone in the elevator and they were eager for more details.
Amelia rubbed her temples and said calmly, "I'm not sad. Let's not talk about this, okay?"
Nicole respected Amelia's wishes and didn't continue the topic.
When the elevator reached Amelia's floor, she gently released Nicole's hand and said softly, "We'll talk later."
Nicole didn't stay in the elevator but followed Amelia out, whispering, "I still have some time before my shift. I have something to tell you." Her face couldn't hide her happiness.
Amelia glanced at the gift box in Jesse's hand and immediately guessed. "Are you getting married?"
Nicole's face turned red, and she lightly tapped Amelia's shoulder. She smiled, "I knew I couldn't hide anything from you. Jesse and I are indeed planning to get married. And we're having the wedding next month. Amelia, you're my best friend. I hope for your blessing."
Hearing Nicole, Amelia suddenly thought of Dylan, her eyes reddening. She didn't take the gift box from Jesse.
