Chapter 174 Seeing That Their Relationship Was Not as Harmonious as It Seemed on the Surface, He Was Happy
Madison tightly held onto Amelia's arm as she spoke.
Amelia caught a glimpse of Frederick walking out of the elevator from the corner of her eye, her eyes flashing slightly as she held Madison's hand in return.
Her voice was soft, speaking in a tone only she and Madison could hear,
"Dylan had saved Anna and me, so Anna could be his daughter."
Madison paused for a moment, immediately understanding Amelia's meaning.
As long as they didn't cause trouble and didn't disturb Anna, Amelia wouldn't mind these things.
But if the Kingsleys continued to cause trouble, affecting Anna's normal life, or even if these matters were to be exposed to the public, then Amelia would only reveal the truth.
Madison's expression was serious, and she fell silent in the end. Amelia smiled lightly and said softly, "Madison, I'm not preventing you from seeing Anna. It's just that you're too eager, and I'm afraid you'll influence her."
Madison sighed and accepted the fact that Anna was not Dylan's child, calming down as well. She didn't respond to Amelia's words but just left with her cane.
Amelia watched her leave.
Madison looked worried, keeping her head down the whole time, not even noticing as she passed by Frederick.
Amelia observed her current state, raising an eyebrow slightly, realizing that her words had quite an impact on her.
However, what Madison had said earlier was indeed too much.
Frederick knew Madison's character. She had always been strong-willed.
If anyone upset her, she would definitely make a scene.
Unexpectedly, with just a few words, Amelia managed to make Madison leave quietly without any argument.
Frederick looked at Amelia, feeling puzzled, and said softly, "It seems you have your way of entertaining the elderly."
Brittany was like this, and now Madison was too.
Amelia smiled calmly and replied, "Perhaps I have the potential to attract the elderly."
She turned and walked back into her office. Frederick followed her in.
When Amelia turned around, she saw the mess in her office and paused, forgetting about the chaos in her office.
Frederick also noticed the scattered documents in her office.
Obviously, their conversation with Madison was not as harmonious as it seemed on the surface.
He glanced at Amelia, feeling relieved for some reason as he saw that the conversation between Madison and Amelia was not as peaceful as it appeared.
Amelia smiled awkwardly and stepped inside to pick up the scattered documents.
Frederick also helped pick up some and placed them on Amelia's desk.
Amelia organized the documents on the side and looked at Frederick.
Amelia asked, "Are you here to see Brittany?"
Frederick shook his head and said in a deep voice, "The medicine you prescribed is running out, so I came to get the third course of medication."
Amelia had been a bit agitated by the Kingsley family's affairs recently, so she had almost forgotten about this.
Previously, Frederick would occasionally take the medicine, sometimes taking half a month to finish a week's worth of medication.
This time, he finished it on time, which surprised Amelia.
Amelia asked, "Have you had any business dinners recently?"
"Yes, but I didn't drink," Frederick replied honestly.
"It seems you are a very trustworthy person," Amelia said as she opened her computer to prepare the third course of medication for Frederick.
Frederick's gaze softened as he looked at Amelia, and he said, "I should be trustworthy in your eyes."
Amelia raised an eyebrow and denied it. "That's not what I meant."
Frederick looked at her dismissive expression and felt a bit frustrated.
Amelia's gaze remained fixed on the computer screen as she swiftly processed the prescription for his third course of treatment.
She handed the medical card over to Frederick, about to offer some words of advice when the voice of Daniel resounded at the doorway.
"Amelia."
Amelia glanced up, turning toward the entrance, where Daniel stood with one hand on a suitcase and the other carrying a gift box, stepping into the office.
A glint of joy shimmered in her eyes as she managed a smile. "You were scheduled for tomorrow's flight, why have you arrived today?"
Seeing Frederick seated in Amelia's office, Daniel's eyes flickered with a subtle change in expression before smiling toward Amelia.
Daniel said, "I was concerned about a potential delay with tomorrow's flight, which may have prevented me from celebrating your birthday with you, so I rescheduled my flight."
Amelia's realization dawned upon her. She had been exceedingly preoccupied lately, even forgetting her birthday.
Amelia said, "It's touching that you remembered my birthday amidst your busy schedule."
Daniel placed the gift box on Amelia's desk.
Daniel said, "This is a birthday present I've prepared for you. You'll absolutely adore it."
Amelia, intrigued by Daniel's words, felt a surge of curiosity about the contents of the gift inside the box.
What could it be that she would like so much?
Meanwhile, Frederick sat stiffly in his chair, observing the exchange between Amelia and Daniel with a pang of discontent at the sight of her delighted expression.
He reached out and took hold of the medical card, his tone somber and displeased.
Frederick said, "Ms. Davis, you haven't mentioned how the medication should be taken yet."
Amelia suppressed her urge to unwrap the gift box and began instructing Frederick on his medication regimen.
However, Frederick was distracted and couldn't focus, his mind preoccupied with Amelia's intense gaze on the gift box, her eagerness to open it evident.
It seemed that upon receiving a gift, Amelia displayed a demeanor reminiscent of a young girl eagerly anticipating its unveiling.
Frederick's mood grew increasingly somber.
Throughout the three years he had lived with Amelia, even on their wedding anniversary, he rarely prepared gifts for her, let alone for her birthday.
He didn't even know when Amelia's birthday was.
He had never seen Amelia's expression when she opened a gift she liked.
Daniel noticed Frederick's increasingly intense gaze toward Amelia and understood what it meant as a man.
Frederick wanted to possess Amelia.
With this realization, Daniel became wary. He wasn't sure how things had been between Amelia and Frederick during this time.
But he could clearly sense that after three years of divorce, Frederick had developed a strong attachment and possessiveness toward Amelia.
"Mr. Hastings, are you feeling unwell?"
Daniel spoke timely, intervening in their conversation to assert his presence.
While talking to Frederick earlier, Amelia's tone was gentle and natural.
However, Daniel suddenly interrupted her, causing Frederick to look displeased.
He gave Daniel a deep look and said in a cold tone, "Naturally, I'm not feeling well; that's why I came to see her during her working hours."
He emphasized the words "working hours" more than the others, then looked at Amelia with a hint of displeasure.
"As a patient, I was just ignored by Ms. Davis, can I complain about you?" Amelia remained silent.
