Chapter 460 Their Relationships Are Complicated

Frederick shot Rachel a cool look and said, "Ms. Davis, you're overreacting. It's totally normal for the market in Kasfee to have its ups and downs."

Rachel smirked, her eyes shifting to Nancy. "So, why'd Mr. Hastings pull the plug on the Ascending Company project?"

Nancy raised an eyebrow and, after hearing Rachel's words, slowly got up from her seat. She smiled at Frederick. "Since you've got other things to handle, I'll head out."

Frederick nodded and casually told the receptionist at the door, "Show Ms. Wright out."

The receptionist nodded, gave Nancy a polite smile, and led her out of the office.

Tina, sensing the tension, also left the office, closing the door behind her.

Nancy glanced back to catch Frederick's expression but only saw Tina standing guard at the closed door.

Just then, the elevator doors opened, and the receptionist said respectfully, "Ms. Wright, please."

Nancy finally looked away, a faint smile on her face, and stepped into the elevator. She knew that the Davis Group and the Hastings Group had a small joint venture that had helped the Davis Group through rough times.

Now that Frederick had stopped the project of that small company, it was clear he had made up his mind and didn't want the Davis Group to keep leeching off the Hastings Group.

This was a golden opportunity for Nancy. If Frederick ditched the Davis Group and teamed up with her instead, it wouldn't take long for her to make a name for herself in Kasfee. Plus, she had some connections in Yaradia, which would help her smoothly push Rachel out of the picture. Nancy's lips curled slightly, feeling much more at ease.

Back in Frederick's office, Rachel stood in front of his desk, barely containing her anger. "Mr. Hastings, care to explain this?" she demanded.

She had just arrived at the Davis Group when Tina told her there was a problem with the Ascending Company project and that Frederick had halted it. She hadn't planned to confront Frederick so soon, but it seemed he wasn't giving her any breathing room.

Frederick met her intense gaze, tapping his custom pen thoughtfully. His eyes hinted at something more, and Rachel quickly understood—there was a bug in the office. "That project had safety issues," Frederick said calmly. "Stopping it for inspection was necessary. Do you really want another mess like Riverfront Estate?"

Rachel frowned, her tone a bit more forceful. "That's a lame excuse. The safety issues are bogus, and you know it. The Davis Group had safety consultants all over this. Are you trying to use these minor issues to push them out?"

Frederick's expression stayed indifferent as he calmly replied, "Survival of the fittest, Ms. Davis. If minor issues like this throw you off, maybe the Davis Group doesn't have what it takes."

Even though she knew Frederick was just putting on a show, Rachel was still pissed off by his attitude. She gritted her teeth and shot him a dirty look.

Frederick said, "Ms. Davis, if there's nothing else, please leave. I'm swamped and don't have time for idle chatter."

Rachel, fuming at his dismissive tone, clenched her teeth. "Mr. Hastings, I don't have time for nonsense either. Don't even think about reallocating the western suburbs project. Half of Kasfee's families have a stake in it, and giving it to an outsider is a move you really can't afford."

Rachel spun on her heel and stormed out, slamming the door behind her. The loud bang echoed through the executive office, drawing curious glances from the assistants and secretaries. The receptionist stood by nervously as Rachel and Tina marched to the elevator.

"Ms. Davis, take care," she called out, but Rachel just snorted coldly. As the elevator doors closed, the receptionist felt her legs turn to jelly.

The other staff in the executive office started whispering. "What happened? Why was Ms. Davis so upset?" one asked quietly.

Another added, "She's probably the only one who dares slam Mr. Hastings's door."

The receptionist shook her head, not knowing the full story but sensing that Rachel had come looking for answers.

The atmosphere hinted at a brewing storm between the Davis and Hastings Groups, threatening to disrupt a long-standing alliance that had survived even through Amelia and Frederick's divorce. Was Nancy's influence the spark?

Inside the office, employees speculated silently. Amelia, with her commendable personality and career, always seemed a bit overshadowed by Nancy's strategic presence. If Frederick leaned toward Nancy, the Hastings Group could reach new heights.

However, Rachel was known to have a good relationship with Charles, the heir of the Wright family. If the Davis and Hastings families really became enemies, the outcome would be uncertain.

The receptionist's expression was very subtle. She remembered what Nancy had said to Amelia in Frederick's office earlier.

"Their relationships are as tangled as they come. The wealthy live in a world of complexities." the receptionist muttered.

The other staff in the executive office were puzzled.

The receptionist had initially liked Nancy's personality. After all, to her, Nancy seemed like a gentler version of Rachel. Rachel was too aloof, making her hard to approach.

But now, thinking about how Nancy knew about Amelia and Frederick's relationship and still openly showed her affection for Frederick, the receptionist couldn't help but feel her morals were shaken.
