Chapter 397 Liking Felix
Amelia also felt that Frederick's words were quite rude, and there was a hint of awkwardness in her smile.
After taking a deep breath, Rue calmed down and signaled the staff behind her to bring the gift boxes inside.
Anna loved unwrapping gifts. Seeing so many gift boxes being brought in, she clapped her hands with an excited smile on her face.
Seeing how much Anna liked it, Amelia no longer refused them. She smiled at Rue and said, "You shouldn't have spent so much."
Rue smiled back, but before she could respond, Frederick, holding Anna, interjected indifferently from the side. "She got a lot of deals at the conference today, so spending a little money is only fair."
Rue felt the veins on her forehead throbbing uncontrollably but managed to agree. "Mr. Hastings is right. If it weren't for your help, I wouldn't have even gotten into the venue today, let alone signed any deals."
With a faint smile, Amelia invited Rue inside. "Come in and have a seat. You got the deals because of your ability. It has nothing to do with anyone else."
As Amelia spoke, she glanced at Frederick, who was busy helping Anna unwrap the gift boxes.
Every time a small gift was unwrapped, Anna would let out a joyful exclamation, making Rue breathe a sigh of relief to see that Anna liked the gifts she brought.
While Amelia and Rue chatted, Frederick played with Anna.
Rue said with a grin, "I've booked a table at a new restaurant. I heard the environment is beautiful, and so many of my friends have said the food is good. Ms. Davis, you don't have any other plans tonight, do you?"
Amelia smiled. "I don't have any other plans tonight, but since you're here at the Davis Manor, it's not right for you to be the one to treat us to dinner. How about you have dinner here tonight, Ms. Jelena?"
Rue quickly took Amelia's arm. She insisted, "I've already confirmed the booking, Ms. Davis, so please accept my invitation. It's notoriously hard to get a table there, and even if we don't go, they'll still charge me a booking fee, so let's go there for dinner tonight.
"Ms. Davis, don't worry about not having a chance to treat me to a meal. I'm shameless enough that I might just show up at the Davis Manor for a meal in a few days," she joked, winking.
Frederick chimed in from the side. "At least you know yourself well."
Amelia smiled lightly and said, "You're welcome anytime."
Rue, encouraged by Amelia's response, gave Frederick a challenging look.
Frederick paid no attention to Rue and continued playing with Anna.
Amelia smiled and continued chatting with Rue.
From Rue, Amelia learned that she had recently tried to hire Felix to the Jelena Group, but Frederick found out. So, Frederick had been treating her as an enemy lately.
When talking about Felix, Rue couldn't help but feel distressed. Breaking off her engagement with Frederick was bad enough, but failing to hire Felix made things even worse, and she kept running into obstacles with Frederick.
Listening to Rue, Amelia raised an eyebrow. No wonder Frederick treated Rue with contempt; it was because Rue wanted to hire his right-hand man.
If Felix had been hired by someone else, Frederick wouldn't be as relaxed as he was now.
After all, Felix's business acumen was well-known.
Amelia hadn't expected Rue to admit such a thing so openly, and her gaze toward Rue became more relaxed. She nodded with agreement. "Felix is quite hard to hire."
Rue nodded seriously before whispering, "He's also hard to date."
Amelia paused, thinking she had misheard.
She looked at Rue with some confusion, but Rue casually took a sip from her cup, showing no embarrassment. "I can't even get him to go out with me," she explained.
Rue resisted the urge to curse and smiled at Amelia. Felix was really hard to get. He always politely refused her, and she couldn't find a breakthrough. Honestly, Rue felt quite defeated lately.
Although Rue smiled, Amelia easily noticed the spark dimming in her eyes.
Amelia understood all too well what it felt like to be constantly rejected.
She pursed her lips, unsure how to comfort Rue, when Rue put down her cup and took Amelia's arm. "Ms. Davis, you must accept my invitation later," she teased.
Seeing the cunning look in Rue's eyes, Amelia nodded and agreed. "Okay."
Rue's face lit up with a smile when Amelia agreed. They chatted for a while longer before heading out together.
As they were leaving, Vincent happened to return, and Rue warmly invited him to join them.
However, Vincent's fishing buddies were coming to the Davis Manor for dinner, so he politely refused..
Rue had driven herself, but when she saw Felix parking his car at the Davis Manor, she didn't get into her car but instead got into the passenger seat of Felix's car.
Seeing Rue get in, Felix couldn't help but frown, clearly exasperated by her actions.
Felix parked the car at the restaurant entrance and got out to open the door for them.
After getting out, Rue saw Felix about to return to the driver's seat and grabbed his arm. "Felix, just give the car keys to the restaurant staff. Let's go in together," she advised.
Felix's expression remained polite. He gently declined. "Thank you for the invitation, Ms. Jelena, but I won't be joining you. I have a business dinner to attend tonight."
As he spoke, Felix looked at Frederick and said seriously. "It's the assistant manager from the Reed Group."
Frederick nodded slightly. "Don't drink too much."
"Yes, Mr. Hastings," Felix replied softly, glancing at Rue's hand on his arm. "Ms. Jelena..."
Rue took a deep breath, her expression showing some displeasure. "He's just an assistant manager. Is he more important than me, the future heir of the Jelena family?"
Rue tried to use her status to put some pressure on Felix. Felix's expression remained courteous. He replied, "Of course, he's not more important than you, Ms. Jelena."
Rue snorted. "Then why don't you want to have dinner with me?"
Felix was momentarily speechless and looked to Frederick for help.
Frederick glanced at Rue before addressing Felix. "You can go."
Taking Frederick's cue, Felix quickly left.
Watching him leave, Rue glared at Frederick.
Rue had known that she and Frederick were clearly not suited for each other. He didn't like her, and she had no interest in a man who had feelings for another woman. But now he was even stopping her from messing around with a capable man who could marry into the Jelena family.
Frederick was simply infuriating. Rue cursed him in her mind.
