Chapter 214 He Had Always Regretted Divorcing Amelia Three Years Ago
Frederick's gaze toward investments was sharp, and his approach to business was exceptionally meticulous. Over these years, hardly anyone had managed to find any fault with him.
No wonder some called him a genius in the business world.
"Mr. Hastings, you are indeed considerate," Joe praised.
Frederick walked to the suite door and glanced at Joe, asking, "Is there anything else?"
Joe shook his head immediately. "Nothing."
Without another word, Frederick stepped into the suite.
Once the bedroom door closed behind him, Joe sighed and said to Paul, "Mr. Hastings is so meticulous in his work; he probably has no regrets in his life."
Over the past three years, Frederick had led Hastings Group with remarkable progress, making almost no mistakes.
Joe truly admired Frederick.
Paul remained composed and smiled faintly, saying, "Mr. Hastings has done things he regrets, which is why he is so meticulous in his work."
The decision to divorce Amelia three years ago had been weighing heavily on Frederick ever since.
Joe was astonished. He had never expected Frederick to make decisions that he regretted.
"Joe, it's getting late. You should go back and rest early. I won't accompany you," Paul said.
Seeing that Paul didn't intend to continue the conversation on that topic, Joe didn't dare to inquire further and simply nodded before leaving.
Back in her room, Amelia nearly collapsed onto the bed and fell asleep.
The next morning, just as she finished getting ready, there was a knock on the door.
Amelia opened the door and saw Paul.
"Ms. Davis, breakfast is ready at the hotel. Mr. Hastings asked me to invite you."
Amelia politely declined. "Please thank Mr. Hastings for his kindness. I will have breakfast with Ms. Harris."
Paul replied respectfully, "Kimberly has already gone downstairs."
Amelia hesitated for a moment and then followed Paul downstairs.
In the restaurant, Amelia spotted Frederick and Kimberly from a distance.
Kimberly was sitting opposite Frederick, and they seemed engrossed in conversation.
"Ms. Davis, come here." Upon seeing Amelia, Kimberly waved at her.
Amelia quickened her pace and walked over.
Kimberly immediately shifted to a nearby chair to let Amelia sit.
As Amelia took her seat, she found herself directly across from Frederick.
Seeing her approach, Frederick gestured for the waiter to serve.
Throughout breakfast, Frederick's gaze was almost always on Amelia. His ambiguous eyes made her somewhat uncomfortable.
Internally sighing, Amelia smiled politely and turned to Kimberly beside her, asking softly. "Mrs. Kimberly, what were you and Mr. Hastings discussing earlier? Please, continue."
Kimberly looked at Amelia, smiled, and replied, "If we were to talk, you might feel uncomfortable."
Amelia paused, then asked, "Is the topic related to me?"
Kimberly smiled and remained silent.
Seeing this, Amelia shifted her gaze to Frederick to seek answers.
However, Frederick did not respond.
As breakfast progressed, Amelia couldn't help but wonder what Frederick and Kimberly had been discussing.
Why had he invited Kimberly down first?
By the end of breakfast, Amelia could hardly remember what she had eaten.
After breakfast, several executives from the Hastings Group branch in Tideport City came to escort Frederick.
Amelia and Kimberly returned to the hospital.
On the way back, Kimberly continued discussing the child's condition with Amelia.
Amelia listened attentively, putting the restaurant incident out of her mind.
The child's family was not well-off. They had sold their property to fund her treatment.
Yesterday, the hospital had organized a fundraising event, and Amelia had shared the donation message from her personal account.
As Amelia and Kimberly reached the entrance, they encountered the child's mother.
She was emotional, holding Kimberly's hand and tearfully expressing gratitude.
"Maria has hope now. The fundraising event yesterday raised a lot of funds, enough to cover the treatment costs for a while. And a well-known figure is willing to help publicize Maria's case."
Kimberly and Amelia genuinely felt happy for Maria when they heard this news.
After entering the child's ward together, they saw the celebrity mentioned by Maria's mother, causing Amelia to pause.
Amelia never expected to encounter Amber here.
Amber was sitting by Maria's bedside, gently massaging her hand.
Maria had been receiving treatment during this period, so her hands and feet would occasionally become numb.
Kimberly walked over to thank Amber.
With a smile on her face, Amber politely said, "I'm just doing my best."
When she spoke, her expression changed slightly upon seeing Amelia. She pretended to be surprised and asked, "Ms. Davis, why are you here?"
Amelia remained composed and replied, "Ms. Roberts, I didn't expect to see you here either."
Amber smiled wryly and said softly, "Right. What a coincidence. I didn't know Maria was your patient. If I had known, I definitely wouldn't have appeared before you."
Amelia furrowed her brows.
All eyes in the ward were on Amelia.
Amber's words clearly indicated to everyone present that there was a conflict between Amelia and her, and it ran deep enough for Amelia to dislike Amber upon sight.
Despite Amber's provocative words, Amelia remained composed and unruffled.
She said calmly, "Why did you say that, Ms. Roberts? I don't believe we have a significant conflict between us. And I'm not Maria's primary physician. If it bothers you, I can step back from the treatment team. I hope you won't stop supporting Maria because of our relationship. Please continue to assist her."
Amber was momentarily taken aback by Amelia's response, her expression slightly embarrassed.
Amelia redirected the conversation back to her with a few words, leaving her feeling awkward.
All eyes turned back to Amber.
Amber could only force a smile and say, "I certainly won't stop supporting Maria because of you."
Kimberly intervened with a smile. "Everyone wants the best for Maria. Ms. Davis, Ms. Roberts, regardless of any past conflicts between you two, we hope both of you can set aside your differences for her sake."
Amelia smiled humbly, nodded, and extended her hand towards Amber. "Ms. Roberts, let's make amends."
Upon hearing this, Amber felt a surge of discomfort. Amelia, who clearly despised her, was surprisingly pretending to reconcile with her at that time. She was furious.
However, she couldn't be capricious with so many people watching. She could only smile slightly, extending her hand to give Amelia a brief handshake.
Amelia, with a composed smile on her face, lightly gripped Amber's hand, then withdrew her own.
Amelia's current calm and collected demeanor revealed no flaws, much like how she had appeared three years ago when Amber mistakenly believed Rachel was Frederick's wife.
At that moment, Amelia was just as composed.
