Chapter 497 Thank You for Your Clarity

Rachel glanced up at Sebastian, her eyes narrowing slightly. "Are you talking about Orville Larson?"

Sebastian nodded. "Yeah."

Rachel's eyes darkened a bit at his confirmation. Orville had recently shown interest in working with her, but now he was teaming up with Sebastian instead.

She sighed inwardly, then forced a smile. "Aren't you worried I'll steal your business if I come along?"

Sebastian stayed calm, his gaze warm. "If you can take this project from me, it just proves you're capable. Why should I be scared?"

Rachel's expression didn't change as she looked at him.

Sebastian felt a slight sting in his heart but kept his emotions in check. He smiled gently, his eyes tender. "So, want to come with me?"

Rachel was silent for a few seconds before nodding. "Sure."

Sebastian was pleased with her response. "Then take my car."

Rachel nodded. "Alright."

She handed her briefcase to Tina. "Put my briefcase in the study. Tell my dad I won't be home for dinner," she said calmly.

Tina took the briefcase and nodded. "Yes, Ms. Davis."

Rachel turned and walked toward Sebastian's car. He quickened his pace, opened the passenger door, and invited her to sit. Rachel bent down and got in.

When Sebastian moved to fasten her seatbelt, she had already done it herself. "Mr. Kingsley, let's go," she said coolly.

Sebastian nodded, got into the driver's seat, and started the car. This time, he avoided talking about their relationship and focused on the South Suburb Project.

"Mr. Larson heard about your recent clash with Frederick and is worried about the fallout, so he chose to work with me," he explained.

Rachel's gaze remained calm. Her conflict with Frederick was just a show, but to outsiders, the Davis Group seemed on the brink of collapse.

She looked out the window, her eyes cold. "Since Mr. Larson chose to work with you, it's clear you've been interested in this project for a while and have probably been in contact with him behind the scenes."

Sebastian was taken aback by her directness, but he had already planned to explain himself. "Yes, but I actually contacted Mr. Larson before you did. My decision to turn down the project had nothing to do with you."

He looked at Rachel with some urgency. Seeing she had no intention of interrupting, he continued, "I did some things out of anger that made you uncomfortable. But in this matter, I didn't use any tricks. Rachel, I was just blinded by anger at the time."

Sebastian had learned that after Rachel arrived in Yaradia, she didn't meet with Charles and instead returned directly to Kasfee.

If Charles had really mattered to her or if Rachel had wanted to get on his good side, she wouldn't have left so quickly; she would've at least met with him.

Lately, Rachel seemed to have lost interest in the Yaradia project, which suggested her contact with Charles was minimal.

As Sebastian calmed down and reflected on his panicked actions, he felt deep regret.

Rachel leaned back in her seat, staring straight ahead, unaffected by Sebastian's words. She remarked calmly, "Mr. Kingsley, you were right earlier; if Mr. Larson chose to work with you, it just proves you have the ability. I haven't signed anything with Mr. Larson, so whoever he picks is his business. He chose you because you're capable, so you shouldn't feel any burden."

Sebastian's expression stiffened at her words. He was glad she didn't misunderstand him, but her indifference cut deep. It was like they never had any feelings for each other.

He took a deep breath and said, "Besides me, Nancy also contacted Mr. Larson. He was worried that working with Nancy would offend you, so he chose me. It's not because you failed, so don't feel bad about losing this project."

Sebastian felt a layer of sweat forming on his palm as he gripped the steering wheel.

Rachel's expression remained calm as she looked out the window and asked softly, "Have you met with Ms. Wright?"

Sebastian was stunned for a moment by her question and didn't answer immediately.

Rachel curved her lips slightly, withdrew her gaze from the window

Sebastian paused for a moment before replying, "Yes."

She curved her lips slightly, showing no disappointment. "Does she also want to invest in this project?"

Sebastian nodded. "Yes." Nancy had contacted him after learning he had secured the project from Orville, expressing her interest in investing. But he had refused.

"Rachel, I know about the grudge between you two. I won't be that foolish." Sebastian's eyes were particularly urgent as he spoke, worried about being misunderstood.

Rachel remained silent for a few seconds, and then nodded. "Then thanks for telling me, Mr. Kingsley."

Sebastian felt a pang in his heart at her calling him "Mr. Kingsley," but he was helpless. He withdrew his gaze and focused on driving until they reached the restaurant.

At the restaurant, Rachel opened the car door and got out first.

After exiting the car, Sebastian handed the keys to the valet and was about to lead Rachel into the restaurant when she suddenly stopped.

Following Rachel's gaze, Sebastian saw Nancy talking cheerfully with Orville.

It looked like they had reached some sort of agreement.
