Chapter 292 Amelia Isn't Responding
Frederick's voice was deep and smooth, with a hint of temptation.
Amelia tried to calm her racing heart and looked up at Frederick standing in front of her.
They were so close, she had to push against his shoulder with her hand.
She sighed, "Mr. Hastings, why are you so stubborn?"
Frederick's eyes were full of affection. He whispered, "How will we know if we don't try?"
Amelia's faint scent drew him in. He leaned in to kiss her, but she quickly covered his mouth with her hand.
She chuckled, "Mr. Hastings, I haven't agreed to your pursuit yet, and you already want to kiss me. Isn't that moving too fast?"
Frederick raised an eyebrow, looking warmly at Amelia's mischievous smile. He wanted to speak, but she pushed him away firmly, making him back off.
Frederick wanted to reach out and grab her, but he was afraid she'd get mad, so he held back.
Amelia glanced at him and then turned to get into her car.
Frederick held the passenger door, leaning down to the window.
"Will you pick me up tomorrow morning?" He casually waved his right hand as he spoke.
Amelia rubbed her forehead. She grumbled, "Mr. Hastings, are you trying to pursue me or exhaust me?"
Frederick looked at her tired face and said softly, "There's another option. You can stay here tonight, and we can go together in the morning."
Amelia looked at his negotiating expression and said softly, "Forget it. I'll pick you up tomorrow morning."
She started the car and looked away. "Please close the door for me."
Frederick knew she'd refuse, but her resistance still stung a bit.
"Be careful on the road, and send me a message when you get home. If there's any problem..."
Before he could finish, Amelia interrupted softly, "Close the door."
Frederick was stunned for a moment, a trace of helplessness in his eyes. Then he straightened up and closed the passenger door for her.
Once the door was closed, Amelia stepped on the gas and left Spring Villa.
Frederick stood there watching Amelia's car disappear before turning and walking into the house.
Driving back to home, Amelia had to pass through a commercial street.
While waiting at a red light, she saw Nicole standing with a man, holding hands and shopping.
The lights in the commercial area were too chaotic for Amelia to see the man's face clearly.
She smiled slightly and took out her phone to send Nicole a message.
Amelia: [Secretly dating behind my back, not cool.]
After sending the message, the light turned green, and she quickly stepped on the gas and left.
Back at the Davis Manor, she had just parked the car in the garage when Nicole's call came through. "Where are you?"
Nicole thought Amelia was also in the commercial street when she saw the message.
Amelia closed the car door and said softly, "At home."
Nicole didn't believe her. She asked, "Then how did you know I was dating?"
Amelia chuckled softly, speaking mysteriously, "Nothing escapes my eyes."
Nicole laughed, "I was planning to tell you on my birthday, but you found out early."
Amelia raised an eyebrow and asked, "Where's he from? What does his family do? What does he do for work?"
Nicole was stunned by Amelia's questions and took a moment to realize that Amelia might not have seen Jesse's face clearly.
She smiled, "I'll tell you on my birthday."
Seeing Nicole's desire to keep the man's identity a secret, Amelia didn't press further. After all, she had known Nicole for so many years and had never seen her holding hands with a man while shopping. She must really like him.
Amelia said, "Alright, announce it on your birthday. Go on with your date; I'm going upstairs to sleep."
Nicole chuckled softly and said, "He had something to do and left, so I'm driving home now."
She then shared some other things with Amelia, including details about their relationship. Hearing Nicole's gentle tone, Amelia felt happy for her. Nicole was about to get married.
At the Spring Villa, Frederick sat on the sofa, continuously calling Amelia, but the phone kept mechanically prompting, "The person you are calling is on another call. Please try again later."
Felix stood nearby, seeing Frederick's face turn from slightly joyful when he returned to gloomy. Felix couldn't help but swallow nervously, trying to calm him down. "Mr. Hastings, Ms. Davis might be handling work matters."
Frederick glared at Felix, "I'm calling her private number."
Felix paused, then said, "Personal numbers can also be used for business."
Frederick snorted coldly and started searching for Dylan's number in his contacts. He had gotten Dylan's contact the last time they met. After finding Dylan's number at the bottom, he hesitated for a few seconds before dialing.
Dylan's number wasn't busy and was quickly connected. Frederick's frown slightly relaxed, but just as he was about to hang up, Dylan answered. "Frederick?"
Dylan's voice carried a hint of confusion and was particularly hoarse as if his throat was injured.
Frederick replied coldly, "Yes, wrong number." He then hung up immediately.
At the Davis Manor, after hanging up Nicole's call, Amelia realized she had been sitting in the car talking to Nicole for half an hour. After turning off the car, she got out and went inside. As soon as she entered, she received several missed call notifications from Frederick. She glanced at them, paused for a few seconds, and then sent a message to Frederick.
Amelia: [Home safe.]
After sending the message, Amelia put her phone on silent, put it away, and went upstairs. In the bedroom, Anna was already asleep in her little bed. Amelia placed her phone on the dressing table and walked over to Anna's bed, gently touching her forehead. She couldn't help but think of Anna's joyful expression when interacting with Frederick that afternoon.
Amelia's face showed a hint of melancholy. Realizing her mood was becoming negative, she quickly adjusted and went to the bathroom to wash up. On the dressing table, the phone screen lit up and dimmed repeatedly.
Frederick lay in bed, unable to sleep all night. He couldn't tell if it was the pain from his injury or the lack of a message from Amelia that kept him awake.
