Chapter 197 Guiding Her Hand Down
Amelia noticed what everyone was thinking.
She knew that if Frederick seemed angry today, Todd would likely cancel going to the bar to avoid offending Frederick.
People in the entertainment industry were smart.
Amelia had a hard time organizing this party today and had informed Jesse that they were coming.
Moreover, Todd's schedule was quite busy, so if he didn't go now, she might not have another chance to take him there.
Amelia was not very good at handling those kinds of situations.
When no one responded, she immediately looked at Frederick and spoke up. "Nicole is right. Let's go."
Frederick stared deeply into her eyes, as if he was probing the sincerity behind her words. Amelia pursed her lips and calmly met his gaze.
After a few seconds, Frederick withdrew his gaze and said in a low voice, "Let's go."
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief at his statement.
Outside the hotel, Amelia got into Frederick's car.
Nicole got into Todd's car. She no longer dared to ride in the same car as Frederick.
As Todd watched Amelia walk beside Frederick, he couldn't help but quietly ask, "Nicole, what's going on between Amelia and Mr. Hastings?"
After making sure Frederick couldn't hear her, Nicole whispered very softly, "Frederick is Amelia's ex-husband."
Todd's mouth opened in surprise.
Fortunately, he had no interest in Amelia. Otherwise, his career might have come to an end.
Frederick walked to the car and opened the passenger door.
Amelia bent down to get in the car and said to Nicole, "I have sent you the address."
Nicole nodded. "Don't worry. I can find it."
Amelia softly said, "Okay."
Frederick closed the door after her.
Once he was in the driver's seat, he noticed that Amelia hadn't fastened her seatbelt, so he leaned over and fastened it for her.
That action lasted only a few seconds. But when he leaned in close, Amelia's heart skipped a beat and accelerated.
Frederick started the car and casually asked, "It seems like you really like Jesse."
Amelia didn't enjoy business dinners, so when many people mentioned the young lady of the Davis Manor, they only remembered Rachel.
Now, she had taken the initiative to set up this situation to help Jesse with his business.
Amelia realized that Frederick had gotten the wrong idea about her relationship with Jesse. She instinctively wanted to explain.
She was about to speak when her phone rang. Amelia glanced at it; it was Jesse.
She answered, "Hello, Jesse."
When Frederick heard her gentle voice, his hand tightened on the steering wheel, and his face instantly turned sullen.
Amelia said, "We're on our way. Help us arrange everything. Todd, his friends, and my colleagues will be there. Security must be tight. People might post about it on Facebook, and many of Todd's fans will show up."
Frederick saw that Amelia mentioned Todd and his friends, as well as Nicole, but not him, which made his calm expression turn cold again.
Amelia spoke with Jesse for a while before ending the call.
Todd had many fans. If security wasn't handled properly, something might happen later in the evening.
Amelia just wanted to help Jesse with his business and avoid any mishaps.
Before she finished her conversation with Jesse, Frederick's phone vibrated.
Frederick's eyes grew colder when he saw that it was Amber. A hint of annoyanceP1 appeared in his eyes.
He glanced at Amelia, who was still on the phone with Jesse. With a cold expression, he answered the call and put it on speaker, exuding a sense of resentment.
"Frederick, help me. I'm being..." Before Frederick could say anything, Amber's voice came through, pleading for help, and then the call disconnected.
Amelia paused.
Jesse also heard the commotion on Amelia's end. He asked, "Amelia, what happened?"
At that moment, Amelia's mind was filled with Amber's voice, and she didn't hear Jesse's question.
Frederick furrowed his brow and immediately picked up his phone.
Paul was calling. He said, "Mr. Hastings, Mark Jackson called and said he kidnapped Ms. Roberts. He wants you to come over. If you don't, he'll jump off a building with her."
Frederick's gaze turned sullen as he said, "I'm on my way."
Mark used to be the head of the private bank under the Hastings Group.
Frederick had discovered that he had been using his position for personal gain and was also embezzling funds, which had led to his dismissal.
Mark had been a long-time employee of Frederick's father at the Hastings Group.
Frederick hadn't sued him out of respect for their history.
He never expected Mark to resort to such drastic measures.
Frederick knew he had to handle the situation since Amber had been involved. She was innocent.
"I'm on my way." After saying that, he ended the call.
Amelia also put her phone down calmly and said, "Just drop me off here. I'll take a cab."
As soon as she finished speaking, Frederick pulled over to the side of the road. Amelia got out of the car, and as soon as she closed the door, Frederick stepped on the gas and drove off.
Amelia's emotions were slightly complicated as she watched the car disappear.
It seemed that Frederick still cared about Amber. After all, she was his first lover.
Amelia waited by the side of the road for a few minutes before hailing a cab to the bar.
Todd was a public figure, and he couldn't linger at the bar entrance for too long to avoid causing a scene, so Jesse took a few people inside to settle down.
Nicole waited for Amelia at the entrance.
When Amelia got out of the taxi, Nicole approached her and asked, "Where's Frederick?"
Amelia quietly replied, "He went to rescue Amber."
Her tone was calm as she walked toward the elevator inside the bar.
Nicole paused for a moment and muttered, "Amber’s in trouble right now?"
Amelia didn't respond.
Nicole followed her into the elevator, reaching out to hold Amelia's hand. "It's good that Frederick left. Otherwise, those handsome guys wouldn't have been able to relax."
Frederick's presence was very intimidating. During dinner, he had already scared off Todd and the others.
Nicole had seen that and felt sorry for them.
Amelia looked at Nicole's lustful expression and smiled. She said, "You should hold back a bit. You’re drooling."
With Frederick gone, Todd and the others were having a great time.
As Amelia had anticipated, many people posted on Facebook after Todd showed up.
By midnight, the bar was packed. Many people were requesting performances from Jesse, keeping him busy.
After a few drinks, Amelia's cheeks were slightly flushed.
Nicole had a better tolerance for alcohol and drank more then. She even had Jesse bring the bar's resident dancer to their table for a performance. In her alcohol-induced state, Nicole's true nature emerged as she boldly reached out to touch the dancer's muscles, moving upward.
She didn't forget about her best friend. She took Amelia's hand and placed it on the dancer's chest muscles.
As Amelia was about to retract her hand, the dancer grabbed her wrist and guided her hand down. His actions were provocative, and his eyes were full of temptation as he looked at Amelia.
Amelia didn’t have any ulterior motives, so she withdrew her hand. Her first thought was that the touch was okay, but it didn't compare to how good it felt to touch Frederick. She preferred the feel of Frederick's muscles.
Scott stood in the top VIP room, took out his phone, recorded the scene, and sent it to the six friends' group chat.
