Chapter 217 Why Did She Close the Door While Seeing Him Coming?
Amber had long been accustomed to Frederick's indifference.
But at this moment, she still felt a bit embarrassed.
She watched Frederick's departing figure with a heavy gaze, unable to help but grit her teeth.
The only consolation was that Amelia hadn't seen it.
Taking a deep breath, she composed herself and went alone to the hotel restaurant for dinner.
Tideport City Hospital.
With the cooperation of the treatment team, Maria's condition hadn't worsened, but her situation was still not optimistic.
Amber posted a video seeking financial aid for Maria, which garnered some attention, and Maria's condition became a topic of concern among many netizens.
This put some pressure on the treatment team.
However, due to the increased attention, Maria's family's financial situation improved.
Amelia and Kimberly returned to the hotel very late every day. Even on the way back, most of their conversations revolved around Maria.
Also, Amelia and Amber rarely crossed paths.
After several days of intense work, mostly by elderly professors in the treatment team, they finally got a day off after Maria's condition stabilized somewhat.
After washing up in the bathroom, Amelia found that the hairdryer in her room was broken.
She had to call the front desk and request a new hairdryer.
She had just put down the phone when there was a knock at the door.
Amelia walked over to open the door and thank the receptionist, but she saw Rachel standing at her door in a black slip dress.
"Rachel? What are you doing here?" Amelia asked, pleasantly surprised.
Rachel stepped into the room, glanced at the modest accommodations, and then looked at Amelia, asking, "Are you out-of-pocket money?"
Amelia immediately understood that Rachel was looking down on the simplicity of her room.
After all, Vincent and Rachel had always given her the best since she was a child.
Amelia explained, "Of course, I still have money. This is a business trip, not home. All the doctors get the same treatment. I can't break the rules. Besides, the senior doctors all stay in similar rooms. As a junior, I can't ask for special treatment."
Rachel's eyes turned sullen a bit, but she said nothing.
From what she knew, Frederick was also staying at this hotel.
He hadn't instructed the front desk to upgrade Amelia's room to a suite.
When she arrived in the afternoon, she even saw Amber in the suite on the seventeenth floor, right next to hers.
Seeing Rachel's displeased expression, Amelia quickly took her arm and changed the subject. "Rachel, don't worry about these details. You haven't told me why you're in Tideport City."
Rachel's previously cold eyes softened as she looked at Amelia with a hint of affection. She replied, "I'm here for a wedding. Silas is getting married tomorrow. Their family has business dealings with the Davis Group, so I'm attending the wedding. Come with me tomorrow."
For people like them, weddings were like obligatory social events.
Amelia wasn't very keen on attending. Her eyes showed some hesitation.
Rachel noticed her reluctance and said calmly, "The Davis Group isn't just mine. If I ever fall..."
Seeing Rachel use this argument again, Amelia quickly nodded in agreement and said, "Alright. I'll go with you. Just don't say things like that. You won't fall, ever."
Rachel, satisfied with Amelia's agreement, said no more.
She had just finished her business before flying from Kasfee to Tideport City, so she was already tired. She said to Amelia, "I've booked a suite upstairs with an extra bedroom. Come up and rest with me."
As she finished speaking, Sebastian emerged from the elevator, clearly there to see Rachel.
"Won't it be inconvenient for you and Sebastian if I go up?" Amelia lowered her voice and said softly, "Besides, I don't want to be forced to listen to you two."
Rachel's usually cold and delicate face blushed at Amelia's teasing.
Sebastian had indeed been quite indulgent lately.
Amelia smirked and, without waiting for Rachel's reaction, pushed her out of the room.
"Hurry up and go upstairs with Sebastian. I've finally gotten used to this bed; if I change now, I'll probably have trouble sleeping again."
With that, she closed the door.
Rachel knew Amelia's habit of being particular about beds, so she didn't insist.
Sebastian approached Rachel, but before he could get close, Amelia had already shut the door.
He immediately assumed Amelia didn't want to see him, asking, "What's wrong with Amelia?"
Did he offend her somehow?
Rachel hadn't planned to bring Sebastian to Tideport City, but he had found out and followed her anyway.
Having been teased by Amelia because of Sebastian, Rachel naturally blamed him.
She glanced at him and said slowly, "Maybe she doesn't want to see you."
Sebastian felt like he was in big trouble.
He knew how close Rachel and Amelia were.
If he had offended Amelia, just one word from her could make Rachel refuse to marry him.
Sebastian quickly reviewed his recent actions, trying to figure out if he had done anything to upset Amelia.
But he couldn't think of anything.
Rachel gave him a cold look and walked towards the elevator.
This sight threw Sebastian into even more panic. Suddenly, he recalled encountering Amber in the elevator when they first arrived at the hotel.
The only person Amelia could be upset about was Amber.
He hadn't expected Amber to be in Tideport City.
Sebastian explained nervously, "Rachel, you have to explain to Amelia that it wasn't me who told Amber about Frederick being in Tideport City. It must have been Scott! Only he has a loose tongue, and he's the only one still in touch with Amber."
Rachel gave him a cold look and asked, "And how did Scott know Frederick was in Tideport City?"
Sebastian paused, his expression shifting as a memory dawned on him. He looked down, feeling guilty and stayed silent.
Rachel's gaze turned icy as she looked at him. She asked coldly, "So it was you?"
Sebastian realized he had been tricked by Rachel.
His expression stiffened, and he immediately admitted his mistake, pleading for forgiveness.
When Frederick stepped out of the elevator, he saw Sebastian speaking humbly to Rachel.
Sebastian was completely under Rachel's control.
As Frederick passed by them, he glanced at Sebastian with slight disdain.
"Pathetic," he said lightly, then walked towards Amelia's room.
Rachel called out to him. "If I remember correctly, Mr. Hastings, your suite isn't on this floor, is it?"
Frederick lifted the dessert box in his hand slightly, not answering Rachel's question.
He had attended a banquet today, where the desserts were excellent; they were said to be made by a renowned international pastry chef, so he had brought some back for Amelia.
He remembered that when he and Amelia first got married, she loved desserts.
