Chapter 121 Gossip
Rue glanced at Frederick and noticed that his gaze didn't directly go toward Amelia, indicating that he was trying to disguise his true intentions. Understanding everything, she smiled subtly.
"Frederick, do you need me to help you find another dance partner?" she asked.
Frederick didn't respond to her words, maintaining a cold expression.
Rue's face displayed a cunning smile. " I have one condition," she said softly.
"Go ahead," Frederick replied calmly, his tone indifferent.
Rue smiled slightly and spoke in a hushed voice. "Lately, my father's illegitimate son has been causing a lot of trouble. I'm worried that his actions might affect my position as the heir. So, could you help me deal with him?"
Frederick was an elite in the business world, and he had many ways to suppress an illegitimate child. However, Rue didn't know if he would help her just to dance with Amelia.
Rue stared at Frederick with hopeful eyes.
Frederick remained expressionless but agreed in a nonchalant manner.
Immediately, Rue's smile grew wider.
In the middle of the dance, Rue maneuvered herself and Frederick toward Quentin and Amelia. As Amelia spun around, Rue intentionally let go of Frederick's hand and bumped into Amelia.
Quentin had intended to pull Amelia toward him, but Rue quickly grabbed his hand, and in a matter of seconds, the person he was holding had transformed into Rue.
Frederick hadn't anticipated Rue's move to collide with Amelia. His expression turned stern, and he reached out to catch Amelia as she stumbled, pulling her into his embrace.
Amelia was dazed by the sudden turn of events. She knew that Rue had ill intentions when she approached them, but she didn't expect Rue to try to steal her dance partner.
She watched as Rue continued dancing with Quentin, gradually distancing themselves from them. Amelia couldn't quite comprehend the situation.
As she was lost in confusion, Frederick naturally held her hand and continued to dance. Amelia had no choice but to follow his lead.
She looked up at him, observing his cool demeanor, devoid of any emotional changes.
"Did you arrange this?" Amelia asked calmly, raising her eyes to meet his gaze.
This time, Frederick didn't deny it; instead, he nodded in affirmation.
Amelia's initially calm heart was affected by his response, and she felt a faint stir of emotions.
"Why?" she softly asked, trying to conceal the anticipation in her heart.
Frederick silently looked at her, tightening his hold on her waist slightly.
Her waist was still so soft, just like three years ago, and there was no trace of having given birth to a child.
"I simply wanted to dance with you," he replied calmly, devoid of any emotions in his tone.
Amelia stared at him, smiling. "Then why didn't you invite me to dance the first dance?"
Frederick remained composed. "Because you would refuse."
Amelia fell silent for a few seconds. Indeed, she would refuse. Ever since that day she ran into Frederick and Rue at the boutique, she had secretly made up her mind to keep her distance from him in the future.
Amelia didn't ask any more questions and followed Frederick's lead as they danced.
Seeing that she suddenly had no more questions, Frederick lowered his head to look at her. "Is there anything else you want to ask?"
Amelia shook her head. "No."
Amelia's gaze quietly looked in another direction as she danced with Frederick.
After the dance, Amelia withdrew her hand from Frederick's and smiled lightly, appearing calm and composed.
"Mr. Hastings, your fiancée is still waiting for you, so I will take my leave."
Rue did not leave before finishing the dance with Quentin.
Amelia didn't understand why Frederick's fiancée would try to matchmake her with Frederick, but she felt uncomfortable with this behavior. She didn't like the feeling of being manipulated.
Frederick quietly watched Amelia walk away from him to return to Rachel and the others.
Rachel was obviously setting up Amelia for a blind date. Quentin had liked Amelia three years ago. But by then, Frederick and Amelia's relationship had already been made public, so Quentin suppressed his feelings.
Now, Frederick and Amelia had divorced, and it had been announced publicly, so it was natural for Amelia's suitors to seize this opportunity.
Frederick sighed.
The Davis family apparently didn't want to hide the fact that Amelia had a child, but based on today's situation, despite Amelia having a child, Quentin's intention to marry her still existed.
Frederick slightly tightened his grip on the hand he had held Amelia's with, and he could even feel her warmth.
Frederick watched her walk to Quentin's side, smiling and greeting him, and felt a pang in his heart.
When he had just married Amelia, she would smile at him like that too. But now, even though she still smiled at him, it was obvious that she didn't care about him anymore.
Frederick took a deep breath, wanting to rush over and embrace her, wanting to truly feel her warmth. He wanted her to know that he could accept everything, just like Quentin did, accept the fact that she had a child.
This crazy idea suddenly came to his mind. Frederick was suddenly startled, and his expression turned cold.
The music had already started playing, but no one dared to enter the center of the dance floor.
Because Frederick was still standing alone in the dance floor, staring intently in the direction of Amelia and Quentin, his gaze particularly deep.
The crowd began to speculate and discuss.
They believed that Frederick couldn't accept seeing Amelia with Quentin.
But Frederick and Amelia were already divorced, and Amelia had been abroad for three years. Why was Frederick still possessive of her?
Could it be that Frederick had been waiting for Amelia for these past three years?
Amelia did not wait for Frederick. She had a child.
This fact shocked everyone present.
The crowd couldn't help but look sympathetically at Frederick's companion, Rue. After all, Rue was the only companion Frederick had brought out in these three years.
Moreover, there were frequent rumors from the Jelena family about Rue and Frederick's engagement, so everyone assumed that Rue was already Frederick's fiancée.
Rue sat on the couch, supporting her chin with one hand, looking at Frederick like everyone else.
When she saw the others' gazes shifting toward her, Rue's expression paused.
She thought, 'What's going on? Why are they all looking at me with sympathy?'
Rue realized that she had attended the banquet as Frederick's fiancée, and now she felt embarrassed.
She immediately reached out and pushed Felix, who was standing nearby.
"Go and bring Mr. Hastings over, everyone is gossiping about him."
