Chapter 65 She Had Truly Let Go
A flicker of confusion passed through Amelia’s eyes as she followed Frederick's gaze to see Daniel opening the car door and getting out.
She paused for a moment.
Frederick felt a suffocating pressure in his heart. Seeing that she had no reaction, he snorted lightly, his face dark and gloomy, and left in big strides.
"Mr. Hastings." Daniel saw Frederick and Amelia walk out of the court and greeted him with a calm expression.
However, Frederick only gave him a cold glance without any response and got into the car.
Soon, his car left the court.
Amelia saw Frederick's car make a left turn and disappear from her sight.
Daniel walked to the entrance of the court and looked at Amelia with a gentle smile.
"Congratulations on regaining your freedom."
Amelia smiled lightly and asked,
"Are you here for some business at the court?"
Today, apart from her own family, no one else knew that she and Frederick got the divorce certificate.
She and Frederick were originally in a hidden marriage, and now that they are divorcing, they certainly won't make a big fuss.
Daniel nodded, "Yes, the Vanderbilt family established some foundations in the early years, and some information is missing. We need to provide some evidence."
"Did you drive? If you didn't, I can submit the documents and then take you back."
Amelia politely replied, "I drove here myself. I need to make a trip to the hospital."
"You go ahead. I'll leave first."
She smiled slightly and walked out of the court.
After Amelia got into the car and left, Daniel's gaze lingered on her, becoming more affectionate.
Amelia had completely handed over her work at the hospital, and today, she was saying goodbye to her colleagues.
She prepared some small gifts to give to her department colleagues. After all, they had worked together for three years, and now that she was leaving, Amelia felt a bit reluctant.
General Hospital.
Amelia parked her car in the hospital's garage and saw Nicole walking toward her.
Just as she was getting her things out of the car, Nicole took them directly from her.
"You shouldn't lift heavy things during early pregnancy. Let me help you."
"Did you receive the divorce certificate?"
Amelia nodded, "Yes."
Nicole looked at her calm face and sighed, "Mr. Hastings went to the court with you personally?"
Amelia nodded again.
Nicole clicked her tongue.
"When you applied for the marriage license, it was his attorney who went on his behalf, but now that you're getting a divorce, he personally took action. What does he mean?"
Amelia also didn't understand him.
After three years of marriage, she didn't know much about Frederick.
"It doesn't matter what he means to me anymore."
Their marriage had ended, and meeting again would just be two familiar strangers without any connection.
Nicole agreed with a nod.
While they were talking, they walked toward the elevator.
Nicole shared some interesting stories from the department during this period, and Amelia couldn't help but smile.
When she smiled, her eyes and brows curved, making her even more beautiful.
From afar, Frederick could see her enchanting smile.
He sighed heavily, feeling a sense of suffocation in his heart once again.
The elevator doors opened.
Nicole and Amelia entered the elevator, laughing and talking.
Just as they turned around, they saw Frederick walking calmly toward them.
His face was cold, and he exuded a strong sense of unwelcomeness.
Amelia saw him and naturally moved aside, holding Nicole's hand.
However, Frederick did not enter the elevator.
The elevator doors closed.
Amelia looked up, and her gaze collided with his deep, dark eyes through the gap in the doors.
Her heart was in turmoil.
After three years of marriage, they had truly become strangers.
Nicole glanced cautiously at Amelia and noticed a hint of disappointment in her eyes, knowing that she still had feelings for him.
After all, how could one forget someone they had loved for so many years?
Amelia sensed Nicole's gaze and composed herself.
"I'm fine," she said.
Nicole nodded.
When the elevator reached their office floor, Amelia gave gifts to her colleagues, including every coworker.
Even the hospitalized patients received gifts.
Upon receiving the gifts, everyone's faces lit up with smiles.
As Frederick stepped out of the elevator, he saw Amelia giving gifts to the patients who surrounded her, expressing their reluctance to see her go.
He watched her smiling face with a heavy gaze, wondering if she was so eager to celebrate her newfound singleness.
Mrs. Lakoff also received a gift from Amelia, placing it on the side counter of the hospital bed. She then noticed Frederick walking in.
"Frederick, isn't the company busy these days?" Mrs. Lakoff couldn't help but feel somewhat puzzled by his frequent visits.
It had become a habit of hers. She had previously stayed at another hospital for a period of time, but Frederick had not visited her as frequently as he did now, almost coming every day.
Frederick looked at the gift box on the counter and remained silent for a few seconds.
Mrs. Lakoff smiled when she saw him staring at the box. "This is a gift from Ms. Davis for everyone. She has left the hospital and will be going to Fondaniss for further training soon, so she prepared gifts for her colleagues and patients in the department."
"Didn't you receive one?" Mrs. Lakoff asked with a smile.
Frederick paused for a moment and shook his head, "No."
Should he have received it? He wasn't a patient here or a doctor here.
Upon hearing this, Mrs. Lakoff's eyes showed a hint of regret. "It seems she has really moved on."
The enthusiasm that Amelia had for Frederick in the past made Mrs. Lakoff think that she couldn't live without him in this lifetime.
Since Frederick had no interest in Amelia, it was great that she could let go of this fate.
Frederick frowned, his face stern.
Seeing that he was preoccupied, Mrs. Lakoff gestured toward a nearby chair, "Sit down, why do you look so troubled?"
Frederick gathered his thoughts and smiled slightly. "No reason."
Mrs. Lakoff quietly looked at him for a moment, "Your personality is just like your mother's. You can't fool me."
"I heard that you and your wife are planning to divorce during this time."
"Speaking of which, I haven't met your wife yet."
"Bring her over sometime, let me meet her."
Frederick lowered his gaze, "You have met her."
Mrs. Lakoff raised an eyebrow, looking puzzled. "When?"
Just as Frederick was about to answer, there was a knock on the door of the ward. Amber pushed the door open and walked in, holding a small gift box in her hand, the style of which was exactly the same as the one on the counter in front of Mrs. Lakoff.
"I wonder what Ms. Davis has to celebrate today. She's giving out gifts to everyone. I almost thought she was getting married." Amber smiled, casually mentioning it, but her gaze couldn't help but look at Frederick.
Sure enough, Frederick's face immediately turned cold, and he stood up expressionlessly from his seat. "Mrs. Lakoff, I will go to the company first."
During this time, Mrs. Lakoff had clearly noticed that Frederick was avoiding Amber, so she nodded. "Alright."
"Company matters are important."
Frederick nodded, "I will come to see you another day."
Seeing that he was about to leave, Amber bit her lip.
He wanted to avoid her as soon as she entered the room. His intentions were obvious.
