Chapter 276 I Can't Lose That Child

With a loud noise erupted from outside, Vincent shot up from his seat, his face serious.

Amelia quickly set down her milk, looking tense, and got up.

Susan came back in, and Amelia immediately asked, "What happened out there, Susan?"

Susan sighed, "Mr. Kingsley wanted to talk to Ms. Davis, so he parked his car at the entrance, blocking her way. So she drove the armored SUV and rammed his car out of the way."

Amelia frowned, "Is everyone okay?"

Susan shook her head, "No one's hurt. Security held back Mr. Kingsley, and Ms. Davis drove off after ramming his car."

Amelia sighed in relief, "As long as no one's hurt."

Vincent walked out of the restaurant, looking troubled. "I'm going to talk to Sebastian," he said.

"I'll go with you," Amelia offered.

Vincent stopped her, "Stay with Anna. I need to handle this alone."

He then walked out of the living room.

Anna came out, hugging Amelia's leg. "Mommy, what's going on?" she asked, looking up.

"Nothing," Amelia said softly, picking her up.

About ten minutes later, Vincent returned. No one knew what he said to Sebastian, but Sebastian drove away from the manor.

On her way to work, Amelia called Rachel. When Rachel picked up, Amelia spoke softly, "You’re too impulsive. You’re still injured, aren’t you?"

Rachel replied calmly, "I had to do it so no one would bother me."

She was swamped every day. Today it was Sebastian, tomorrow it would be Helen, and the day after, Clara. She'd be driven crazy by them.

At least after today, Helen and Clara wouldn’t dare to mess with her.

"I’ll talk to you later," Rachel said, glancing coldly at Shirley, who kept passing by her office door, and hung up.

As soon as she put her phone away, Shirley knocked on her door.

"Ms. Davis," Shirley said timidly.

Rachel looked up, her voice cold, "What is it?"

Shirley cautiously approached with a breakfast box, looking tense and worried. "I'm really sorry about the car accident yesterday. To apologize, I made this nutritious porridge for you."

Rachel glanced at the pink insulated lunch box. Shirley's hand had burn marks, showing she really made it herself.

"Put it aside," Rachel said coldly, then went back to her documents.

Shirley smiled, quickly placing the lunch box down. As she left, she reminded Rachel, "Ms. Davis, remember to drink it while it’s hot."

Rachel didn’t respond, not even looking up.

Shirley felt Rachel was particularly cold today and felt a bit disappointed. But given the big mistake she made, Rachel's reaction was understandable.

Not long after Shirley returned to her workstation, Tina came over with her lunch box and placed it on her desk.

Tina snapped, "Ms. Davis values competence. If you're good at your job, you'll get a permanent spot. Shirley, stop with the little tricks. Ms. Davis isn't buying it."

Shirley wanted to explain, but Tina had walked away.

The other interns, hired at the same time as her, looked at her with mocking and disdainful eyes.

Shirley's face turned pale. She realized Rachel was suppressing her. Her internship was going to be tough.

She looked at the lunch box in front of her, feeling like she might cry.

At General Hospital, Amelia had just put on her white coat and was heading to her office when she saw a crowd gathered in the hallway outside Maria's room.

She frowned and walked over.

Inside the room, Rodolfo's angry voice could be heard, along with Amber's attempts to calm him down.

Rodolfo had lost all reason and was demanding money from Sandra, regardless of the presence of others.

"I know you have at least a few hundred thousand dollars in your account. I need 100 thousand dollars. If you give me 100 thousand dollars, I'll divorce you immediately," he shouted.

Sandra's voice was tearful and on the verge of breaking down. "Kind people donated that money for Maria's treatment! It's Maria's life-saving money, and you want to take it? Do you have any conscience?"

Enraged, Rodolfo grabbed Sandra. He sneered, "Don't think I don't know. Dr. Davis applied for a disease subsidy for Maria. The hospital will waive all of Maria's future treatment costs!"

Sandra looked at her once honest and simple husband, now filled with disappointment. "Is it that mistress who told you to ask me for money? Did she threaten you with her unborn child? She doesn't want to stay with you because you have no money? Forget it; I won't give you a penny, and I'll demand back all the money you spent on her during our marriage!"

Rodolfo gritted his teeth and started searching the room for a bank card. "Where's the bank card? Hand it over now."

He turned Maria's room upside down but couldn't find Sandra's bag or the bank card. He even knelt in front of Sandra.

"We've been married for so many years, and I've always treated you well. I beg you to have mercy on me and let me go. Aria Bishop had a check-up, and it's a boy. If I don't get the money, she'll abort the child. Maria is already sick, and this illness can't be cured. I can't lose that child. I need him to support me when I'm old."

Maria had never seen her father like this and was scared to tears by his actions.

Rodolfo even kowtowed to Maria. "Maria, just think of it as my fault. Ask your mom to give me the money. I really can't lose that child."

Sandra was trembling with anger, holding Maria tightly in her arms. She never imagined the man in front of her could be so shameless.

Amber stood beside Rodolfo, feeling embarrassed. When he reached out, expressing his desire to visit Kasfee, she swiftly arranged a ticket for him. Aware of the brewing tensions between Rodolfo and Amelia, Amber anticipated his presence would stir up trouble.

However, what she hadn't foreseen was Rodolfo's unexpected plea to Sandra for money. Observing his pitiful state, it became evident to Amber that he posed no threat to Amelia now.

A mix of frustration and humiliation enveloped Amber, her emotions running high in the face of this unexpected turn of events.
