Chapter 405 Disobedient Pets Should Be Taught a Lesson
In the video, Dylan spoke while looking provocatively at Line.
Line stood quietly next to Ken. Because of the censor mosaic, her expression was unclear, but the feeling conveyed through her body language was tense.
Amelia tightened her grip on the phone involuntarily.
The video lasted about ten minutes.
Throughout the video, Dylan kept asking Ken to tell Line about their relationship.
Ken remained silent, but Line seemed to have guessed what was going on. She covered her mouth in feigned surprise and turned to Dylan. "Don't you know that we're already married?"
Dylan's frown deepened, his eyes brimming with hostility. "I know, but Ken doesn't love you. He loves me. You two will get a divorce sooner or later."
Ken immediately placed a hand on Dylan's arm, signaling him to stop.
Line's demeanor shifted to one of exaggerated sadness. She looked at Ken seriously and said, "I think I need some time to process this. You two are so awful."
Although Line's expression couldn't be seen in the video, it was clear she was putting on quite a show.
The last time they met at the hotel, Amelia knew Line was not someone to be messed with. Line was just pretending not to know Dylan's identity in front of Ken.
Moreover, this video was probably recorded intentionally and posted online. Besides Line, Amelia couldn't think of anyone else who would do that. After all, in the video, both Line and Ken had their faces obscured, but Dylan's was not.
They spoke fluent Fondanissian, but the video had subtitles translating their conversation.
In this internet age, such news would definitely be widely shared by the media.
Amelia couldn't help but worry about Dylan's mental state. After closing the video, she immediately called Dylan.
Dylan saw Amelia's name on the caller ID and answered. "Amelia, what's up?"
Dylan had cried earlier in his room, but when Amelia called, he took a deep breath, steeling himself. He was determined to sound composed and lower his voice to hide the tremor of his emotions.
After all, he remembered how Amelia had warned him about Ken when he first arrived in Kasfee. Dylan hadn't heeded her warnings and insisted on following his heart, and now here he was, left in the wake of Ken's departure, feeling raw and abandoned.
Amelia listened to Dylan's seemingly calm voice, her brows knitting together with concern. She resisted the urge to dive right in, gently beginning with, "Have you guys set off yet?"
Dylan hesitated for a few seconds, then softly answered. "Yes, we have set off. I'm in the car now, about to board the plane."
He tried to inject some nonchalance into his tone, not wanting his heartbreak to become a spectacle—even to Amelia, his closest friend. He preferred to maintain the illusion, at least for now.
Amelia heard he was about to board the plane and seemed unaware of the video. So, she remained silent for a few seconds and ultimately didn't tell Dylan about it.
"Alright, safe travels. Call me when you get to Fondaniss," Amelia said.
She assumed that once Dylan was in Fondaniss, the news in Kasfee wouldn't reach him. She hoped to spare him at least some of the turmoil.
Dylan responded with a noncommittal hum, his voice barely a whisper.
Amelia was about to say more when her colleagues from the treatment team came to find her, so she quickly ended the call with Dylan and went to their temporary office for a meeting.
Dylan had intended to tell Amelia that he hadn't boarded the plane and that Ken and Line had left Kasfee without him.
However, before he could say anything, he heard someone calling for Amelia.
After Amelia hung up, he fell silent. Soon, his phone started buzzing with messages.
Dylan glanced at his phone and saw many friend requests from strangers on his social media.
He frowned, noticing that many of their avatars were shirtless, muscular selfies.
A hint of confusion flashed in his eyes, and then an old classmate he hadn't contacted in years sent him a video.
Old classmate: [Dylan, is that you in this video?]
Dylan clicked on the link, his face turning pale. It was a conversation from the day he and Ken went out to eat and ran into Line.
Line had known about him from the beginning and had even called to threaten him to leave Ken.
He hadn't expected her to play the innocent victim in front of Ken.
Seeing her act disgusted Dylan, so he mimicked Line's two-faced behavior, never imagining it would be recorded and shared online. Now, as he watched the damning video, his hands shook, fury and panic intertwining. Suddenly, it all clicked—Line had orchestrated this.
She had set him up perfectly, framing him as the cheater and inviting scorn from all sides. Then, as the ultimate betrayal, she left with Ken, abandoning Dylan to deal with the fallout alone.
Dylan took a deep breath and opened Twitter to find that the video about him was trending. He bit his lip tightly, got up, and walked out of the room.
Ken's assistant was standing outside, drinking coffee and chatting with other colleagues. Seeing Dylan come out, he asked calmly. "Mr. Kingsley, what's wrong?"
Dylan shoved the phone at him. "Get this video taken down. Stop it from spreading."
The assistant watched the video, his face impassive, as if he had already seen it. Nothing registered on his face—no surprise, no urgency.
"The video has Mr. Angoulême's face blurred out; no one will connect him to this. It won't affect him," the assistant said, looking up at Dylan with unsettling calm. "I haven't received any instructions from Mr. Angoulême, so all I can do is to ask that you just bear with it for now."
Dylan froze, disbelief washing over him. "Ken left you with me to help handle these troubles, didn't he? Aren't you afraid I'll report your negligence to Ken?"
The assistant smiled, a flicker of amusement in his eyes. "Do you know what Mr. Angoulême said when he left?" He paused, savoring the moment. "Mr. Angoulême said disobedient pets should be taught a lesson."
Dylan took two steps back, his body trembling. "He knows about this?"
The assistant shrugged, his smile never faltering. "Mr. Kingsley, didn’t you say that as long as you were with Mr. Angoulême, you were willing to endure any hardship?"
