Chapter 334 Is That How Poorly She Think of Him?
Susan noticed Frederick's eyes were red. Her face tightened as she watched him closely.
Amelia was about to speak when Frederick's low voice interrupted. "I will tell you next time we meet."
Anna, curious but obedient, nodded. "Okay."
Frederick let go of her hand.
Susan took a deep breath and left the Riverfront Estate sales office with Anna.
Rachel was waiting by the car. Seeing Susan rush over with Anna, she raised an eyebrow and asked calmly, "What happened?"
Susan whispered, "Mr. Hastings might have figured out who Ms. Anna Davis really is."
Rachel frowned and glanced toward Amelia and Frederick.
Frederick stood there, staring at Amelia.
Amelia looked away, feeling guilty. Both stayed silent.
Rachel smirked. Seeing Frederick so humbled in front of Amelia gave her a sense of satisfaction.
"So what if he knows? Thinking he can win Amelia back through Anna, it's not that simple," Rachel said, taking Anna from Susan and getting into the car.
Amelia stood quietly next to Frederick, watching the car drive away. Each moment felt endless as she wondered how to respond if Frederick asked about Anna. His certainty about Anna's identity chilled her.
Neither spoke. The silence between them was like a taut rope, neither willing to break it.
Felix entered through the side door and saw them standing in the hallway, silhouetted against the light. He was used to seeing Frederick's defenses crumble around Amelia, but now the tension was different. Frederick seemed to have the upper hand, even in silence.
Felix stood anxiously, wanting to ask when Frederick would return to the company but too afraid to speak.
Seeing Amelia wasn't going to speak first, Frederick stepped toward her and said, "Don't you have anything to say to me?"
Amelia shook her head gently. "No."
Frederick frowned. Seeing her avoid eye contact, his eyes showed a hint of anger. "Amelia! Look at me when you speak."
Amelia bit her lip and looked up at him.
His eyes were slightly red, and his deep blue eyes were tinged with anger.
Suppressing her racing heart, she said softly, "I have nothing to say."
Frederick's face darkened. He asked painfully, "About Anna, do you have nothing to say? She's my daughter, yet she calls me Uncle Frederick!"
Felix was shocked, looking at them in disbelief.
Amelia pressed her lips together and, facing Frederick's gloomy expression, stayed silent for a few seconds.
Maybe because she'd been tense earlier, now that everything was out in the open, Amelia felt a bit calmer.
"You were the one who told her to call you Uncle Frederick," she said, her voice steady, her clear eyes fixed on him.
Frederick felt like a knife had stabbed his heart. He suddenly remembered he had indeed told Anna to call him Uncle Frederick, thinking Amelia just didn't want any connection with him.
Frederick's hand clenched tightly at his side. "You never thought of telling me?" he asked hoarsely.
Amelia shook her head. "No, I didn't."
Frederick stared at her calm face, feeling a painful tightness in his chest. His throat dry and emotions high, he roared, "Amelia, I have the right to know about my child!"
His angry shout drew the attention of the staff around them, who couldn't help but look over.
Amelia paused, feeling the curious gazes, and advised softly, "Can we talk in the car?"
Seeing her cooperative attitude, Frederick gritted his teeth and spat out, "Fine."
Amelia walked outside, and Felix quickly followed, opening the car door for her. His mind was spinning. 'Anna is Frederick's daughter? Doesn't this mean Frederick can become connected to Amelia again through Anna? Isn't that something to be happy about?'
Amelia got into the car, and Frederick soon followed, closing the door and sitting beside her. She moved a bit further inside, worried he might lose control. She knew she couldn't resist him.
After ensuring a safe distance, she looked at Frederick and said softly, "Say what you want to say."
Seeing her calm demeanor, Frederick felt a mix of emotions. He was happy that Anna was his daughter, but frustrated that Amelia had no intention of letting him acknowledge Anna and had been misleading him all along.
He suddenly asked, "When did you conceive the child?"
Amelia hadn't expected that question and was silent for a few seconds before replying, "The day you accompanied Ms. Roberts for her check-up." Her voice was steady.
Frederick frowned tightly. He had forgotten the exact day but remembered clearly that he and Amelia hadn't divorced yet. "So, from the moment you got pregnant, you planned to hide it from me?" he questioned sadly.
Amelia looked out the window and said calmly, "During that time, Mr. Cole was constantly asking me to sign the divorce papers. Did you forget? In such a situation, how could I dare tell you?"
She paused, then said sharply, "Besides, Ms. Roberts wasn't in good health then. You had just reunited with her, and your feelings were strong. What if you coaxed me into giving birth to Anna and then took custody away to give her to Ms. Roberts?"
Amelia's words left Frederick speechless, feeling very anxious and troubled.
After a long pause, he finally spoke in an extremely hoarse voice, "Is that how poorly you think of me?"
