Chapter 307 They Talked Late into the Night
Amelia finished talking and looked calmly at Frederick.
Frederick loosened his grip on her hand, and Amelia pulled away, got out of the car, and opened the door for him.
Frederick stepped out, stood aside, and watched as Amelia got back in the car and drove off.
He stood there for a while before heading back to Spring Villa after her car disappeared.
Back at Spring Villa, he sat on the sofa, pinching the bridge of his nose, looking worried.
After a bit, he took out his phone, opened Vincent's contact, and sent a message.
Frederick: [Mr. Davis, can I still come to the Davis Manor for breakfast tomorrow?]
At the Davis Manor, Vincent was about to rest when he saw Frederick's message.
Seeing the question, he figured there might have been a conflict between Frederick and Amelia.
He didn't reply right away but waited in the living room for Amelia to return.
When Amelia got back and entered the living room, she saw her dad still on the sofa, deep in thought.
Usually, he'd be resting by now.
Amelia asked, "Dad, are you feeling okay?"
Vincent shook his head and said softly, "Frederick just asked if he could come for breakfast tomorrow. Did you two fight?"
Vincent watched Amelia's reaction.
Amelia paused, rubbing her forehead in frustration.
How had she not noticed Frederick was so cunning?
Not wanting to worry Vincent, Amelia smiled and said, "No, we didn't fight. We got along well today."
She made up an excuse, "He might just feel awkward about coming over so often lately."
Except for the Clara incident, she was in a good mood today.
She rarely played golf and didn't know a night-lit course could be so beautiful.
Vincent felt relieved hearing her.
He smiled, "As long as you didn't fight, I'm glad. Help me reply to him and tell him to come for breakfast tomorrow. I need to go to bed."
Vincent got up and headed to his bedroom.
Amelia raised an eyebrow, took out her phone, opened the chat with Frederick, and sent a message.
Amelia: [My dad says come for breakfast tomorrow.]
Just as she was about to put her phone away, Frederick sent a message.
She felt a vibration and checked, but he had already retracted it.
Amelia sighed, annoyed she didn't see what he sent.
She wondered if Frederick had a thing for retracting messages.
She had been patient, trying hard to control her curiosity.
Amelia quickly typed a message.
Amelia: [Mr. Hastings, please think before sending me a message next time. I'm a normal person, and I get curious.]
Frederick replied quickly.
Frederick: [Okay.]
Frederick: [There won't be a next time.]
After his reply, Amelia put away her phone and went upstairs to wash up.
She hadn't exercised so much in a while and felt sticky from sweating.
After her shower, Amelia checked her phone and saw several notifications, mostly from Frederick.
Frederick: [Are you home yet?]
Frederick: [Did I disturb Mr. Davis's rest just now?]
Frederick: [I noticed you ate less tonight and exercised. Are you hungry now?]
Frederick: [Should I bring you some food?]
Frederick: [Are you asleep?]
Amelia raised an eyebrow at the string of messages. Why did Frederick seem so different over text compared to in person? He could have been more talkative face-to-face.
Lying in bed, she glanced at Anna, who was already asleep, and replied to Frederick's messages one by one. Frederick responded to each of her replies.
Amelia yawned, realizing she had work the next day, and decided to wrap up the conversation.
Amelia: [I'm a bit sleepy.]
Frederick was typing a message about a topic they had discussed earlier when he saw her message. He knew she was interested in artificial intelligence from a conversation they had in Tideport City, so he had started talking about it, and she was very engaged.
He deleted his current message and retyped it.
Frederick: [You have work tomorrow. If you're sleepy, go to bed.]
Frederick: [Good night.]
After sending the message, Frederick didn't put his phone down but stared at it for a long time. Eventually, he received Amelia's reply.
Amelia: [Good night.]
He sent another message.
Frederick: [Good night.]
After replying, Amelia put her phone down. It was already late, and she would have been asleep by now.
Frederick waited for a long time but didn't get another message from Amelia. Feeling a bit sad, he put his phone aside and got up to go to the bathroom. After a few steps, he turned back to pick up his phone. What if Amelia sent another message?
The next morning, the first thing Frederick did was check his phone to see if Amelia had sent him a message. But the last message was still his "Good night."
On the way to the Davis Manor, Felix noticed Frederick checking his phone repeatedly, as if waiting for an important message.
Meanwhile, at the Davis Manor, the first thing Amelia did upon waking was check her phone. Seeing that Frederick had replied "Good night" after her message, she felt a bit conflicted. She hesitated for a few seconds, then couldn't resist messaging him.
Amelia: [Are you here yet? Breakfast is about to start.]
When Frederick received the message, Felix had already driven to the Davis Manor. He replied immediately.
Frederick: [I have arrived at the door.]
As Amelia received Frederick's message, she heard a car arriving at the Davis Manor. She quickly picked up Anna, who was already awake, and went to the bathroom.
When Frederick entered the Davis Manor, Amelia hadn't come downstairs yet. Vincent was sitting on the sofa watching the morning news. Seeing Frederick, he smiled and stood up.
"Amelia and Anna are probably still getting ready. It'll be a while before they come down. Have a seat," Vincent said.
Hearing this, Frederick felt a surge of happiness. Amelia must have messaged him the moment she woke up, right? It wasn't in vain that he had waited for her reply last night and lost sleep.
