Chapter 100 I Want to Book Your Future Life
Elizabeth and Michael teamed up to wrap a scarf around the snowman.
One scarf was red, the other green.
With the servants' help, they put up a short fence around their frosty friend.
They strung up some colorful lights on it.
Elizabeth grinned and asked Michael, "Does it look like a Christmas tree to you?"
Michael gazed at her, his eyes only for her.
Elizabeth took his hand and softly asked, "Michael, are you happy?"
Michael gently hugged her, his lips close to her ear. "Yes, I'm very happy."
In his heart, he thought, 'As long as I'm with you, everything is perfect.'
Soon, it was Christmas Eve, and the servants decked out the villa, making it all festive.
The living room had rows of neat little cabinets.
In the morning, Elizabeth woke up to find a sock at the head of the bed.
She opened it and found a key with a number tag. She looked at Michael, puzzled.
Michael told her, "Use the key to open the cabinet in the living room with the same number. That's my Christmas gift to you."
Elizabeth found the matching number and opened the cabinet.
Inside was a gift box with another key and number tag.
She set the box aside and used the new key to open the next cabinet.
Again, it was a gift box with a key and number tag.
Elizabeth kept going, opening 21 cabinets like this.
She sat in the living room, opening each gift box one by one.
Inside were exquisite Barbie dolls, beautiful dresses, limited edition handbags, elegant high heels, and a necklace of plump, round deep-sea pearls, and more.
Michael sat on the living room sofa, quietly watching her.
He had a constant smile on his face.
Elizabeth asked, "When did you secretly prepare all these gifts? I didn't even notice. Are you making up for every Christmas before we met?"
Michael said, "Of course."
He grinned, "I didn't get to be part of your life before you turned 22. But I want to be part of your future. I hope the rest of your life includes me."
Elizabeth's face suddenly turned pale, and she lowered her head to hide her emotions.
Michael came over and took her hand. They walked to the yard together.
It was still snowing outside.
Michael helped Elizabeth put on a coat.
Under the falling snowflakes, Michael said jauntily, "Elizabeth, Merry Christmas!"
Elizabeth turned to him and trilled, "Michael, Merry Christmas!"
Michael said, "Elizabeth, from now on, I'll get you a gift every Christmas."
He pulled out a small blue velvet box from his pocket. "This is my gift to you this year."
Michael opened the box.
Inside was a platinum diamond ring.
The ring was shaped like a snowflake, with sparkling diamonds embedded in it.
He knelt on one knee. "Elizabeth, when we got married, I had no say in it. You went through a lot. Now, I, Michael, am here to formally propose to you. Will you truly marry me?"
Elizabeth took a step back, tears streaming down her face.
Michael got a bit flustered. "I'm sorry, Elizabeth. Did I scare you? I didn't know you'd react like this. Was I too abrupt?"
Elizabeth, still crying, shook her head. "Michael, I know I'm not the woman you love the most. There's always been someone else in your heart. I'm sorry, but because I love you, I can't accept you saying you care about me while keeping another woman's photo. Even if it's just emotional betrayal, I can't forgive it. Michael, our relationship should end here. Let's pretend we never met. I'll leave the divorce to the lawyer. They'll contact you. We won't see each other again!"
Elizabeth covered her mouth, unable to control her tears, and ran towards the villa's entrance.
Michael stood under the eaves, watching her leave, motionless.
He didn't offer any explanation for Elizabeth's accusations.
Elizabeth thought, what if he chased after her? Would she regret her decision? Would she go back with him?
But when she reached the gate of the Thomas Villa, about to leave the house for good, she looked back at the villa that had brought her both pain and joy.
All she saw was a vast expanse of white snow, with no sign of Michael.
Elizabeth left the villa, got into a taxi, and headed straight to the airport.
Nancy had already vacated her rental.
She was now waiting at the airport entrance with her luggage and documents.
Elizabeth was about to leave this country.
The taxi drove along the road.
Elizabeth looked out the window through tear-filled eyes at the passing scenery. This was the place she had lived for 22 years. Now she was leaving.
Scenes of her time with Michael flashed through her mind.
Michael's face was so clear in Elizabeth's mind.
His angry look, his silent look, his pretending-to-be-indifferent-but-secretly-smiling look.
And the way he looked when he kissed her. The way he held her tightly and entered her body.
Elizabeth's tears never stopped.
Although Michael's presence in her life was brief, she would never forget him for the rest of her life.
Her emotions were so intense that she felt a slight cramp in her lower abdomen.
Her abdominal wall tightened. Her lower abdomen ached.
Elizabeth calmed herself. She gently touched her lower abdomen.
The babies must have sensed Elizabeth's emotions and were becoming anxious inside her.
Elizabeth gently stroked her belly, soothing the babies' emotions. "Babies, I'm sorry, my bad mood affected you."
She took out a tissue and wiped the tears from her face. "Babies, don't worry. I'm just reminiscing about the feelings I had. From now on, no one will make us suffer. I've left your father. I've also kept you away from danger. From now on, you're safe. Nancy and I will raise you safely and happily."
Not all children needed a father, especially when the father would kill his children.
Four years later.
In Evergreen City, at the Thomas Villa, Michael's phone buzzed.
He glanced at the screen.
It was Emily, the medical expert.
Michael picked up quickly.
For some reason, he felt a bit on edge. "Ms. Johnson?"
Emily's voice came through, weak and broken. "Michael, it's me... I can't hold on much longer. The task you gave me... I'm sorry, I might not finish it... but I've handed it over to my best student... you can contact her, her name is..."
