Chapter 532 Suspicion
Victor's assistant jogged alongside him, nervously saying, "No one thought Ms. Murphy would jump in front of Michael like that."
Victor stopped dead in his tracks, glaring. "What kind of idiots did you hire? Couldn't they wait until Cordelia wasn't around?"
The assistant knew Victor was livid and didn't dare argue.
Victor kept walking. "How's Cordelia doing?"
The assistant replied softly, "Ms. Murphy's shoulder blade is injured, and she's already passed out."
"Just wait until I deal with you all!"
By the time Victor reached the deck, Gerald had already arranged for a helicopter to take Cordelia and Michael to the hospital.
With such an incident, the guests had lost all interest in the party and just wanted to leave quickly.
Gerald arranged for the yacht to dock immediately.
The guests crowded at the yacht's exit, eager to disembark.
Victor appeared in front of Gerald, his face showing clear concern. "Dad, I heard Cordelia got hurt. How is she? Is it serious?"
Gerald didn't answer his question, instead glaring at him fiercely. "Follow me!"
Victor followed him. They returned to Gerald's room on the second floor.
As soon as the servant closed the door behind them, Gerald slapped Victor hard across the face.
"You idiot! You couldn't even protect Cordelia!"
Victor was knocked to the ground, his left cheek swelling instantly. He covered his face, his mouth trembling. "Dad, I was with you at the time. I couldn't protect Cordelia!"
Gerald stood with one hand on his hip, pointing a finger at him.
"You idiot! Why did you come back? Do you think I don't know about the mess you've made? As long as you don't go too far, I usually turn a blind eye. I've indulged you, and now you've become reckless!"
Victor knelt on the ground. "Dad, I know I'm not capable enough, but I've been trying to do my best! I've completed the tasks you gave me."
Gerald's eyes were filled with rage. "The task I gave you was to publicly assassinate your own sister?"
Victor shouted, "Dad! I'm innocent! You really wronged me! I love Cordelia so much; how could I ever hurt her?"
Gerald sat on the sofa, panting. "Of course, you didn't intend to kill her! You wanted to kill her husband, Michael, didn't you?"
Victor's eyes widened as he defended himself. "Dad! I absolutely didn't! I don't even know what Michael looks like! I have no grudge against him; why would I want to kill him? If I killed him, Cordelia would hate me forever!"
Gerald snorted, his face cold. "The yacht is full of my people. Do you think your little tricks can fool me? That's why I call you an idiot! You self-righteous fool!"
After shouting, Gerald kicked Victor hard in the chest.
"Don't think I don't know your plan! You think if you kill Michael, you can rightfully inherit all my assets? You fool! The Murphy family is in a transitional period. Instead of helping me deal with competitors, you want to eliminate my ally? What are you thinking?"
Victor knelt on the ground, clutching his chest. "Dad, whether you believe it or not, I didn't do it."
Gerald held his forehead, leaning back on the sofa. "Right! You didn't do it! You ordered someone to do it! What's the difference? I don't want to see you anymore! Go back to your room! When the yacht docks, get off and go back to your villa! Don't let me see you again!"
Victor, still unwilling to give up, said, "I want to see Cordelia."
Gerald grabbed the ashtray from the table and hurled it at him.
Victor dodged quickly.
Gerald shouted, "Get out!"
Victor had no choice but to stand up and leave the room.
His assistant was waiting outside, immediately offering a towel soaked in ice water. "Mr. Murphy."
Victor grabbed the towel and pressed it to his swollen cheek. "Let's go. Dad knows everything."
The assistant replied respectfully, "Yes, Mr. Murphy."
When Gerald arrived at the hospital, Cordelia was still in surgery. Michael was waiting in the hallway.
Seeing him, Gerald sighed. "Michael, my foolish daughter seems to have fallen for you. Since you agreed to marry her, you must treat her well."
Michael nodded. "Cordelia is my wife; of course, I'll treat her well."
He had noticed the gunman on the yacht and was seventy percent sure he could dodge the shot.
But he never expected Cordelia to rush over and take the bullet for him.
Could it be that Cordelia had truly fallen in love with him in such a short time?
Love was too mysterious; he wasn't sure he could reciprocate her feelings.
Gerald glanced sideways at Michael. "Michael, I don't expect you to love Cordelia passionately. I just ask that you don't betray her. Can you do that?"
Michael didn't respond.
Gerald continued, "You should know, the yacht is full of my spies, and every room is monitored. So, I know about your 'affair' with Elizabeth in the changing room."
Michael remained silent.
Gerald couldn't hold back. "Haven't you forgotten her? Besides, she's your enemy. How could you sleep with her? Aren't you afraid she'll hurt you again?"
Michael sneered. "I was just satisfying a physical need with a woman. Do you mind, Mr. Murphy?"
Gerald noticed the change in his address and chuckled. "Michael, I remember you used to avoid women. What's changed? Couldn't you control yourself? Or does Elizabeth still attract you?"
Michael's face showed no emotion. "Mr. Murphy, marrying Cordelia doesn't mean I'll only have her. Just like you, you've been married for years but probably have many women, right?"
Gerald laughed softly. "Right, a man shouldn't be bound by emotions. Women are just playthings. Michael, I don't care how you fool around outside, just don't let Cordelia get hurt."
Michael lowered his head appropriately. "Understood."
Gerald seemed satisfied with his compliance. He raised his hand and patted Michael's shoulder.
"You're covered in Cordelia's blood. It's uncomfortable wearing bloody clothes. Go change and come back. I'll stay with Cordelia."
Michael stood up. "Alright. I'll be back soon."
Gerald watched him enter the elevator, his expression turning cold. He instructed a bodyguard beside him, "Keep an eye on him."
The bodyguard nodded and left.
Gerald dialed Victor's number. "I have a task for you."
