Chapter 371 Afraid of Losing You

Octavia's hands shook as she held them up to her face. The pain was unbearable, and she wanted to touch her face but was too scared, so she just screamed.

Anthony rushed over and saw her once beautiful face now a horrifying mess.

Her face was blackened and pitted, with blood oozing out. The sight made his stomach churn, and he threw up the wine he had just drunk.

The waitstaff, initially stunned by the sudden chaos, finally snapped out of it. Someone shouted, "Catch that person!"

But there was no sign of the person in black anywhere in the restaurant.

A waiter approached, "Sir, are you okay? Should I call a doctor for you and the lady?"

Anthony, leaning on the table and gasping for air, grabbed a napkin to wipe his mouth. "Quick, call 911! She needs help!"

Octavia had already passed out from the pain.

The ambulance arrived quickly. Less than twenty-four hours after being discharged, Octavia was back in the emergency room.

At the hospital, Anthony accompanied Octavia back to the plastic surgery ward. The doctors began operating on her.

Anthony stood in the hallway, nervously calling Elizabeth.

"Elizabeth, you dodged a bullet..."

Elizabeth remained calm, "Anthony, I actually want to thank you. You still have a conscience."

Michael stood against the wall, his mind racing, his legs trembling uncontrollably.

"Elizabeth, I was scared out of my mind. You know, Octavia's face is beyond saving."

Elizabeth's voice changed, "She was splashed with acid?"

Michael swallowed hard, "It must have been something like that. I have no idea where Margaret finds these people."

Fear and dread rose in Elizabeth's heart. "She's truly lost her mind..."

She couldn't imagine it—if she hadn't contacted Anthony first and asked him to cooperate with her plan, then the one disfigured tonight would have been her, Elizabeth.

At Whispering Pines Estates, Elizabeth had just finished dinner with the kids. Sarah was there too.

Noticing Elizabeth's troubled expression as she took the call, Sarah quickly asked, "Elizabeth, what's wrong?"

Elizabeth's due date was approaching, and Sarah had been spending a lot of time with her.

Elizabeth, pale-faced, put down her phone and leaned on Sarah. "Let's talk in the room."

Sarah helped her upstairs.

Once the door was closed, Elizabeth spoke immediately, "Octavia's been disfigured."

Sarah's eyes widened, "What happened?"

Anthony had warned Elizabeth that if Margaret found out it was Octavia who was disfigured, she might retaliate even more viciously.

He urged Elizabeth to stay safe and be wary of Margaret's next move.

Elizabeth sat down, "It was Margaret. She did it."

Elizabeth explained to Sarah that she had anticipated Margaret would come after her again, so she and Anthony set a trap, waiting for Margaret to fall into it.

"Margaret had Anthony arrange a meeting with me, planning to attack. But she didn't know I had already made a deal with Anthony. So, the person Anthony met tonight was actually Octavia."

She paused, then continued, "The person Margaret hired couldn't tell the difference between me and Octavia. He threw corrosive liquid on Octavia's face, thinking she was me. Octavia's face is ruined."

Sarah covered her mouth, eyes wide. After a few moments, she exclaimed, "Oh my God! That's terrifying! Elizabeth, thank goodness you were prepared. If this had happened to you..."

"No, I can't even imagine. It wouldn't happen, it wouldn't. You're too good for something so horrible to happen to you."

Her face pale, she gently hugged Elizabeth. "Elizabeth, don't worry, you'll be fine. God will protect you."

Elizabeth hugged her back. "Sarah, thank you for always being here for me."

She steadied Sarah and looked her in the eye. "Sarah, Margaret will definitely try to retaliate. I'll stay home until I go into labor."

"Margaret won't find me, but she'll try other ways. You need to stay safe too, okay? Keep the bodyguards close and don't go out unnecessarily."

Sarah nodded seriously. "Got it. I won't come over unless you're having the baby. But you have to protect yourself too!"

Elizabeth nodded. "I'll have the bodyguards and driver take you home now."

As Sarah headed downstairs, Elizabeth's phone rang again.

She answered, and Michael's anxious voice came through. "Elizabeth, where are you?"

Elizabeth guessed he had heard the news. "I'm fine, I'm at home. It wasn't me."

Michael sighed in relief. "I'm glad you're okay."

Elizabeth suddenly wanted to know how he would react if he knew it was Octavia who was disfigured.

"Michael, you can probably guess who got hurt, right?"

Michael's voice was indifferent. "I don't care. As long as it wasn't you, I don't care about anyone else."

Without waiting for her response, he added, "Wait for me. I'm coming over. I can't relax until I see you."

A Rolls-Royce pulled up outside, and Michael stood at the door, not ringing the bell.

It was late, and he didn't want to disturb the kids.

He took out his phone and called Elizabeth. "I'm outside. Could you let me in?"

Elizabeth threw on a coat, went downstairs, and opened the door, waiting for him at the entrance.

Michael followed her upstairs.

"I told you I'm fine. Why did you come all the way here? It's so late. Aren't you going to rest?"

Elizabeth hung up her coat, took off her shoes, and lay down on the bed.

She was exhausted and just wanted to sleep.

Michael quietly closed the door, hung his jacket next to her coat, and lay down beside her.

He lifted the blanket and moved closer, gently hugging her.

Elizabeth felt his body trembling slightly.

She opened her eyes and turned to look at him. "What's wrong? Are you scared?"

He didn't answer, so she slowly turned to face him. In the dark, she reached out to touch his face, feeling the wetness of his tears.

She was surprised. "Michael, are you crying?"

With nothing nearby to wipe his face, she used the sleeve of her nightgown to gently wipe away his tears.

She rarely saw him cry. Someone as tough as him usually didn't shed tears.

"Michael, you don't have to be afraid. I'm here, and I'm fine."

Michael held her tighter, burying his head in her chest. "I know. But I'm still scared. I'm afraid that now that you've finally accepted me, I'll lose you again."
