Chapter 379 Let's Get a Divorce

Elizabeth smiled warmly, "Didn't you say you wanted to be a good dad and always protect us?"

Michael was visibly moved. He had never really understood what family meant.

Growing up, his father either beat him or scolded him. His older brother was always away at school and rarely home. His mother was timid and never dared to protect him. His sister, Eloise, had a mental disability and was dependent on him.

He had struggled to live independently since he was a child.

He kept Eloise close, not just because she was his sister and the closest person to him, but because she was the only family he had left. Eloise had always relied on him.

But now, Elizabeth had given him three children, and he had promised her that he would be there for them as they grew up.

He finally understood what a family truly was.

A wife, two sons, a daughter—all by his side. Was this what family felt like?

Elizabeth gently tugged at his sleeve and whispered, "Michael, why are you crying?"

Michael wiped away his tears.

Dean tactfully left the room.

Elizabeth chuckled softly, "You've been quite sentimental lately."

Michael sat by the hospital bed, looking at her tenderly. "Maybe it's because my new role as a father is sinking in."

Elizabeth suddenly asked, "I want to see Sarah. Can you help me over there?"

At that moment, Sarah was overwhelmed with immense pain. She had just learned the truth from the doctor.

The brutal thug's kick had not only taken her child but also severely damaged her uterus.

The doctors had done their best to repair it, but an older doctor regretfully told her, "Ms. Martinez, your uterus is severely damaged and very fragile. You should take precautions to avoid pregnancy in the future. It would be very dangerous for you."

In other words, she had lost the ability to become a mother forever.

Sarah felt that her life had perhaps been too smooth up until now.

Family, education, friendships, love, marriage—everything she had seemed perfect to outsiders. She had hardly faced any setbacks.

In the past few days, she had shed all the tears she had never cried before.

Sarah's mother, Wren Kelly, was by her side. She lovingly helped Sarah sit up. "Sarah, it's time to eat. I made all your favorite dishes."

Sarah didn't want to make Wren worry any more, so she cooperated and sat up to eat.

Wren sat beside her, gently tucking Sarah's hair behind her ear.

"Sarah, once you're feeling better, why don't you come stay with us? Your dad and I will make sure you have all your favorite foods every day."

Sarah nodded while eating. "Okay, Mom."

After she finished eating, a servant cleared away the dishes.

Sarah looked up and asked, "Where's David?"

Wren looked a bit uneasy. "David stayed with you all day and night. He was exhausted, so I told him to go home, freshen up, and come back."

In reality, David had been forcibly taken away by his parents.

The Franklin family had only one child, David. Their business was gradually being handed over to him.

In David's parents' eyes, the future of the Franklin family had to include their biological grandchildren, David's children.

Now that they knew Sarah could no longer have children, they couldn't accept her as David's wife.

When Sarah and David first got married, his parents had constantly pressured them to have children.

Sarah had always known how much David's parents wanted grandchildren.

Now, with David's departure, it confirmed what she had feared in her heart—David's parents were already dissatisfied with her.

Sarah took the glass of water Wren handed her and took a sip. "Mom, I want to divorce David."

When she and David had started dating, both families were pleased. Their wedding had been filled with blessings.

They were a perfect match in every way—looks, age, temperament, and family background.

Their marriage had seemed too perfect.

But nothing in this world is truly perfect. Fate is unpredictable.

Sarah closed her eyes slowly, then opened them again, her gaze clear and tearless. "Mom, I've made up my mind. I won't change it."

She was worried Wren wouldn't accept it.

Wren hugged her, gently patting her back like she did when Sarah was a child and had been wronged.

"Alright, Sarah. If you're not happy with David, then divorce him and come live with us. No one at home will ever hurt you."

Sarah finally broke down, crying in Wren's arms.

Wren's eyes filled with tears as she held Sarah, stroking her hair. "Don't cry, Sarah. Your dad and I will always love you."

When David reappeared in Sarah's hospital room, he looked disheveled. He didn't seem like he had gone home; he looked like he had been wandering outside.

He was still wearing the same clothes, stained with blood, and he hadn't even shaved.

Sarah and Wren looked at him.

David, who usually cared so much about his appearance, looked so unkempt.

It was clear he had argued with his parents and hadn't gotten the outcome he wanted, so he had run out.

Sarah called out softly, "David."

David immediately rushed to her bedside, awkwardly saying, "I'm sorry, Sarah. I didn't wash my hands."

Sarah gestured for him to sit in the chair beside her and calmly said, "David, let's get a divorce."

Her voice was steady, without a hint of emotion. She said it as if she were commenting on the weather.

David had just sat down but immediately stood up, agitated. "No! I don't want a divorce! Why should we get a divorce over this?"

"Sarah, we vowed during our wedding that we would stay by each other's side in sickness and in health. Have you forgotten?"

Sarah turned her head away.

Of course, she hadn't forgotten.

On their wedding day, she and David had faced the blue sky and the sea, solemnly swearing that no matter what happened, they would never leave each other.

But now, she realized how powerless those vows were. Just because of David's parents' opposition, she couldn't stay with him.

Her heart ached more than David's.

She could never be a mother again. But she couldn't deprive David of the chance to be a father.
