Chapter 466 I've Waited for You for a Long Time
Quinn couldn't hold back any longer. He rolled up his sleeve, revealing the bruises covering his arm.
"Look, I've been getting beat up constantly. I barely made it to the hospital. I need to find Elizabeth. She's the only one who can help me."
The caregiver's eyes widened at the sight of his injuries. "Oh my God!"
She gently helped Quinn pull his sleeve back down. "I know Dr. Jones, but I don't have her contact info. Hang tight, I'll ask around. In a hospital this big, someone's gotta know her."
With that, the caregiver hurried out of the room.
Quinn felt his strength drain away. He collapsed onto the pillow behind him, exhaling softly.
Soon, he would see her.
The weather was perfect that day. Elizabeth had planned a shopping trip with Sarah.
They bought a few clothes and then went for coffee.
Under Sarah's persistent urging, Elizabeth tried on the new dress she had bought.
Sarah held her hand, admiring her. "You look amazing! You always look gorgeous no matter what you wear!"
Elizabeth laughed and shook her head. "So, is it the dress that's beautiful or me?"
Sarah whistled. "The dress is great, but you're even more stunning! Michael is one lucky guy!"
Elizabeth smiled and took her hand. "Right now, I'm with you. You're lucky too!"
Sarah's phone rang.
"David, I'm with Elizabeth. We're out shopping. Okay. Wait for me. We'll be home soon."
Hanging up, Sarah winked at Elizabeth. "Elizabeth, I gotta head home. David's setting up a candlelight dinner for me."
Elizabeth smiled knowingly. "Alright. Go ahead. Be safe and have a wonderful evening."
Sarah grinned. "David said Michael has a surprise for you tonight too."
Elizabeth laughed. "You just told me, and you still call it a 'surprise'?"
Sarah laughed as well. "Don't forget to tell me all about it tomorrow."
Elizabeth shook her head with a smile.
The Martinez family driver pulled up, and Sarah got into the car, waving goodbye.
Elizabeth raised her hand. "Goodbye."
Her phone rang from her bag. She took it out and saw an unfamiliar number.
"Hello?"
"Hello, is this Dr. Elizabeth Jones?"
"Yes, this is Elizabeth."
"Hi, this is the emergency department at Harmony Health Hospital. We have a patient named Quinn..."
Hearing the name, Elizabeth's heart skipped a beat. "Quinn?"
"Yes. Quinn is very anxious to see you. Can you come over, Dr. Jones?"
Elizabeth hesitated for a moment.
Michael had made plans with her for dinner tonight. He had said, "I have something important to tell you tonight."
She hadn't asked what it was. She guessed it might be about his past.
Was Michael going to reveal his secret to her? If so, did it mean he had fully accepted her?
It was getting late.
The hospital was quite a distance from the restaurant Michael had booked. She might be late.
'Never mind, let's check on Quinn first,' she thought. She had been searching for him for so long and couldn't miss this chance.
After all, she knew how difficult it was for Quinn to make a call.
Elizabeth didn't hesitate any longer. She hailed a cab. "To Harmony Health Hospital, please."
She could explain everything to Michael later. He would understand.
Elizabeth got out of the cab and rushed into the emergency department.
She ran to the nurse's station, panting. "Hey, where's Quinn?"
The nurse on duty looked up and smiled. "Are you Dr. Elizabeth Jones?"
Elizabeth nodded, still catching her breath. "Yeah, that's me."
The nurse pointed her in the right direction. "Over there, Room 3, Bed 6."
Elizabeth thanked her and hurried to Room 3, as if Quinn might disappear if she was late.
In the room, Quinn sat up straight as soon as he saw her, his eyes brightening. "Dr. Jones, I knew you'd come."
Elizabeth sat by his bed. "I've been looking for you."
Quinn's expression was pitiful, like a child abandoned. "I've waited for you for so long."
Seeing him, Elizabeth was reminded of Eloise.
She reached out and held Quinn's hand. "It's okay, I'm here now. You don't have to be afraid anymore, Quinn. I'll take you away. I won't let you go back to the Reed family."
Quinn was excited. "Really? You won't lie to me, right?"
Elizabeth nodded solemnly. "Jesse treated you terribly. You can't survive in that house."
Though she said this, her thoughts were on Michael.
As long as Quinn was under Jesse's control, he was a threat to Michael.
Even if Michael didn't acknowledge Jesse as his father, Jesse would use Quinn to manipulate him.
Elizabeth didn't want that to happen.
She didn't want Quinn to become a bargaining chip, nor did she want Michael to be blackmailed.
The best solution was to keep Quinn safe, away from any harm to Michael.
She stood up and looked at the IV drip above him. "You have gastroenteritis? Did you eat something bad?"
Quinn shook his head, confused. "I don't know. They often didn't give me food. I ate whatever I could find."
Elizabeth's heart ached. A member of the Thomas family living such a miserable life with the Reeds!
If he hadn't been switched, he would have lived comfortably with the Thomas family, even if not in luxury.
Now? Now he lived worse than a beggar on the street.
Quinn's sleeve was slightly rolled up, and Elizabeth saw the bruises on his wrist.
She was shocked and stood up, rolling up his sleeve to see the bruises covering his arm.
She lifted his shirt, revealing more bruises on his chest and back.
Elizabeth covered her mouth, tears welling up in her eyes. She hadn't imagined Quinn's life was even more tragic than she thought.
She was more determined than ever. She had to take Quinn away. But not now.
Quinn was still very weak and needed nutrition and IV treatment. He needed to stay in the hospital for a few more days.
She softly reassured him. "Quinn, get your IV treatment. When you're better, I'll come to take you home."
After saying this, she prepared to leave.
Quinn grabbed her hand. "Dr. Jones, please, don't go!"
Elizabeth glanced at the time. Michael was already waiting for her.
She placed Quinn's hand back on the bed, speaking gently. "I'll leave a bodyguard here. He'll stay with you and protect you. Jesse and Philip won't be able to hurt you anymore. I'll come back tomorrow."
Her phone rang. She saw it was Michael calling.
Feeling uneasy, she answered.
Michael's voice was full of warmth. "Elizabeth, where are you?"
