Chapter 331 Passionate Kiss on a Rainy Night

Elizabeth raised her arm and pointed to the door. "Get out. I don't want to see you."

Michael let out a heavy sigh and gently pushed her arm down. "I'm not questioning you. I believe you. I know you wouldn't do something so cruel. But Calla asked me to come. I promised her I would, so I need to ask you. Can you tell me exactly where you were this afternoon and what you did? I need to give her an answer so she can let it go."

Elizabeth shook off his hand and said coldly, "Why should I tell someone who doesn't matter where I was or what I did? If she accuses me, she should provide the evidence. Why should I have to prove my innocence? If everyone in the world accused me, should I find evidence for each one to prove my innocence? If I'm guilty, the police will come for me, and the court will sentence me. And you, Michael, are you Calla's messenger? What right do you have to question me?"

Michael stepped closer and gently touched her stomach. "Don't get angry. The baby will feel it."

Elizabeth glared at him and scoffed. "So if it weren't for this baby, I could get angry, right? Michael, you know how ridiculous that sounds, don't you? You came here late at night to upset me over a baseless accusation from your ex-girlfriend?"

Michael, who had never been spoken to like this, felt his temper rise. He had mustered up the courage to come to Whispering Pines Estates, especially after their argument a few days ago.

"I asked you from the start where you were this afternoon."

Elizabeth repeated, "It's my business! You don't need to know!"

Michael pressed, "If it's nothing important, why can't you tell me?"

Elizabeth stared at him. "I just don't want to! It's my private matter!"

Michael's voice grew more urgent. "Calla is accusing you! She's going to sue you for intentional harm! She says she saw you destroy her eyes! She claims it was revenge because she slapped you!"

Elizabeth laughed coldly and opened the door. "Then let her sue! Let the police arrest me!"

Michael quickly shut the door and pinned her between him and the door. His eyes were red with frustration. "You'd rather let the police get involved than tell me the truth? Do you trust me so little?"

Elizabeth turned her head away, not even looking at him. "You didn't trust me first, and now you're blaming me. If you truly believed in me, you wouldn't be here at this hour."

Outside, rain began to fall, tapping against the window.

Elizabeth broke free from his hold and turned her back to him. "Leave. You're not welcome here."

She walked to the window, crossing her arms as she looked out.

The rain, illuminated by the yard lights, fell in lines, like a curtain hiding the night sky.

After a long silence, she heard soft footsteps and then the gentle sound of the door closing.

Elizabeth sighed almost imperceptibly.

He had left after all.

Coming here so late, he had ruined both their moods.

Elizabeth thought, there's no way she could sleep now. She needed to calm down first. Going to bed angry was bad for her health.

She quickly closed the curtains, forcing herself not to look at the rain.

It was a long walk from the front door to the gate. With the rain pouring down and no umbrella, he would be soaked by the time he reached his car.

Elizabeth thought stubbornly, he could just call the driver to bring an umbrella.

Why should she worry about him? After all, he came here tonight to question her for another woman!

She exhaled heavily, but couldn't help herself. She turned around.

She opened the door, walked down the stairs, and grabbed a black umbrella from the entryway.

Just as she reached for the door handle, a familiar hand covered hers.

The touch and the scent were unmistakable. Elizabeth didn't need to look up to know it was him.

She pulled her hand away and thrust the umbrella at him without a word, then turned to walk back to the living room.

Michael grabbed her and pulled her back.

He set the umbrella aside and held her tightly, forcing her to look at him.

He whispered in her ear, his voice hoarse, "Couldn't bear to see me get wet? Or couldn't bear to see me leave?"

Elizabeth hadn't expected him to still be there. She pushed him hard, but he didn't budge.

She looked up, glaring at him. In the darkness, she couldn't see his expression, but she felt the heat from his hands through her thin silk nightgown.

A strange feeling rose within her. She lowered her head, avoiding his gaze. The sound of the rain masked her racing heartbeat.

The darkness hid the blush on her face. Perhaps it was the rain, but her suppressed emotions began to surface.

Her voice was low, tinged with a hint of grievance. "What does it matter if I care? You have so many people in your heart..."

Before she could finish, Michael cupped her chin and pressed his lips to hers.

Her words were swallowed by his kiss.

His lips moved against hers, soft and cool.

Elizabeth couldn't speak.

She felt breathless, like she was suffocating. She opened her mouth to breathe, but he took the opportunity to deepen the kiss, his tongue exploring her mouth.

He held her tightly, pressing her against the wall, his left hand cradling her head as he kissed her harder.

Kissing alone wasn't enough for him.

His breathing was heavy. His hand slipped under her nightgown, caressing her gently but with restraint.

In the darkness, Elizabeth's eyes grew hazy. She struggled to stop his wandering hand, gasping, "No..."

Michael looked at her closely, his breath ragged.

She couldn't see his expression, but she could guess the confusion on his face.

She gently took his hand and placed it on her waist.

She wrapped her arms around his neck, standing on tiptoe to whisper in his ear, "Not here. Dean might come out for water."

Michael understood immediately. He scooped her up and quickly carried her upstairs.

Elizabeth buried her face in his chest.

Though it was dark and he couldn't see her face, he knew it was flushed.
