Chapter 52 Now You Don't Want a Divorce with Her?

Michael's face went stiff. "Elizabeth, you came out here to face me, all 'cause of Anthony, right?"

Elizabeth let out a cold laugh. "You think Anthony still matters to me? Why would I give a damn about a loser with a ton of bad habits? Plus, he's all tangled up with my stepsis Patricia now. He's trash!"

Michael's brain was working overtime. So, Elizabeth was pissed because of Robert's new system, not Anthony.

That thought made Michael feel a bit better.

But then he wondered, 'has Elizabeth ditched Anthony 'cause he's broke and useless to her now?'

Michael thought, if he ever lost his status and cash, would she dump him just as coldly as she did Anthony?

Probably not. 'Cause even now, when he was still got it all, she wanted a divorce.

Did she really think he was that worthless, not even as good as Anthony?

Elizabeth stared him down. "Michael, I'm dead serious. Don't push my limits. Stay out of my dad's company. Don't try to control my life. You don't own me."

Michael glared back. "Elizabeth, you're getting gutsy, threatening me like that. Get outta here now!"

They were in the middle of a heated argument.

Suddenly, the roar of a car engine shutting off came from the yard.

Michael glanced out the glass door and saw his mom, Mary, rushing over.

Susan opened the door for her and welcomed her in with respect.

As soon as Mary stepped into the living room, she stormed towards Elizabeth and, without a word, slapped her hard across the face.

Michael jumped up from the couch, staring at Mary in shock. "Mom, why? Why'd you slapped Elizabeth?"

Mary pointed at Elizabeth's nose and yelled, "Elizabeth! I can't believe it. I must've been blind to let a snake like you into the Thomas Family. I thought you were a good girl. Turns out, you were secretly dating Anthony for three years! I rushed you into marrying Michael, and you two have been so shady. Elizabeth, you played me! If I'd known you were such a loose woman, I'd never have let you into this family! You've dishonored the Thomas Family's name! You don't deserve to be Michael's wife!"

Elizabeth, knocked down by the slap, was now sitting by the coffee table.

She covered her red, swollen face, looked up coldly at Mary, and said, "Back then, you forced me to marry Michael. Did you ever ask what I wanted? In your eyes, am I even a person? You treated me like some object you bought. Do you ask an object where it wants to be? Do you ask if it's willing?"

Mary, who always thought Elizabeth was a pushover, was now shaking with rage at her defiance.

Susan quickly helped her to the couch.

Michael stood beside her, trying to stay calm. "Mom, chill out."

Mary glared at Michael, fuming. "Michael, how can I chill? Anthony's fingers got chopped off, and now he's disabled. Anthony is my grandson, and it breaks my heart!"

She pointed a finger at Elizabeth. "It's all that damn Elizabeth's fault!"

Mary clutched her chest. "He lost his fingers, can you imagine the pain? Michael, I've failed you and Anthony! It's my fault for bringing a snake like Elizabeth into our family. She tricked you and messed with Anthony. She makes me sick."

Mary grabbed Michael's sleeve. "Michael, divorce Elizabeth now! I won't stop you anymore. I was fooled by her act before. Elizabeth is a disaster, tearing our family apart. She made Anthony disabled, who knows what she'll do to you next! Go, get a divorce tomorrow! I never want to see this hateful bitch again!"

Michael's eyes were cold as he gently brushed off Mary's hand. "Mom, since Anthony's fingers got chopped off, let it be a lesson for him to stop gambling. But it's not hopeless. Send a car to take him and his fingers to the hospital. The surgeons might be able to reattach them."

Mary looked at Michael in disbelief. "Michael, what's wrong with you? Anthony is your nephew. How can you be so heartless?"

Michael stared at Mary coldly. "Mom, don't you think he brought this on himself? He tried to frame me first. Why should I care about him? And, Mom, my issues with Elizabeth are between us. Please stay out of it."

Mary, gripping the couch armrest, shot up. "What do you mean? Haven't you been yelling for a divorce every day? Now you don't want to divorce her? Have you fallen for her?"

Mary slapped her thigh and started wailing. "Woe is me. When you wanted a divorce, why did I stop you? Why didn't I let you go through with it?"

Mary pointed a trembling finger at Michael. "You're defying me and siding with Elizabeth over Anthony!"

Michael frowned and said to Susan, "Call Joshua to take Mrs. Thomas back to the villa. It's late, and she needs to rest, or her heart condition will flare up again."

With that, Michael glanced at Elizabeth, who was kneeling by the coffee table.

He raised his hand slightly, as if to help her up, but then thought better of it.

Michael turned and walked up the stairs to his room.

Elizabeth stumbled to her feet, dusted off her stiff knees, and headed back to her room.
