Chapter 81 She Fell in Love with Him

In Nancy's dining room, Nancy and Elizabeth were having a meal. Nancy asked worriedly, "Elizabeth, are you really sure you want to divorce Michael?" Elizabeth slowly took a sip of her soup and paused, unsure of how to respond.

Nancy pressed on, "So, today with Michael, did you two...?"

Elizabeth was so embarrassed she almost hid her face in her bowl.

Seeing her reaction, Nancy got the hint.

Nancy took a bite and said, "Elizabeth, I've told you before, think it through. Whether you want to divorce him or not, I'll respect your decision. But from where I stand, I don't think you can. You might not see it, but as an outsider, I can. You have feelings for him, and so does he. Otherwise, he wouldn't have brought gifts just to visit me. You two were in the same room, and you didn't push him away, which means you actually like him a lot."

Elizabeth slowly ate, trying to gather her thoughts. "Mom, my mind is a mess. The babies, Dad's company, my thesis revisions—it's all giving me a headache. I'm definitely keeping the babies. If Michael can't accept that, then I have to divorce him. I can't give up my children just to be with him. The Jones Group Dad left behind is drowning in debt, and even though someone wants to invest, I don't really want to accept it. Mom, why do we have to grow up? Growing up brings so many problems. I just want to go back to being a kid."

Elizabeth lowered her head, and a tear fell into her soup.

Nancy reached out and gently stroked her hair. "We all have to grow up, honey. Not only will you grow up, but you'll also grow old. It's normal to have troubles; you can tell me about them. I can help you carry the load. Even if I can't, at least I can still make dinner for you."

Elizabeth looked at her mother with tearful eyes. "Mom, it's so good to have you by my side. You must live a long life and stay with me forever."

Both mother and daughter smiled gently.

After dinner, Nancy went to the kitchen to wash the dishes. Elizabeth followed her to help.

Nancy shooed her away, "Go rest on the couch. You're pregnant. You need to take it easy and not overdo it."

Elizabeth wanted to say she'd slept all day.

Elizabeth sat bored on the sofa, watching TV absentmindedly, not really knowing what she was watching.

Suddenly, she remembered the phone call from the afternoon and got up to look for her phone. But she couldn't find it anywhere.

Using Nancy's phone, she dialed her own number, but there was no sound of her phone ringing. Elizabeth thought it over and decided it probably wasn't anything urgent and she'd look for it tomorrow.

Nancy, who had been busy all day with work, cooking, and cleaning, was also very tired. She reminded Elizabeth to go to bed early and then went to her room to rest.

Elizabeth went back to her bedroom.

She washed up, changed into her pajamas, and lay quietly on the bed.

As soon as she lay down, she couldn't help but think about what had happened on this bed during the day, making her feel shy just thinking about it.

She buried her head deep into the pillow.

It seemed like the pillow still had Michael's scent on it.

Elizabeth quickly tossed the pillow aside and hugged the blanket instead.

But the blanket also had Michael's scent.

Elizabeth felt like she couldn't sleep at all.

She had already slept the whole day, and now the bed was filled with Michael's scent.

As soon as she lay down, that familiar scent enveloped her, as if he was still lying next to her, holding her.

Elizabeth lay on the bed, tossing and turning.

She kept muttering softly, "I'm going crazy."

As she rolled around on the bed, her body suddenly hit something hard.

She reached under the blanket and groped around, finding her phone that she had been looking for.

Elizabeth picked up the phone and saw that it was set to silent mode.

No wonder she didn't hear the sound when Nancy called.

Elizabeth opened her phone and saw a message from Michael.

Michael: [Today was really enjoyable. I'm heading back now. Get some rest. I won't disturb your sleep. See you later.]

Seeing this message, Elizabeth blushed with embarrassment and buried herself in the blanket.

She had made love to him in the daytime. It was so embarrassing.

And she felt like his "see you later" had some hidden meaning.

Elizabeth locked her phone, put it on the nightstand to charge, turned off the lights, and lay back in bed.

She didn't want to reply to Michael because she didn't know what to say.

She knew very well that she had fallen in love with Michael.

But she could only divorce him. It was an unsolvable problem.

She placed her hand on her chest, trying to calm her racing heart.

Elizabeth lay quietly, her eyes open, looking outside through the gap in the curtains.

In the dark, she began to carefully recall everything that had happened on the bed during the day.
