Chapter 103 He Discovered Elizabeth's Secret

Upstairs, Elizabeth dialed up her divorce lawyer, Terry Perez. "Hey, Terry, it's Elizabeth."

"Hey, Elizabeth," Terry responded.

Elizabeth cut to the chase, "What's the latest on my divorce?"

Terry sighed, "Elizabeth, I'm sorry, but Michael still won't sign the papers. He's even dodging my calls now."

Elizabeth's frustration bubbled over. "Four years and he still won't budge? Tell him if he keeps dragging this out, I'm taking him to court."

"Alright, let me try reaching him from a different number. Maybe that'll work," Terry suggested.

"Okay, Terry. I'll be waiting for your update," Elizabeth said before hanging up.

She scrolled through her contacts and found another number to call. It was Ryan, the old HR manager from the Jones Group.

Ryan's voice came through. "Who's this?"

"Mr. Martin, it's Elizabeth. Remember me?" she asked.

Ryan's tone turned icy. "Elizabeth? How dare you call me? Four years ago, you could've saved the Jones Group, but you declared bankruptcy instead. Do you know how that felt for those of us who dedicated our lives to the company? If your dad, Robert, were still alive, he would've never let this happen! You broke our hearts! You declared bankruptcy, skipped out on the debt, and just left us behind. Did you ever think about us? We misjudged you! We thought you'd save the company, but you were heartless. Robert's legacy was destroyed by you! I have nothing more to say. Goodbye!"

Just as Ryan was about to hang up, Elizabeth quickly interjected, "Mr. Martin, please, hear me out!"

Ryan's anger flared. "Hear you out? What, things didn't work out abroad, so now you're back?"

Elizabeth murmured "It's not like that..."

Ryan cut her off, "Not like that? Then what? You need money? Even if I had any, I wouldn't give it to someone as ungrateful as you!"

Elizabeth pleaded in a low voice, "Mr. Martin, you misunderstood. I'm calling to see if you have contact info for any former employees of the Jones Group. I want to rebuild the company and hire them back. I'm afraid if I call, they'll react like you did. Can you reach out for me? I promise the pay will be double what it was."

"Double the salary? Seems like you did well abroad." Hearing that, Ryan's tone softened a bit.

Elizabeth sensed that Ryan was somewhat compromising. "Though living abroad has its perks, I still want to come back," she said.

"Alright, I'll see what I can do," Ryan said.

Elizabeth added, "There's one more thing I need your help with."

Upon hearing about the company's reconstruction and that the salary would be twice as much as before, Ryan had already become a supporter of Elizabeth. "What else do you need, Elizabeth? Just tell me."

Elizabeth said, "Mr. Martin, four years ago, I lost track of who bought the Jones Group's building. Can you help me find out who the buyer is? I want to buy it back."

"No problem, I'll look into it for you," Ryan agreed immediately.

Elizabeth was thrilled. "Thank you so much, Mr. Martin."

Ryan was confident. "It's nothing. Just a piece of cake for me."

Elizabeth happily thanked Ryan and hung up the phone.

The next morning, Elizabeth took Pearl to kindergarten. She stood at the gate, watching Pearl with her pink backpack, happily hopping into school.

Elizabeth headed back to Whispering Pines Estates. She also needed to persuade Nolan to go to school; he couldn't always stay at home alone and needed to go out and interact with others.

She went upstairs, knocked his door and asked, "May I come in, Nolan?"

"Yeah, come in," Nolan replied. He was working on his computer.

Elizabeth sat on the stool by his desk.

She looked at him tenderly. "Nolan, how about we go check out Global Horizons International School today?"

Nolan looked up and saw the expectation in Elizabeth's eyes. He nodded and said, "Alright."

Elizabeth had taken Nolan to visit many schools before, but none had made him want to stay.

Nolan quickly shut down his computer and changed his clothes and shoes.

He stood up and adjusted his baseball cap. "We can go now, Mom."

Nolan always wore his baseball cap, even indoors.

Before leaving, Elizabeth told Nancy, "Mom, I'm taking Nolan to see a school today. We might not be back for lunch."

Nancy said happily, "Alright. I'll make a big dinner for you tonight."

Elizabeth took Nolan out and hailed a cab to Global Horizons International School. She had heard of Global Horizons International School while she was abroad. It was a renowned high-end special school internationally. The children who attended came from very affluent families.

The tuition was several hundred thousand dollars a year. Besides, only those with member referrals would be allowed.

Elizabeth had asked many friends for help while abroad to get a member referral.

Elizabeth and Nolan got out of the cab at the school gate. Elizabeth held Nolan's hand and walked towards the security booth.

The security personnel asked them to register.

While Elizabeth was registering, a black Rolls-Royce drove past them.

Elizabeth looked up at the license plate. The plate was too familiar. Even after four years, Elizabeth recognized Michael's license plate at a glance. Although his Rolls-Royce model had changed, the license plate hadn't.

Elizabeth instinctively tightened her grip on Nolan's hand. She used her body to shield Nolan from view.

These small actions did not escape Nolan's notice. Because Elizabeth was gripping too tightly, she hurt Nolan's hand.

Nolan had never seen Elizabeth so flustered. In his memory, Elizabeth was always gentle, composed, and calm.

This was the first time he had seen Elizabeth with such a nervous expression.

He immediately became interested in this school. He wanted to know what relationship the owner of that car had with Elizabeth.

What had the car owner done to Elizabeth to make her so nervous just by seeing the license plate?
