Chapter 366 Sign It and I'll Forgive You
Matthew had psyched himself up before heading to Whispering Pines Estates.
He figured, after the way he had insulted Elizabeth, she’d probably tear into him, really let him have it. When that happened, he planned to just take it, let her get it all out.
But to his surprise, Elizabeth accepted his apology with just a simple sentence.
He was stunned. "Ms. Jones? Seriously? Just like that? After all the awful things I said, you're forgiving me so easily?"
Elizabeth looked at him, her eyes cold. "Mr. Anderson, I think you misunderstood. I said I accepted your apology. You can leave now."
"You insulted me and badmouthed me in front of Michael, but you were misled and didn’t know the whole story. I respect that you had the guts to come and apologize once you realized you were wrong."
"But that doesn’t mean I forgive you. We were never that close to begin with. What you said, I could’ve ignored. But nobody likes being insulted to their face, right?"
Matthew felt a wave of shame. Elizabeth was right. He had been wrong and couldn’t force her to forgive him.
Now, it was up to Michael.
Only if Michael came to personally apologize to Elizabeth would she possibly forgive them for the hurt they caused her.
Elizabeth turned and went upstairs. Dean escorted Matthew out.
Summer was almost over, and Nolan and Pearl were about to start school.
After attending the summer camp, Nolan got an invitation to join the gifted program at Maplewood Preparatory School.
This school was notoriously tough to get into, especially the gifted program, which had super high standards that most students couldn’t meet.
In the evening, Louis, Sarah, David, and Carter were invited to Whispering Pines Estates.
Elizabeth wanted to have a get-together with her friends before her due date.
Housekeeping robots and staff had decorated the garden with small fairy lights, creating a festive atmosphere.
Friends and kids were eating, drinking, and playing in the living room.
Elizabeth sat in a chair, watching them with a heart full of happiness.
How lucky she was to have friends who would always be there for her, no matter what happened.
She took out her phone, opened the camera, and captured this happy moment.
The doorbell rang. Everyone instinctively looked towards the door, but Dean immediately looked at Elizabeth.
He didn’t need to guess; it was definitely Michael outside.
Elizabeth seemed to have guessed too. She stood up and checked the monitor. Sure enough, it was Michael at the door.
Without hesitation, she pressed the button to open the door.
Dean was puzzled. "Elizabeth, you don’t have to be afraid. We’re all on your side."
Sarah also came over. "Elizabeth, don’t worry. We’re all here. Michael won’t dare do anything to you."
Elizabeth wrapped her silk shawl around herself and smiled. "Why make such a fuss? He’s not here to fight."
By this time, Michael was already at the living room door.
In just a few days, he had become so haggard.
Elizabeth glanced at him briefly and then said softly, "Let's talk in my room."
Sarah tried to stop her. "Elizabeth..."
Elizabeth gently patted her hand reassuringly. "It's okay. We need to clear some things up face-to-face. These matters are best discussed privately. You all continue having fun."
Sarah stepped aside, and Michael followed Elizabeth upstairs to her room.
Elizabeth closed the door and gestured for him to sit wherever he liked.
Michael sat on the sofa in the outer room. Elizabeth sat across from him.
A wall lamp cast a dim light in the room. Her face showed no expression. "Go ahead."
Michael was a bit stunned. "What?"
Elizabeth raised her eyebrows slightly. "You came to see me, didn't you have something to say? Why are you here then?"
Michael unbuttoned his shirt cuffs and rolled up his sleeves.
His elbows rested on his knees, and his hands rubbed together nervously. The watch on his left wrist reflected a faint light.
Seeing that he had nothing to say, Elizabeth didn't push him. She stood up and walked towards the bathroom door.
Michael thought she was leaving and immediately stood up, grabbing her arm. "I'm sorry!"
As soon as he said it, Michael felt a sense of relief.
It turned out that apologizing in person wasn't that hard.
He reached out and held her hands, making her face him. "Elizabeth, I should have apologized to you a long time ago. I'm sorry for misunderstanding you and causing you pain. My actions must have hurt you deeply."
"Elizabeth, I don't expect your forgiveness. I just hope you won't let my foolish behavior affect your health."
Elizabeth gently pulled her hands away. "I know. I won't let the baby be harmed."
Michael realized she misunderstood him and hurried to explain. "Elizabeth, I'm not talking about the baby. I'm talking about you. Anger is bad for your health."
Elizabeth looked up. "If it's my health that's affected, what does that have to do with you?"
She was clearly sulking at him.
Michael tentatively hugged her gently, his tone softening. "Elizabeth, what can I do to make you feel better? Do you want to yell at me? Go ahead, give me a good scolding! Or hit me. Take out your anger on me, okay?"
He lifted her right hand and gently blew on it, glancing at her face. "This hand slapped Octavia before, right? I wanted to ask you then, did your hand hurt?"
Elizabeth turned her head away, not looking at him.
Michael had hurt her deeply.
Those wounds had left scars on her heart. Even if they healed, the scars remained.
She didn't want to dwell on these issues now. She had something important to clarify with him.
She took a step to the side. "Michael, do you want me to forgive you?"
Michael followed her step, getting closer. "Of course!"
Otherwise, why would he come here tonight, knowing there were so many people around, risking embarrassment?
Daniel had already told him about the small gathering at Elizabeth's house tonight.
Elizabeth pulled a piece of paper from a drawer and handed it to him. "Sign this, and I'll forgive you."
