Chapter 589 A Bolt from the Blue

Cordelia shook her head. "I'm not going back. I just need to stretch my legs. I've been cooped up in my room all day, and I'm starting to feel a bit lightheaded."

The maid quickly stepped in to support her. "Ms. Murphy, let me help you to the garden outside. The hallway's empty and there's nothing to see."

Cordelia nodded. "Alright. Maybe some fresh air will do me good."

Downstairs in the garden, a cool breeze carried the scent of flowers.

Cordelia walked slowly, taking in her surroundings.

The maid stayed close. "Ms. Murphy, this hospital garden is so tiny compared to the one at our castle. And the flowers here are pretty limited."

Cordelia gave a wry smile. "This is a hospital, not a resort. If you think the garden isn't up to par, call the director and ask him to spruce it up."

"Ms. Murphy, what I mean is, you're pregnant now. You should be somewhere with plenty of fresh air and a relaxing atmosphere. The ICU isn't the best place for you to recover."

Cordelia pouted. "I don't want to see Elizabeth. She just gets on my nerves."

The maid quickly responded. "Elizabeth was placed here by Mr. Stewart. With Mr. Murphy just passing away, you haven't fully taken control of the Murphy family yet. We can't afford to offend Mr. Stewart right now. It's better to keep him happy. It'll save you trouble down the road."

Cordelia frowned slightly. "That's exactly why I'm so annoyed. If it weren't for Mr. Stewart, I would've dealt with her a long time ago." Her eyes flashed with a dangerous light.

The maid shivered at her gaze. "Ms. Murphy, let's go back to the castle. If Mr. Thomas wakes up, the bodyguards can call you right away. You'll have plenty of time to come back."

Cordelia lowered her head and sighed softly. "Alright."

The maid helped her out of the garden. "I'll get everything packed and arrange for you to go home."

The maid carried Cordelia's luggage downstairs and placed it in the trunk.

The maid helped Cordelia into the back seat.

The bodyguard stood by the car door, waiting respectfully for her instructions.

Cordelia looked towards the ICU. "If Michael wakes up, notify me immediately. No mistakes."

The bodyguard bowed respectfully. "Yes, Ms. Murphy."

Cordelia, deep in thought, left the hospital.

In the ICU room, Elizabeth looked towards the waiting area outside the ICU, where Cordelia was no longer in sight.

She sat by the bed and breathed a sigh of relief.

She held Michael's large hand, massaging it gently.

"Michael, please wake up soon. When you do, let's not have any more misunderstandings. We need to be together. We've already wasted too much time."

A nurse on duty came in to change Michael's IV bag.

"Dr. Jones."

Elizabeth looked up, her eyes full of questions. "Do I know you?"

The nurse nodded, glancing around before speaking softly. "I used to work in the same department as Rowan. And I also worked at Valoria's neurology hospital. You were so famous back then, it was hard not to know you."

Elizabeth gave a bitter smile. "Unfortunately, I didn't continue being a doctor."

The nurse replied softly. "Yes, many people were sorry to see you go. Your surgeries were so impressive!"

"That's all in the past."

The nurse finished checking the information and changing the IV bag, lowering her voice even more. "Dr. Jones, the man in the bed, he's your husband, right?"

Elizabeth hesitated for a second, then nodded. "Yes."

"I knew it. That Ms. Murphy from the Murphy family must be the other woman! When she came to our hospital for a transplant surgery, she seemed very suspicious."

Elizabeth was puzzled. "A transplant surgery? Cordelia looks very healthy. What did she need to transplant?"

"You don't know? The baby she's carrying is an embryo transplanted from someone else. She didn't conceive it herself."

This revelation hit Elizabeth like a bolt of lightning.

Her eyes widened. "An embryo transplant? Are you sure?"

"Of course! Her anesthesiologist is my roommate. She told me everything."

"Who was the surgeon?"

The nurse shook her head. "I don't know. She was kicked out of the operating room after administering the anesthesia. She was only allowed back in after the surgery to monitor the patient. Even the surgical records are confidential."

She leaned closer to Elizabeth. "Dr. Jones, I thought this baby might be related to you, so I wanted to tell you. Please don't mention it was me."

She collected the used IV bag and left the ICU.

Elizabeth lowered her head, slowly processing the information.

As she did, Michael slowly opened his eyes.

He turned his head towards Elizabeth, his voice hoarse and slow. "Elizabeth?"

Elizabeth was massaging his arm and was startled by his voice, hardly daring to believe it.

She looked at him with wide eyes. "Michael, you're awake?"

Michael quietly looked at her.

Elizabeth's tears began to fall. She instinctively reached out to hug him but stopped when she saw her isolation gown.

She pulled back her arms, sat down again, and held his hand. "It's so good that you're awake! You have no idea how long you've been unconscious!"

Michael kept his eyes on her.

Elizabeth looked down, coughing lightly, and spoke awkwardly. "Um, your wife, Cordelia, do you remember her? She can't come into the ICU. She was waiting outside but just left because she's pregnant. She'll definitely come back when she hears you're awake."

Michael's voice was still hoarse. "My wife is you, Elizabeth, isn't it?"

Elizabeth's eyes widened. "Michael?"

"Yes. Elizabeth, I remember everything. We got married. We went to Aetheria for our honeymoon. Then I lost Stellar Enterprises."

Elizabeth looked down in guilt. "I'm sorry, Michael. I know saying 'sorry' can't heal your wounds or fix our situation. I know you won't forgive me."

Michael tightened his grip on her hand. "Who said I wouldn't forgive you? You explained everything, didn't you? You did it to save Eloise. And you said that when I came back, you'd have Quinn transfer the shares back to me."

Elizabeth covered her mouth in surprise. "Oh my God! Michael, you really remember?"

Michael nodded. "Yes. I remember not just that, but also how much we love each other. No one can separate us."

Elizabeth, with no more reservations, threw herself into his arms, hugging him tightly.

"Michael, I'm so happy you're finally back."

Michael placed his hand on her back, gently patting her. "Yes, I'm your man, and I'm back."
