Chapter 65 He Saved Her
Elizabeth nodded slightly, "Mom, I'm so confused. I don't know how to deal with him. I don't want to go back to Sunset Heights. Can I crash here tonight?"
Nancy replied, "Of course you can. I'll get the room next door ready for you. You can stay here anytime you want. But what's going on? Aren't you set on divorcing him? You seem torn tonight. Elizabeth, be honest, have you fallen for Michael?"
Elizabeth took a spoonful of soup, paused for quite a while and then swallowed. "Mom, I think I really have fallen for Michael."
Nancy gently patted her hand, "Elizabeth, I've met Michael. He's good-looking and seems like a decent man, not as bad as you said. And I think he does care about you. Have you thought about giving it a shot?"
Elizabeth looked conflicted, "No, Mom, he doesn't like kids. He wanted me to abort the babies."
Nancy sighed and picked at her food, "Oh right, I forgot about that."
When it came to the babies, Elizabeth's eyes hardened, "So, whether he likes me or not, the babies are almost three months old. I can't stay with him any longer. And Mom, you don't know, Michael is moody and quick-tempered. I'm scared of what he might do if he gets angry again."
Nancy looked at her lovingly, "Elizabeth, don't worry. I may not be of much help on this, but I'll always support you. Whenever you come back, there will always be a room for you here."
Elizabeth nodded and said, "Thanks, Mom."
Nancy patted her head slightly, "Good girl."
Elizabeth put down her bowl, "Mom, I'm full."
After the mean, Nancy stood up and took the dishes to the kitchen, "Then watch some TV for a while."
Elizabeth said, "Mom, I want to go for a walk."
Nancy called out from the kitchen, "It's windy outside. Put on a coat."
Elizabeth agreed while changing her shoes and heading for the door.
When she reached the door, she saw a tall figure standing under the tree in the yard.
A small red glow flickered at the figure's fingertips.
Elizabeth immediately recognized it as Michael, smoking.
Elizabeth thought, 'When did Michael get here? How long has he been standing there? He's been smoking all this time, with so many cigarette butts around his feet. Doesn't he care about his lungs? Is he trying to kill himself?'
Elizabeth didn't want to deal with him and scuttled off in the opposite direction.
Michael also noticed her. Seeing her leave, he quickly caught up with her.
Elizabeth heard footsteps behind her and picked up the pace.
Michael caught up and grabbed her sleeve, "Elizabeth."
She turned to face him, "Michael, did you follow me here to keep forcing me to do things I don't want to do? Just like that night?"
"I'm sorry, Elizabeth. I made you angry, and that was my fault. But I don't think I was wrong that night. If I had to do it again, I'd still do the same." Michael stared into her eyes.
Hearing that he still didn't realize his mistakes, Elizabeth immediately shook off his hand and dashed away.
She thought, 'He doesn't think like a normal person at all. Who would rape his wife like that?'
Michael caught up to her.
Elizabeth, to avoid Michael hold her hands, kept her hands in her coat pockets, her eyes looking straight ahead. She asked coldly, "Michael, have you ever thought that Anthony is not the father, but you?"
Elizabeth stopped and turned to look up at Michael, "Michael, I'm telling you seriously, you're the father!"
There wasn't a hint of doubt in Michael's eyes, "I've thought about it. It must have been my mom who forced you to conceive using the sperm I had stored in the sperm bank, right?"
So he had already knew? Then why did he still do that? Elizabeth uttered, "I thought you would argue."
Michael said, "Anthony told me. He said that even though you two dated for three years, you always refused to have sex with him."
Elizabeth asked, a bit confused, "Michael, now that you know you're the father, do you regret what you did?"
Michael said without hesitation, "I don't regret it. Shouldn't a child be the result of mutual love between a couple? A child conceived without my knowledge, do you think I would like that? Besides, you forced the baby into this world. Did you ask for their opinion? Did they want to come into this world?"
Elizabeth looked at him in disbelief and asked, "But since they were already living inside me, why did you take away their right to be born? Did you ask for their opinion before you killed them?"
Michael didn't say anything. He took a deep drag on his cigarette and exhaled the smoke through his nose.
Elizabeth said coldly, "Michael, I never thought you could be so cold and heartless! I was wrong about you!"
After saying this, she stormed towards Nancy's house.
Near Nancy's house was a row of single-story houses.
Some of the roofs were covered with loose sheets of metal.
The wind was howling that night, and the metal sheets on the roofs of the houses were a bit loose.
Just as Elizabeth reached the door, the metal sheet on the roof of the nearest shop was suddenly blown off by the wind with a loud crash.
Elizabeth, still angry, didn't realize the danger behind her.
Seeing the large metal sheet about to fall on Elizabeth, Michael didn't hesitate for a second.
He threw away his cigarette and rushed forward, pushing Elizabeth away forcefully.
His legs hadn't fully recovered yet, and he had been standing in the cold wind downstairs for a long time.
At this point, his legs were almost giving out.
So, after pushing Elizabeth away, he had neither the time nor the strength to take another step forward.
Consequently, with a loud clang, the piece of metal blown by the wind fell directly onto Michael, knocking him heavily to the ground.
