Chapter 399 The Old Story of Patricide
William, not yet drunk, kept shaking his head. "I told you, I can't tell you. If I do, it won't just ruin Michael's reputation. Our entire Thomas family will lose face in Aurora Bay. We might not even have a place in Celestria."
Anthony scoffed. "Dad, don't you get it? Ever since Michael shot Mom, he's been on a different path. He doesn't consider himself part of the Thomas family anymore. Why should you care about family ties? Tell me. I'm your real son! Do you think I'd harm you?"
William muttered to himself, "Real son... real son."
"Yeah, if you don't tell me, are you planning to take this secret to your grave? Aren't you afraid that once you're gone, Michael will come after me? If I have something on him, I can protect myself, right?"
William frowned, deep in thought.
"Anthony, Michael isn't that cruel. He was forced into it. When he was young, he saw your grandpa beat and abuse your aunt, Eloise, every day. Sometimes, he even hit Michael because Michael often protected Eloise and stood up to him."
"One day, your grandpa was beating Eloise again, and Michael couldn't take it anymore. He fought back and accidentally killed your grandpa."
"Your grandma was afraid Michael would be taken by the police, so she got a doctor to diagnose him with a mental illness. That way, Michael avoided prison."
Anthony's eyes widened. So that's it. No wonder Samuel told him to dig deeper and ask around.
So, Michael really had a big secret!
If he could find that old doctor's diagnosis, he could ruin Michael's reputation!
His hands trembled slightly. He was finally going to defeat Michael.
For years, he'd been crushed under Michael's cold, ruthless demeanor, living a miserable life. Now, he could seek Samuel's protection and no longer have to face Michael's scorn.
William was completely drunk now, slumped in his chair, muttering, "Michael, Eloise, have you seen Mom?"
A servant helped him away.
He kept talking to himself, "Michael, it was him who was bad to you. Why do you hate me too?"
Anthony had already left, running back to his room to make a call.
"Mr. Taylor, you were right. Michael does have a secret."
On the other end, Samuel chuckled. "Of course I knew. Why else would I have you go back and confirm it with your dad?"
Anthony calculated his leverage. "Mr. Taylor, how much are you willing to pay for this secret?"
Samuel took a deep drag of his cigarette and exhaled slowly. "That depends on whether the secret is worth paying for. After all, I already know it."
Anthony felt a bit disappointed but didn't give up. "Mr. Taylor, knowing and having proof are two different things. As a member of the Thomas family, I'll find solid evidence."
Samuel sneered. "Michael should've finished you off when he had the chance."
Anthony's face twisted with anger. "Since he spared me, he'll face my revenge. He's getting old, and it's time I taught him a lesson. He can't keep me under his thumb forever. I can fight back too."
Samuel clicked his tongue. "Michael having a nephew like you, I don't know if it's his misfortune. Alright, tell me your terms."
Anthony didn't hesitate. "Help me clear my fifty-million-dollar debt."
Samuel surprisingly agreed quickly. "Fifty million dollars? No problem. You'll get the confirmation soon."
Anthony thought, 'Samuel must really hate Michael to agree so easily to clear a fifty-million-dollar debt.'
After arriving in Valoria, Elizabeth settled Francis in and immediately contacted Quinn's family to inform them about the upcoming treatment.
Quinn's father, Jesse Reed, arranged to meet her at a café. Since Elizabeth was nursing, she only ordered water.
The moment she saw Quinn's father, she was taken aback.
She couldn't tell if it was just her imagination, but she felt that the man in front of her looked a lot like Michael.
Could it be that she missed Michael so much that she saw him in every man she met?
She must be going crazy.
Was there some connection between the Reed family in Valoria and the Thomas family in Celestria?
Why did she think Quinn looked like Eloise, and Michael like Quinn's father?
Was she losing her mind?
Jesse gently called her, "Dr. Jones? Is there anything else?"
Elizabeth snapped back to reality and shook her head. "No, nothing else. Once I confirm the surgery date, I'll contact you so Quinn can prepare."
Jesse nodded, stood up, and politely said goodbye.
Elizabeth shook her head, trying to clear her mind of the strange thoughts.
The driver took her back to the villa. This villa was one she had bought in the early days of her entrepreneurial journey in Valoria, and it was small.
Later, Innovatech Solutions emerged as a dark horse in the business world and established a firm foothold in Valoria's business circle, and she no longer lacked money.
Dean had once advised her to move to a bigger house, but she felt that Valoria was not a permanent place to settle, so she never changed houses.
The driver parked the car. Elizabeth got out and was about to ring the doorbell when a familiar, excited voice called out, "Elizabeth! You're finally here!"
Elizabeth looked up quickly and saw Sarah's bright face.
She shouted excitedly, "Sarah! How did you get here so fast? If I knew you were coming today, I would've come back earlier."
Sarah laughed, pulling her inside. "I didn't have any classes this afternoon, so I came over. You said on the phone that we'd meet tomorrow, but I couldn't wait another night. You know I hate waiting for anything."
Elizabeth linked arms with her affectionately. "Have you met Francis and Susan?"
Sarah nodded. "Yes! Susan let me in. Francis is so adorable! He'll definitely be a handsome man when he grows up!"
Elizabeth smiled. "He's just a little boy now."
Sarah joked, "He's already winking at me."
Elizabeth couldn't help but laugh and shake her head. "Are your parents still here?"
"My dad went back home. My mom stayed with me."
"Your dad's business must be busy back home?"
Sarah nodded. "Yeah, if he could, he would've stayed here with Mom and me. He said he missed out on spending time with me growing up because he was busy with work. He wanted to take this chance to spend time with me in Valoria, but his vice presidents kept calling him back."
Elizabeth asked, "Are you and your mom going back home for Christmas or staying here?"
