Chapter 373 Missing
Elizabeth shook her head. "Let's wait a bit longer. I want to eat with Sarah."
The servant glanced at the clock, noting that nearly half an hour had passed, and took the dishes back to the kitchen.
"Ms. Jones, I'll take the food away for now. When Ms. Martinez arrives, I'll reheat it and bring it back out."
Elizabeth nodded. "Alright."
She looked at the clock again. Forty minutes had passed, and Sarah still hadn't shown up.
Feeling uneasy, she stood up and frowned, looking towards the front door.
She dialed Sarah's number, but no one answered. This had never happened before.
Elizabeth's anxiety grew. She called David.
David answered quickly. "Hey, Elizabeth. What's up?"
"David, has Sarah called you?"
David's voice was calm. "No, she hasn't. She's home alone today and might be a bit bored. She might call you."
"She didn't go to see you?"
David chuckled. "No, she usually doesn't come to my office. She finds it boring."
Elizabeth hung up, feeling even more uneasy.
Sarah hadn't gone to see David, nor had she come to Whispering Pines Estates, and she wasn't answering her phone. Where could she be?
The servant, noticing her anxiety, suggested, "Ms. Jones, should you call Mr. Thomas for help?"
Elizabeth shook her head. Michael was already on a flight abroad. He had been working like crazy to ensure he could take time off during her due date.
As she anxiously waited by the door, a car pulled up outside.
Elizabeth immediately walked down the steps.
The servant called after her, "Ms. Jones, slow down! There's no rush. Put on a coat!"
Elizabeth was already at the door, quickly opening it.
Louis and Eloise got out of the car and walked over.
Elizabeth was surprised to see them.
Eloise approached timidly. "Elizabeth, are you not happy to see us? I'm sorry we didn't call ahead."
Elizabeth waved her hand. "No, it's not that. Please, come in. I was just curious to see you both together."
Louis carried some shopping bags. "Elizabeth, Eloise thought you might need some things for the baby, so we picked up a few items. We hope they'll be useful."
Elizabeth welcomed them in. "Thank you, Eloise. And thank you, Louis."
Before closing the door, she glanced outside again, but there was still no sign of Sarah.
Eloise sat on the couch. "Elizabeth, did Nolan and Pearl go to school?"
"Yes, Nolan transferred to the school you recommended, the one with the gifted program. Thanks to your suggestion, he signed up for the entrance exam and summer camp on his own. If I had brought it up to him directly, he might have refused."
Eloise smiled. "Elizabeth, Nolan's a great kid. He really listens to you and gets you."
Elizabeth hadn't expected that Eloise's intelligence had now almost reached that of a normal adult.
She was very happy for Eloise.
Even though she and Michael had separated back then, and Eloise's existence had played a significant role in that, Elizabeth no longer harbored any resentment toward her.
Eloise's dependence on Michael in the past might not have been love.
Louis spoke up. "Elizabeth, are you waiting for someone? You seem anxious."
Elizabeth was taken aback. She hadn't realized her emotions were so transparent.
She decided to be honest. "I'm waiting for Sarah. We had plans to meet for lunch, but she's very late, and I'm worried something happened. She isn't answering her phone."
"Have you contacted David?"
"Yeah, he's still at work."
Eloise suggested, "Maybe she went shopping? Sarah loves to shop."
Elizabeth shook her head. "No, even if she went shopping, she would answer my calls. Besides, she had something important to tell me today. She wouldn't have time to shop."
Louis said, "Elizabeth, call David again and ask him to check the home security cameras to see when she left."
Elizabeth quickly called David. "David, I'm sorry to bother you again."
"Elizabeth, it's fine. What's going on?"
"I still can't reach Sarah. Could you check the security cameras to see if she left the house?"
David's tone changed. "Okay, Elizabeth, don't worry. I'll check right now."
He hung up.
Elizabeth clutched her phone, anxiously waiting.
Louis and Eloise sat with her, offering support.
David called back soon, his voice urgent. "Elizabeth, I checked the cameras. Sarah left the house at eleven o'clock."
Elizabeth's heart sank. Nearly two hours had passed.
David continued quickly, "I'll check the car's GPS. My phone is connected to the car. I'll see where she went."
He called back shortly. "Elizabeth, Sarah's car is parked at the entrance to your neighborhood. It hasn't moved. Can you go to the property management office and check the gate's security footage? I'll be there soon."
Elizabeth quickly put on her shoes. "No problem, I'm heading there now. David, there's something you need to know. Sarah is pregnant. She wanted to share the news with me today. She planned to tell you tonight and celebrate together. She's very happy about your baby."
David was already too worried to speak.
Louis and Eloise accompanied Elizabeth to the security office.
The property manager, hearing their story, immediately pulled up the footage. The video showed Sarah parking her car at the gate at 11:35 AM.
As she got out, a black van sped up and stopped next to her car. The van quickly drove off, and Sarah disappeared from the frame.
Elizabeth felt faint, nearly collapsing. Louis caught her just in time. "Elizabeth!"
