Chapter 265 The Cage
Elizabeth clutched the dagger and crumpled onto the carpet. She whispered urgently to the family doctor, "Quick, stop the bleeding and bandage him up."
The family doctor scrambled to stop the bleeding with some medication and bandaged Michael as best as he could.
The ambulance was still nowhere in sight, and Elizabeth knew that every second counted.
With the manor perched on a hill, it would take a while for the ambulance to get there from the city.
She turned to the bodyguard and asked, "Does Michael have a helicopter here?"
A middle-aged man who looked like a butler answered, "Yes, it's on the helipad at the back hill, ready to go."
Hearing this, Elizabeth jumped to her feet and said, "Quick! Use the helicopter to get him to the nearest hospital. We can't waste any time!"
The middle-aged man rushed off, presumably to get the helicopter ready.
Soon, the sound of the helicopter filled the air.
Elizabeth directed the servants and bodyguards to lift Michael onto a stretcher, and the family doctor accompanied him onto the helicopter.
Elizabeth was about to go with them but was stopped by a bodyguard. "Ms. Jones, I'm sorry. Without Mr. Thomas's orders, I can't let you go. Please stay here."
Elizabeth had no choice but to turn back.
The servants led her to the guest room next door. It was a bit smaller than the previous one but had everything she needed.
After all the chaos, Elizabeth suddenly realized she was starving.
She rubbed her growling stomach and said to the maid at the door, "I'm hungry. Is there anything to eat?"
The maid immediately replied, "Yes, I'll bring something right away."
Elizabeth thought to herself, 'Michael might be cold-hearted, but his maids are really on top of things.'
Soon, the food arrived.
The small dining table outside was loaded with dishes, all of Elizabeth's favorites.
She looked at the spread in surprise and asked the smiling maid beside her, "Why so much? Are you sure I can finish all this?"
The maid respectfully answered, "Mr. Thomas instructed me years ago to remember your favorite foods so that when you came, you could enjoy them. It's an honor to serve you."
Elizabeth found it hard to believe and asked, "Years ago? Michael knew I would come?"
The maid replied, "Mr. Thomas set up this manor for vacations with you. He was so happy back then, and we all felt his joy."
Hearing this, Elizabeth looked down at the table of food, lost in thought.
Had her sudden departure back then hurt him deeply?
Was the pain he felt even greater than what he showed her?
Even though he had hurt her, the pain she caused him was just as deep.
Who could have imagined that the love nest Michael had meticulously arranged for them back then had now become the prison that confined her?
Michael probably didn't even expect it either. When he finally brought her here, there was no love left.
Elizabeth tasted a bit of each dish and then said to the maid, "The food is really good. But I'm full. Thank you."
The maid then instructed the other servants to clear the dishes and gently closed the door.
Elizabeth smiled bitterly. No matter how well she was treated, she was still a prisoner here, without freedom.
She tightened the bathrobe around her, sat on the bed, and habitually flipped through her phone. There was nothing worth looking at.
Suddenly, she noticed there was a signal in this room and quickly called Dean.
As soon as the call connected, Dean's voice burst through, "Elizabeth! Finally! What's going on? Why has your phone been off? Where are you? Are you safe?"
Elizabeth glanced at the door, stood up, walked to the window, and pulled the curtain open a crack to look outside.
She whispered, "Dean, I'm at a manor on the outskirts of the city. I'll send you the location. Can you get me out of here?"
Dean's voice was frantic. "Elizabeth! What's happening? You need rescuing? Are you in danger? Kidnapped?"
Elizabeth replied, "Michael brought me here and won't let me leave. There are guards outside. I can't get out on my own."
Dean said, "Hang tight, Elizabeth! I'm coming to get you!"
Elizabeth responded, "Okay."
Dean added, "Will Michael try to stop you? Doesn't matter. Even if he does, I won't let him. I'll get you out!"
Elizabeth said, "Michael's injured and in the hospital."
Dean responded, "Well, that's actually good news!"
Elizabeth felt a twinge of discomfort at his words.
Just then, there was a knock on the door. Elizabeth quickly said, "Let's keep in touch by text. Someone's here. I have to go."
After the knock, the door opened, and the maid walked in, holding a tray with a complete set of women's clothing.
The maid presented the clothes to Elizabeth and bowed respectfully.
Elizabeth pointed to herself and asked, "For me?"
The maid nodded and replied, "Yes. Ms. Jones, do you need help changing?"
Elizabeth quickly shook her head and responded, "No, I can do it myself. Just leave it there and go out."
The maid put down the clothes and left.
Elizabeth took off the bathrobe and changed into the clothes. They fit perfectly, clearly prepared on Michael's orders.
After changing, she sat back on the bed and sent the location to Dean. Then, feeling bored, she started browsing the news.
She didn't know how much time had passed when Dean called her again.
Dean said, "Elizabeth! I'm here! I brought the police to rescue you! Don't worry, we'll get you out safely!"
Elizabeth jumped up excitedly and ran to the window. She looked out into the yard.
There was a police car parked, lights flashing. Dean and the officers were negotiating with the manor's butler, while another officer took notes. The butler looked up at her window.
Soon, the door opened, and the maid walked in and said, "Ms. Jones, you can leave now."
Elizabeth hurriedly left and ran to Dean.
Dean opened his arms and said, "Elizabeth! You had me so worried!"
Elizabeth threw herself into his arms and responded, "I'm sorry for worrying you. How are Pearl and Nolan?"
Dean opened the car door for her and said, "Let's get out of here. We'll talk on the way."
Elizabeth quickly got in, and the police car sped away.
Elizabeth said, "Dean, tell me now. How are the kids? Were they scared and worried?"
Dean responded, "Of course they were worried and scared. You've been missing for so long. We were all very worried about you."
