Chapter 365 Seeking Forgiveness

Seeing that Michael was willing to talk to him, Matthew realized that Michael didn't completely hate him.

He quickly sat down next to Michael and said, trying to sound sincere, "Michael, I really messed up this time. How about we go together and apologize to Elizabeth?"

Michael glanced at him. "You can go by yourself. I'm not going."

Matthew was shocked. "Why not? Didn't you just get back?"

Michael's expression turned icy. "Matthew, are you spying on me? What I do is none of your business."

Matthew realized the seriousness of the accusation and quickly tried to calm him down.

"No, no, it's not like that. Michael, we've been friends for so long. Don't be so harsh on me."

Michael stood up. "Leave."

Matthew lay down on the couch, refusing to move. "I'm not leaving unless you forgive me."

Michael ignored him and headed upstairs.

Matthew jumped up, ran over, and hugged Michael's leg, squatting down and refusing to let go. "Michael, if you don't forgive me, I'm not letting go."

Michael frowned. "Matthew, I didn't know you could be so shameless. If you're this persistent, why don't you go bother Margaret instead of causing trouble here?"

Matthew pressed his face against Michael's pant leg. "I don't care what you say. If you want me to get up, you have to forgive me first."

Seeing Michael's impatient and angry face, he weakly added, "If you don't forgive me, at least let me stay and drink with you tonight."

Michael sighed heavily. "Get up first."

Matthew held on tighter. "No, I'm afraid you'll run away."

Michael shook his leg forcefully. "Get up."

He said impatiently, "Let's go drink!"

Matthew immediately let go and stood up, smiling. "Alright! You promised!"

Michael didn't expect Matthew to let go so suddenly. The force of his leg shake made him stumble, almost falling. Matthew quickly grabbed him to steady him.

Michael, furious, kicked him hard on the butt.

Matthew laughed. "You kicked my butt, so you can't stay mad at me now."

The servant had already fetched the wine from the cellar and was letting it breathe in a decanter.

Michael and Matthew sat on the couch.

Michael remained silent.

Matthew felt awkward just sitting there. He was naturally lively, and not talking was more painful than anything.

He gently swirled his wine glass and leaned closer to Michael. "Michael, when do you think we should go apologize to Elizabeth?"

Michael didn't want to discuss Elizabeth tonight. He picked up his glass, poured the wine, and downed it without a second thought.

It was as if he was punishing himself.

The wine in the decanter dwindled. Michael started seeing double.

He grabbed Matthew's shirt collar tightly, pointing a finger at his nose. "Matthew, I'm telling you, stop moving around. This is my house! Behave yourself!"

Matthew had also drunk quite a bit. He tried to lift his hand to knock Michael's hand away, but his arm failed him multiple times.

He shook his head and asked, "Weird, Michael, I can hear you, but why can't I see you?"

Michael, still gripping Matthew, almost lifted him off the ground. His nose nearly touched Matthew's, his voice slurred with drunkenness.

"Matthew, you messed everything up for me. Now, Elizabeth won't even look at me. But it's not all on you. I should've thought for myself, not just listened to others."

"She must feel so hurt and betrayed. When she needed me the most, I not only didn't stand by her, but I also made things worse."

He let go of Matthew, holding his face in his hands, shaking his head in pain. "I can't blame her for hating me. Her hatred for me has been building for a long time. I brought all of this upon myself."

The next morning, Dean had just opened the main house door when he heard the doorbell ring. Looking out, he saw Matthew at the gate.

So early in the morning, he had thought it would be Michael. After being turned away by Elizabeth yesterday, Michael had given up so easily. Truly unreliable!

Dean didn't open the gate for Matthew right away. Instead, he went back inside to ask Elizabeth.

Elizabeth was calmly having breakfast at the dining table.

With her pregnancy progressing, Dean had her stay home, handling most of the company affairs himself.

After all, the business with Innovatech Solutions abroad was usually managed by Dean anyway.

When Dean told Elizabeth that Matthew was here, she nonchalantly said, "If he wants to come in, let him in."

Dean was concerned. "He spoke so harshly to you before. Are you just going to let him in?"

Elizabeth continued sipping her soup. "He's here to apologize."

Dean was curious. "Elizabeth, will you forgive him?"

Elizabeth glanced at him. "You'll find out when you let him in."

Dean smiled and went to open the door for Matthew.

Matthew pushed open the wooden gate and walked into the yard.

Unlike his usual cheerful self, he wore a formal suit and walked in with his head down.

The servant led him into the main house. He changed his shoes at the door and saw Elizabeth in the dining room, walking straight towards her.

Elizabeth continued eating her breakfast unhurriedly.

Matthew, trying to hide his awkwardness, cleared his throat softly.

Elizabeth slowly chewed her food, swallowed, and said, "Mr. Anderson, if you're uncomfortable, you can leave. I'm still eating."

Matthew took a deep breath, adjusted his tie, stood up straight, and said seriously, "Ms. Jones, I misunderstood you before and spoke to you disrespectfully."

He paused, then continued, "I also misled Michael, forcing him to keep his distance from you. This is all my fault. I'm sorry! Please forgive me!"

Elizabeth looked up at him. "Mr. Anderson, do you think coming to my house to apologize shows me enough respect that I have to accept it?"

Matthew quickly waved his hands. "No! Ms. Jones, you misunderstood. I don't think that at all! This is entirely my fault."

"From start to finish, I was completely wrong! I not only hurt you but also dragged Michael into it. I'm a fool! Ms. Jones, please forgive me!"

Elizabeth looked at him. "Mr. Anderson, I accept your apology. You can leave now."
