Chapter 76 Trapped in Michael's Embrace

Downstairs, a fancy Rolls-Royce suddenly pulled up, catching the eye of some early risers.

Nancy came back with groceries. As she walked to the door, she noticed a bunch of people gathered around a sleek black car, whispering.

She walked past the car and gave it a quick glance. She felt like she had seen this black Rolls-Royce Phantom somewhere before.

Maybe some rich relative came to visit someone here. What was there to feel strange about it?

Nancy shrugged it off. She took the groceries, went up the elevator, opened her apartment door, and froze.

Just like last time, she opened the door to find Michael sitting in a wheelchair in the middle of the living room.

Nancy was startled, then asked, "Mr. Thomas? Why are you here? Elizabeth said you were sick. Is your fever gone? How's your leg? Does it hurt when you walk? Is it messing with your daily stuff?"

Michael hadn't expected Nancy to ask him so many questions out of concern all at once. He sat there, a bit overwhelmed, momentarily forgetting to respond.

Elizabeth had never seen Michael so flustered. She sat beside him and chuckled softly.

Perhaps hearing her laughter, Michael suddenly felt a bit more at ease. He propped himself up with his hands, struggled to stand from his wheelchair, and bowed to Nancy, saying, "I came here specifically to visit you, Mom."

This "Mom" startled both women in the room.

But neither Elizabeth nor Nancy could argue with it.

Nancy hurriedly let Michael sit down and poured him a glass of water. "Your leg's been hurt; you need to rest more. Have some water first."

Michael took the water and sipped it slowly.

An awkward silence filled the room.

Nancy seemed to remember something and asked, "Michael, there was a black Phantom downstairs. Is that your car?"

Michael nodded lightly. "Yeah, the driver brought me here in that car."

Elizabeth saw her messy hair in the living room mirror, blushed with embarrassment, greeted everyone quickly, and then ran into her room to tidy herself up.

Nancy watched Elizabeth leave the living room and carefully asked Michael, "Michael, I hope you can understand a mother's feelings. Your marriage with Elizabeth isn't exactly happy right now. What do you think about it? Elizabeth told me you wanted a divorce at first. From my perspective, Elizabeth seems to want a divorce. If you both decide to split, there's no need to drag it out. Prolonging it will only cause more pain for both of you. As Elizabeth's mom, I want to see her happy and also respect her decision."

Michael looked at Nancy with a determined gaze.

"I won't divorce Elizabeth no matter what. I believe her thoughts will change too." After saying this, Michael went silent.

Nancy didn't know what to say. Both of them remained silent.

This rental apartment was tiny, and the furniture was ancient. Michael, in his tailored suit, looked totally out of place here.

Nancy felt that continuing to sit like this would be too awkward. So she stood up and said, "Michael, have you eaten? I'll go make something to eat. You can chat with Elizabeth when she comes out."

Michael nodded lightly.

Nancy headed to the kitchen to cook.

Soon, the sound of the range hood filled the air.

Elizabeth came out of the bedroom.

Seeing only Michael in the living room, she asked, "Michael, where's my mom?"

Michael replied, "She went to the kitchen to make breakfast and asked me to talk to you."

Elizabeth rolled her eyes at him.

"What do I have to talk to you about?" she said, habitually picking up the glass on the coffee table and drinking water.

Michael stared at her without saying a word.

That was the glass Nancy had just handed him. He had just drunk from that glass.

Elizabeth had no clue.

Michael thought of something, lowered his head, and remained silent, but a slight smile appeared on his lips.

Elizabeth pushed open the kitchen door to check if Nancy needed any help.

Nancy quickly shooed her out, saying, "Get back. Take this chance to sit down and talk calmly."

Elizabeth, already in a bad mood from being woken up by Michael's knocking, didn't know what to talk about with him. So she turned to Michael and said, "You sit here. I'm going back to my room to catch up on sleep."

With that, she opened the bedroom door, went in, and lay down on the bed.

Suddenly, the mattress beside her sank.

Elizabeth turned her head and found Michael had followed her in and was sitting on her bed.

Elizabeth glared at him and asked, "Michael. Why did you follow me in?"

Michael stood up, took off his coat and shoes and got on the bed.

He lay down beside Elizabeth.

Elizabeth quickly moved away from him, shouting, "Michael! What are you doing?"

Michael reached out and firmly pulled Elizabeth's head to his broad chest. At that moment, Elizabeth felt her entire chest filled with Michael's presence. He held her tightly.

Elizabeth struggled, pushing against Michael's chest with all her strength, trying to distance herself from him. However, the difference in strength between men and women was evident.

Michael wrapped his right arm around Elizabeth's shoulder and grabbed her two flailing hands with his left hand, pressing them against his chest.

Michael closed his eyes, brought his lips close to Elizabeth's ear, and whispered, "Elizabeth, don't move. Remember? My leg is injured. If you keep moving, you'll tear my wound open"

Hearing this, Elizabeth immediately stopped struggling. She could only nestle in Michael's embrace, her hands resting against his chest.

Looking up at Michael's face, Elizabeth said, "Then loosen up a bit. You're too close."

Michael, as if not hearing her, held her even tighter.
