Chapter 452 Go Back and Get Married
Michael stormed into Nathan's office, kicking the door open with a loud bang.
Nathan had already been informed by his subordinates that Michael's team had dismantled the bomb he had planted.
Seeing Michael stride in, Nathan collapsed onto the couch.
"Mr. Thomas, is this how you knock when you enter someone else's territory?"
Michael sneered, "Nathan, you got two choices: jump outta here yourself, or I'll throw you out."
Nathan looked at him, "You know everything?"
Michael's face was cold, "For years, people have tried to take me out, but none have succeeded. You really think you're smart and ruthless enough to kill me?"
Nathan's face turned pale, and he remained motionless, "My plan failed. I admit defeat. Do what you want with me."
Michael wasn't letting him off the hook, "We have no personal grudge, Nathan. We even had some history together. Who put you up to this? Who wants me and Elizabeth dead?"
Nathan was unmoved, "I lost. It has nothing to do with anyone else."
Michael sat down, "Nathan, I want to know, was your friendliness towards me all an act? Just to lull me into a false sense of security so you could kill me one day?"
Nathan closed his eyes, "From the moment I chose this path, I no longer belonged to myself."
Michael frowned, "What about your wife and kids? Your friends?"
"Wife and kids can't be with you forever. Friends are just passing through."
"Nathan, you're insane."
Michael stood up and walked towards the door, "The police are on their way up the mountain. If you have anything to say, say it to them. If you don't want to talk, they'll make you."
Just as he was about to leave, Nathan spoke softly behind him, "You should be able to guess who it is. Who else in this world wants both you and Elizabeth dead?"
Michael didn't respond. He quickly went downstairs. Elizabeth was waiting for him.
Michael hurried over and hugged her, "Elizabeth, let's go home. Let's get married."
Elizabeth smiled and nodded, "Sure. Let's get married tomorrow."
After everything that had happened, Elizabeth just wanted to leave Morning Glow District as soon as possible.
She and Michael flew back to Aurora Bay. Michael then drove her back to Whispering Pines Estates.
It was already late at night.
He stood at the door, watching her go inside.
"Michael, aren't you coming in to see the kids?"
Michael shook his head gently, "It's too late. It would disturb their sleep. We'll have plenty of time later."
Elizabeth pulled her suitcase inside and nodded, "Alright. Get some rest."
The next morning, after breakfast, Susan cleared the dishes. Elizabeth called Nolan and Pearl over.
"Pearl, Nolan, wait a moment. Mommy has something to tell you."
Pearl and Nolan sat at the dining table, looking at her.
Elizabeth cleared her throat, suddenly feeling inexplicably nervous.
"Um, Pearl, Nolan, I..."
Pearl interrupted, "Mommy, are you going to marry Daddy?"
Elizabeth was a bit taken aback, "Pearl, how did you know?"
Pearl tilted her head, "I guessed. Dean said you've been with Daddy a lot these past few days. I figured you made up. You guys always fight and then make up, right?"
Elizabeth felt a bit embarrassed, "Yeah, that's right. Mommy and Daddy are getting married. I wanted to tell you."
Pearl nodded, "Congrats, Mommy."
Nolan nodded too, "Mommy, I wish you happiness!"
Elizabeth was stunned. She hadn't expected this reaction from the kids. She thought Nolan might at least object.
"Wait, you... agree?"
Pearl looked up, "Mommy, you're only happy when you're with Daddy. Even if you fight, even if he hurts you, you always forgive him. So why not just be together? That way, I won't feel awkward liking Daddy."
Elizabeth looked at Nolan.
Nolan's gaze was calm, "Mommy, as long as you're happy, I'm okay with it. I don't have any deep hatred for him. I just don't like him. As long as he doesn't hurt you again, I can accept him being with you."
Elizabeth opened her arms, "Thank you for your blessings."
They hugged her, "Mommy, we're off to school."
After the twins left for school, Elizabeth decided to personally tell Michael the good news. Nolan and Pearl had given their blessings. He would be thrilled.
She drove to Stellar Enterprises, unable to suppress her smile, feeling so happy she wanted to sing.
After all these years, they could finally be together without any reservations.
While waiting at a red light, Elizabeth noticed a familiar figure on the sidewalk.
Her eyes followed the figure until the cars behind her started honking.
She quickly drove off and parked.
Elizabeth got out of the car and hurried across the street, searching for the person.
She caught up, lightly tapping the person's shoulder.
"Mr. Reed."
The man turned around, "Dr. Jones?"
Elizabeth smiled, "It's really you! Mr. Reed, did you move here? Why didn't you call me?"
It was Quinn's brother, Philip Reed.
Philip was holding a breakfast bag, looking impatient, "Dr. Jones, I'm busy today. I don't have time to chat. Please leave."
Elizabeth quickened her pace to keep up with him, "Mr. Reed, can you at least tell me your address? I want to visit Quinn. How is he recovering after the surgery?"
Philip stopped, his face showing clear annoyance, "Dr. Jones, know your place. You're just a doctor my dad hired to treat my brother! Stay out of our business! You're meddling too much!"
Elizabeth was taken aback. Philip's attitude was worse than Jesse's.
What was wrong with their family? Why such hostility towards her?
"Mr. Reed, I mean no harm. I just want to follow up on Quinn's surgery. I need to know if it was successful."
Philip was extremely impatient, "He's just an idiot! Why do you care so much? No matter how badly you botched the surgery, my dad already paid you! Why are you so serious about it? My dad won't ask for the money back!"
Elizabeth was dumbfounded. She had never encountered such a family member. Not only stopping her from following up, but also calling his brother an "idiot."
Elizabeth couldn't help but wonder if Quinn was really their family member. If he was, why did they all treat him with such disdain?
