Chapter 143 Do you still have feelings for me?
Nolan glanced up and gave her a small smile.
Just a moment ago, Nolan heard Michael mention that he was Elizabeth's adopted kid, and it threw him for a loop.
But then he thought about it and figured Elizabeth must've lied to Michael on purpose. She had once told him that Michael hated kids.
Eloise, who had been quiet this whole time, suddenly spoke up, "Hold on a second."
When Elizabeth first walked into the room, Eloise had already recognized her.
But Michael's cold attitude towards Nolan scared her. She couldn't bring herself to tell him.
She was worried that if Michael found out it was Nolan who took her out of Global Horizons International School, who knew what he might do to Nolan?
Eloise clearly remembered that when she had a fever, it was Elizabeth who took care of her, applying cold compresses, giving her water, changing her clothes, and even performing surgery on her.
Yeah, that was right, she remembered. It was Elizabeth who did the surgery, not Calla.
Right now, Elizabeth had turned around and was staring intently at Eloise.
Eloise caught her gaze and suddenly didn't dare to keep talking.
If she went up to Elizabeth and acknowledged her, would Michael then find out that it was Nolan who took her out of Global Horizons International School?
Thinking of this, she glanced at Michael and obediently said, "She's really pretty. I like her a lot."
Hearing this, Elizabeth was momentarily at a loss for words.
She turned around, took Nolan's hand, and was about to keep walking out.
Suddenly, Michael stopped Elizabeth. "Wait a moment."
Elizabeth halted, turned around, and looked at him coldly, angrily saying, "Michael! Are you done yet? What do you want now?!"
Michael turned to Eloise and said, "Eloise, take Nolan to another room. I need to talk to Ms. Jones."
Eloise nodded obediently. She walked over to Nolan and reached out to take his hand, but Nolan coldly shook her off.
He met Elizabeth's gaze, her silent nod a signal. Nolan then agreed to leave.
The caretaker outside said to Eloise, "Ms. Thomas, let me take you to another room."
Eloise raised her right index finger, signaling the caretaker to be quiet.
She squatted down by the door, trying to listen to what Michael and Elizabeth were saying.
Nolan also stopped by the door, pressing his ear against it.
Inside the room, only Michael and Elizabeth remained, and a sudden, inexplicable tension seized Elizabeth. She took a deep breath.
Her hands unconsciously clenched into fists.
Michael stood behind her and took a step closer.
He took a nervous deep breath and suddenly felt a bit irritated.
He grabbed Elizabeth's shoulders and turned her body to face him.
Elizabeth was startled by his sudden action.
She glared at Michael and shouted, "Michael! What are you doing now?"
Michael looked at her and asked, "Nolan hasn't been at Global Horizons International School long, and when Eloise was there, she didn't interact with anyone. So, I suspect that Eloise met Nolan during the days she was away from Global Horizons International School. Elizabeth, am I right?"
"Maybe; I don't know." Elizabeth shrugged helplessly and spread her hands. "This question, I think you should ask your Eloise, not Nolan."
"Don't you care who Nolan usually meets?" Michael didn't believe her.
She replied, "A child is a complete and independent individual. They have the freedom to make friends and the right to refuse someone. If they want to tell me, I'd love to know. If they don't want to tell me, I won't force them. I respect their privacy and won't interfere in their social life."
Michael heard the underlying meaning in her words and angrily tightened his grip. "Elizabeth, can't you just talk to me properly?"
Elizabeth felt the pain in her shoulders and slapped his hand away harshly. "Talk to you properly? How? Are we equal right now? Did I come here willingly? If you hadn't brought Nolan here first, would I be in this room? Michael, get your facts straight before you ask me to talk to you properly."
Michael irritably scratched his head. Elizabeth always left him at a loss, and he looked at her helplessly. "I can apologize for that."
Elizabeth rarely saw him admit his mistakes and waved her hand dismissively. "Forget it. I don't want to argue with you. If there's nothing else, I'm leaving."
Seeing that she was about to leave again, Michael was about to grab her but suddenly remembered what she had just said and stopped his hand in mid-air.
So he quickly blocked her way.
"Do you have anything else to say?" Elizabeth raised an eyebrow.
Michael looked away awkwardly and asked, "You and your boyfriend, how far have you gotten?"
Elizabeth looked at him coldly. "What does that have to do with you? Do you still have feelings for me?"
Michael felt a bit embarrassed by her words, and his face flushed. "Elizabeth, don't overthink it! I heard you two have been living together for a while. He just came back from abroad and moved into your house. So you must have been living together abroad, right?"
Elizabeth was furious. "Michael, just because your personal life is a mess, you think everyone else is the same, don't you?"
He said, "Don't talk about me. Answer my question first. We just got divorced, and you already have a live-in boyfriend. Were you two together long before? Did you betray our marriage long ago?"
Elizabeth sneered. "What marriage? Do you not remember how we got together four years ago? Don't forget, I gave you the divorce papers four years ago. You refused to sign them. We never had a real marriage. What you're talking about doesn't exist. Besides, you can cheat, but I can't have a boyfriend?"
