Chapter 461 Identity Exposed
Michael listened to the stream of curses coming from Jesse's mouth and finally lost his patience, delivering a third kick.
Standing at the entrance of the mansion, he pressed Jesse's face into the ground with his foot, grinding his shoe into Jesse's cheek without mercy.
"You come here, trying to play daddy with me? Jesse, did you ever think about what happens to people who try to be my father?"
He crouched down slowly, his foot still pressing on Jesse's face, his voice cold and menacing like a vengeful spirit. "Since you used to be the Thomas family's driver, you must know Derek Thomas, right? Do you know how he died?"
Jesse was filled with regret. He shouldn't have tried to confront Michael in a place like this.
The hard gravel beneath him was digging into his face, but he couldn't lift his head.
He softened his tone. "Michael, listen to me. I used to be Derek's driver. You're my son. Shortly after you were born, Mary gave birth to twins. Derek often took out his frustrations on her and the kids, blaming them for his company's financial troubles."
"He fired me under some pretext, and I left the Thomas Villa. The twins were sick from birth, and Derek became even more irritable, beating them whenever he was home."
"Mary couldn't take it anymore and decided to take a risk. She found me and offered me a large sum of money each month to switch the kids. She left the sick Quinn with me and took you. Later, to avoid any trouble, she had me take the child abroad and never return."
Michael was about to press down harder when Philip suddenly shouted, "Stop! Michael! Do you believe that my dad and I will reveal your true identity to everyone? I heard you're about to get married to Elizabeth. What do you think she'll do when she finds out you're just a poor kid born to a barmaid in a back alley? Will she still love you? Will she still marry you?"
At the mention of Elizabeth's name, Michael froze.
She was his weakness.
Taking advantage of his hesitation, Jesse quickly broke free.
Philip grabbed Jesse's arm, shoved him into the car, and sped away.
Jesse, still not giving up, rolled down the window and shouted, "Why so heartless? I just wanted to ask for some money!"
Philip floored the gas pedal, driving out of the neighborhood.
Jesse glared at him. "Philip, where are you taking the car? Our home is that way!"
Philip kept his eyes on the road. "Dad, you're as clueless as ever. Michael is right behind us. Do you want him to find our address so quickly? I'm driving around the area before heading back."
Jesse chuckled. "That's my smart son."
"Dad, what's our next move?"
Jesse's voice turned sinister. "Michael won't be easy to deal with. I heard he's very obedient to his fiancée, Elizabeth. Since Elizabeth cares so much about Quinn, why not start with her?"
Philip agreed. "That Elizabeth, why do I feel like her concern for Quinn goes beyond a doctor-patient relationship?"
Jesse grinned wickedly. "Quinn may be a fool, but he's just as good-looking as Michael."
Philip shook his head. "No, it's not that."
Jesse's eyes narrowed. "I think she suspected something about my relationship with Michael the moment she saw me. I remember her expression."
Philip turned the car right. "She refused so many patients but chose to operate on Quinn. It must be because Quinn looks like Michael's foolish sister, right?"
Jesse nodded. "That's possible."
He took out his phone and opened his contacts. "I'm calling Elizabeth. I don't believe she won't care if Michael's true identity is exposed."
Elizabeth was driving when her phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID and saw it was Jesse.
Hadn't he said he didn't want to contact her?
She was curious about Quinn's condition anyway.
She pulled over and answered the call, speaking politely. "Mr. Reed, what can I do for you? Is something wrong with Quinn?"
Jesse's voice was surprisingly courteous. "Dr. Jones, are you available to talk?"
Elizabeth didn't know what he wanted, but she replied patiently. "Yes, I am. Go ahead."
Jesse chuckled. "Dr. Jones, you're about to get married, right? To Michael."
Jesse's voice made Elizabeth uncomfortable, like a snake slithering over her skin.
"Mr. Reed, that's my personal business. Didn't you say we should keep things professional, that we are just in a doctor-patient relationship?"
In other words, mind your own business.
Jesse scoffed. "Dr. Jones, don't think I don't know what you're up to. Why are you treating Quinn? Isn't it because of Michael's sister?"
Elizabeth's heart skipped a beat.
Jesse had figured it out?
He knew about Eloise?
What else did he know?
Jesse seemed to have a hold on her secret. "Dr. Jones, are your three children all Michael's?"
Elizabeth's patience was wearing thin. "Mr. Reed, I think your question is out of line. I refuse to answer."
Jesse sneered. "So, it's okay for you to investigate me, but not for me to investigate you?"
Elizabeth's chest heaved with anger, but she controlled it.
Jesse was clearly prepared. His target was Michael.
She took a deep breath and calmed down. "Jesse, what's your goal?"
Jesse laughed arrogantly. "I knew you'd be easier to talk to. Michael is such an uncivilized bastard!"
Elizabeth's heart tightened. He had already confronted Michael?
"Jesse, what did you want with Michael?"
"What do you think? I wanted money! He has so much, what's wrong with giving me some? It's not like he'll go broke!"
Elizabeth was furious just hearing this. She could only imagine how Michael, who was easily angered and unstable, must have felt.
She was worried about him. What had Jesse told him?
Her tone turned harsh. "Jesse, what did you say to him?"
Jesse laughed, like a rat in a sewer. "Dr. Jones, you really care about him, don't you? Feeling sorry for him? Don't worry. I didn't say much. I just told Michael he's my son! And that his mother wasn't the noble Mrs. Thomas, but a barmaid who slept around!"
