Chapter 562 The Ex

Michael took a deep breath. "Look, whether or not I'm Elizabeth's ex, I gotta warn you, Gerald's not as easy to handle as you think. You won't just fail to get revenge, you might end up dead."

The woman's eyes were determined. "Thanks, Mr. Thomas, but this is my problem. I don't need your help."

She wiped her tears and walked away with purpose.

Inside the hospital room, Elizabeth anxiously watched the door. She had just had surgery and couldn't move around much.

As soon as she saw Michael, she asked urgently, "Where's Rowan Blair?"

Michael looked confused.

Elizabeth quickly clarified, "Glenn's fiancée."

Michael glanced at the door. "She just left."

Elizabeth was on the verge of tears. "How could you let Rowan leave like that? She might do something crazy!"

Michael sighed. "She has her own plans. I couldn't stop her."

He walked over to Elizabeth's bedside.

She grabbed his hand. "Michael, you have to stop Rowan! I think she's going to confront Gerald for revenge! Glenn is already dead. I don't want her to get hurt too."

Michael spoke seriously. "I'll do my best to keep her safe."

Tears welled up in Elizabeth's eyes. "I've already failed Glenn. I can't let Rowan go to her death. I know it's difficult."

Michael held her hand. "Elizabeth, you need to rest. Don't worry about Rowan. She's an adult and can make her own choices. We can only advise her, not decide for her."

Elizabeth closed her eyes, tears streaming down her face. "I know, I just feel like I'm always dragging everyone down."

Michael sat beside her. "Elizabeth, don't think that way! This is Gerald's fault! He's the one who did all this! Seeing you in pain is exactly what he wants! Don't let him win!"

Elizabeth turned her head away.

Michael gently turned her face back and wiped her tears. "Elizabeth, it's not safe here. If you stay, who knows what Gerald will do next. I need to get you out of here as soon as possible."

This time, Elizabeth didn't argue. She nodded through her tears. "Okay. I want to leave. I miss the kids."

"Don't go home yet. Go to Valoria first. They have better neurology treatments there."

"Alright. I'll go see Louis. And I'll check on Eloise and Quinn too."

Michael froze at the mention of Eloise's name.

His expression turned complex. "Eloise? But she..."

Elizabeth held his hand. "Michael, I told you, Eloise is still alive. She hid her whereabouts because she was very sick and needed a kidney transplant to survive. I transferred your shares in Stellar Enterprises to Quinn temporarily to get him away from your brother and Anthony. Quinn donated his kidney to Eloise. She's recovered now. Soon, Quinn will return your shares. Everything will be back to normal. Michael, you won't lose anything. The shares, Eloise, the kids, and me, we're all here."

Michael's voice trembled. "Eloise is alive? She's recovered?"

Elizabeth nodded, then quickly covered her head and winced.

Michael asked anxiously, "Is your head hurting again?"

Elizabeth closed her eyes in response.

"Don't move around too much. Once you're better, you can tell me everything."

Elizabeth opened her eyes. "Alright. You'll be so happy when you see Eloise."

"Okay. You rest now. I'm going to see Gerald."

"Alright."

In the office of the technical director at the Jones Group in Aurora Bay.

Dean sat at his desk, pulling at his hair. Daniel walked in.

"Dean, if you keep that up, you'll go bald."

"Daniel, I'm at my wit's end! That wretched Jennifer is driving me to the edge!"

"Is she really that tough?"

"It's not that she's tough! She's despicable! Her tech team is stealing The Jones Group's technology!"

Daniel looked worried. "How are you going to fight back?"

"The Jones Group's only advantage is our latest product, which hasn't been compromised yet."

Daniel frowned. "Jennifer's getting your core tech without much investment. She'll definitely start a price war. You have costs to cover; you can't outlast her!"

Dean pulled at his hair again. "That's exactly what's driving me crazy! We barely have any orders, and we can't even make payroll. Most of The Jones Group's employees are veterans who fought alongside Elizabeth! I can't just lay them off! I'm losing my mind!"

Daniel walked over and massaged his temples. "Don't stress. We'll figure something out. If we can't, there's always my boss and your boss. Why are you worrying so much?"

Dean grabbed his hand and pulled him closer, but avoided eye contact. "Daniel, there's something I need to tell you, but you can't get mad."

Daniel looked puzzled. "Why would I get mad?"

Dean lowered his head. "The crisis at The Jones Group is partly my fault."

Daniel laughed.

"The Jones Group isn't my company."

"The outside help Jennifer hired is my ex."

They spoke simultaneously.

Daniel paused. "Your hacker ex? The one who abandoned you when you were sick, leaving you for dead?"

Dean nodded slightly. "Yes, him."

Daniel was furious. "If I knew how to hack, I'd destroy him for you!"

Dean tested the waters. "You're not mad at me?"

Daniel glared. "Why would I be mad at you? It's not your fault!"

Dean hugged him tightly. "Daniel! You're amazing! I really like you!"

Daniel pushed him away. "This is your office! At your company! Watch your image!"

Dean hugged him again, laughing and crying. "I don't care about my image! I just want you!"

Daniel's face turned red. "Stop it!"

Dean let go and spoke seriously. "When he abandoned me, it was like dying. If Elizabeth hadn't saved me, I'd be dead by now! Now he's back to hurt me and Elizabeth. I want to kill him!"

Daniel pouted. "You can't do that! Murder is illegal, and you'll go to jail!"

He pulled Dean up. "Instead of brooding here, let's go have a drink!"

Dean looked at him deeply, as if making a decision. "Alright! Let's go!"

Daniel smiled. "Maybe by the time we're done, your savior will have arrived."
