Chapter 483 All for You
Michael's face was etched with pain. "Elizabeth, Eloise has been a part of my life for nearly thirty years. I can't just ignore her disappearance because of something Louis said. That would be irresponsible to both her and myself. Eloise is a grown woman; she couldn't have just vanished without a trace. If she's alive, I need to see her. If she's dead, I need to see her body."
Mentioning Louis, his tone was filled with resentment. "Eloise isn't mentally sound. Louis, an educated adult, took her away. Not calling the police was the biggest mercy I could offer him. I may not hate him, but I will never forgive him."
Elizabeth gently stroked his hand. "Michael, Louis had no choice at the time. If Eloise hadn't pressured him, I believe he wouldn't have taken her blood. I've known him for years; he's always been kind and considerate. He's never been selfish."
Michael's eyes showed his anguish. "Elizabeth, are you saying that my anger towards him is narrow-minded? That I'm in the wrong? Is that what you think?"
Elizabeth's mouth fell open. How could he think that?
This is why she avoided discussing this topic with Michael. It was impossible to have a calm conversation about it.
She tried to comfort him. "You're overthinking it. I didn't mean that. Louis did handle things poorly."
Michael lowered his head. "I got too emotional."
Elizabeth felt a headache coming on. It was clear that mentioning Louis and Eloise to Michael would only lead to conflict. The more they talked about it, the more likely they were to argue.
She was on her honeymoon and didn't want to fight with him.
But how could she tell him that Eloise's health was deteriorating and she urgently needed a kidney transplant?
She decided to put that problem aside for now.
She pushed Michael out of the room. "I need to change. Mr. Thomas, please step out."
Caught off guard, Michael was pushed out and could only shake his head with a wry smile.
"It's not like I haven't seen it before. There's no part of your skin I haven't touched."
Hearing this, Elizabeth turned and glared at him.
Michael immediately raised his hands in surrender. "Alright, respecting women's rights. I won't look."
He sat on the sofa outside and opened his phone to check the news back home.
Elizabeth gently closed the door. She took out the dress she planned to wear that night, laid it on the bed, and quickly messaged Louis.
[Louie, we need to meet and talk. Michael still gets very emotional when Eloise is mentioned. If he finds out she's with you and seriously ill, who knows what he'll do. I can't take that risk.]
Louis seemed to have been waiting for her message.
He replied immediately: [Alright. The pharmacy you visited today is one of my investments. If you can get away from Michael, go there and give your name to the staff. I'll come right over.]
Elizabeth thought, so the familiar figure she saw at the pharmacy was indeed Louis! No wonder he disappeared when she entered. Since he owned the place, it was easy for him to hide.
Elizabeth changed into her dress and went downstairs with Michael to take a walk on the beach.
The sun had already set, leaving a red glow in the west, reflecting brilliantly on the sea.
They walked slowly on the beach. The sand was soft and cool, having lost the warmth of the day.
The sea breeze gently stirred the water, which lapped softly at the shore.
Elizabeth held onto Michael's arm, leaning lightly against him.
The night at the beach was gentle and quiet. Neither of them wanted to break the peaceful atmosphere, so they walked in silence.
After walking a considerable distance, Michael stopped and asked Elizabeth softly, "Are you tired? Do you need me to carry you?"
Elizabeth shook her head lightly. "I'm not tired. Are you? Should we head back?"
Michael spoke gently. "I'm not tired. I just worry that your feet might hurt after walking so long."
Elizabeth, preoccupied with her thoughts, didn't want to go back so soon. She suggested, "How about we stay here tonight and watch the sunrise?"
Michael laughed. "We can get to the beach from our room in less than ten minutes. There's no need to stay out here all night; it could be dangerous."
Elizabeth realized her suggestion was a bit silly and felt embarrassed. "Oh. Then let's go back."
Seeing her downcast expression, Michael thought she was tired but didn't want to admit it. He crouched down in front of her and said, "Hop on, I'll carry you back."
Elizabeth knew he must be tired too. She stood still. "No need, it's just a short walk. We'll be back in no time."
Michael remained where he was, smiling. "You said it yourself, it's just a short walk. Come on, you only get this treatment for a few days. Once we're back home, my back belongs to Pearl."
Elizabeth, hearing this, climbed onto his back without hesitation. "I just thought it might be a bit unseemly since I'm wearing a dress tonight."
"It's fine. Your dress is loose and long; there's nothing unseemly about it."
Elizabeth lay on his back, her arms gently around his neck, her cheek resting on his shoulder.
Michael carried her, walking slowly and steadily.
The sea breeze grew softer, and the night became even quieter.
Elizabeth suddenly asked softly, "Michael, do you love me?"
Michael chuckled. "Why ask that all of a sudden? If I didn't love you, why would I agree to marry you?"
Elizabeth was clearly unsatisfied with this answer. "You didn't love Margaret, but you agreed to marry her."
Michael sighed. "Can we not talk about the past? I've explained it before; that was just a temporary measure. Besides, I never actually married her."
Elizabeth felt a bit down. "But our wedding wasn't complete either. Did you marry me just as a temporary measure too? Or was it just for the kids?"
Michael's expression turned serious. "Elizabeth, you are the woman I love most in this world, the only one I want to marry. Not just because we have kids together, but because I want to spend the rest of my life with you."
Elizabeth still wasn't satisfied. "But I still feel uneasy. You did give up on me once before."
Michael glanced back at her. "What will it take to make you feel secure? If my love isn't enough, do you want all my assets and secrets too?"
