Chapter 113 In His Eyes, She Was Nothing

Not only would Michael never fall in love with her, but he had just rejected her just now. It was worse than ever.

Margaret forced a bitter smile. "Alright, Michael. I get it. I'll keep my distance at work. But..." she hesitated, "are you seeing Calla for some medical help?"

Michael's look was ice-cold. "Margaret, that's none of your business."

Margaret panicked, worried that the hard-earned progress would revert to square one. "I'm sorry, Michael. I won't mess up again."

"If you do," Michael's voice was chilling, "you can go back abroad and never come near Stellar Enterprises again."

Margaret left, heartbroken.

Susan watched her leave, confused. Margaret had come in all high-spirited, and Susan thought Michael had finally accepted her. But nope, he still didn't like her. Good news for Elizabeth, though.

Michael's phone rang.

At the sight of Elizabeth's number, Michael's heart skipped a beat. He remembered their agreement from last night.

He picked up, ready to face her anger. "I'm sorry, I had something important this morning and couldn't call you."

His quick apology left Elizabeth speechless.

Michael went on, "If my memory serves me well, today's the weekend. City Hall's closed, so we can't do the divorce papers."

Elizabeth closed her eyes and nodded. "Right. We can't."

Michael added, "Okay then, tomorrow's Monday. At 10:00 AM, my lawyer will contact you. I've given him full authority to handle our divorce."

Elizabeth just said, "Okay."

After hanging up the phone, Elizabeth stood at the entrance of City Hall. The sun was shining brightly, but she felt cold. She sat down on a bench. Four years had passed, and Michael truly no longer cared about her. He could even entrust the matter of their divorce to a lawyer.

He had said he would only divorce if he met her in person. Now it seemed that was just a way to toy with her. He was just getting back at her for leaving him back then.

She thought he still wanted to see her, but it turned out her thoughts were so ridiculous.

If he really cared, how could he not contact her even once in four years?

Elizabeth hugged herself, curling up on the bench, her eyes brimming with tears.

In her mind, two little figures were constantly pulling at each other. One longed to finalize the divorce proceedings as soon as possible, while the other criticized Michael's behavior, as if accusing him of cowardice for avoiding the divorce with her.

Suddenly, her phone rang. Lost in her sorrow, Elizabeth snapped back to reality.

She sat up, took out her phone, and answered.

It was Louis. "Elizabeth, didn't I tell you before? Michael is looking for you."

Elizabeth, in low spirits, replied, "Yeah, and?"

Louis continued, "I just heard some news. Calla's back in the country. She's contacted Michael. Word is, Michael paid a lot to bring her back. Do you know what that means?"

Elizabeth was still caught up in her earlier sadness and hadn't snapped out of it. "What does it mean?"

Louis sounded worried. "Elizabeth, what's up with you today? You sound off. Are you okay? Have you been crying?"

Elizabeth took a gasp and quickly changed her tone. "No, I haven't. It's just getting colder here, and I might've caught a chill because I didn't dress warmly enough."

Worried, Louis reminded her, "Take care of yourself."

Elizabeth then asked, "I know, Louis. What were you saying just now?"

Louis got back on track. "Oh, right. Michael paid a lot of money to bring Calla back and set her up somewhere. I'm not sure who he wants her to treat, but it must be someone really important to him. What I wanted to say is, Michael thinks he found the right person, but Calla can't help him at all. The person he needs can only be you or Ms. Johnson. Unfortunately, Ms. Johnson is no longer around. The only person who can perform such delicate surgery is you. But since he found Calla, he probably won't bother you for a while."

Elizabeth responded indifferently, "Yeah. Thanks for telling me."

Louis said, "I've told you before, no need for formalities between us. Alright, contact me if you need anything. I'll hang up now."

Elizabeth said, "Goodbye, Louis."

Elizabeth hung up and continued to sit on the bench, lost in thought.

Why was Michael so desperate to find her? Who did he want her to perform brain surgery on? Who was so important to him that he would spend a fortune?

Suddenly, Elizabeth thought of someone. The woman who only existed in Michael's phone and computer gallery. The woman who always wore a pink princess dress.

Why would an adult woman always wear a pink princess dress? Could it be that she had a brain injury?

So, Michael was seeking medical help for her.

She felt a pang of regret, wondering why she hadn't given deeper thought to this matter before.

Elizabeth was now certain that the person Michael wanted to help was that woman.

Elizabeth stood up, took a deep breath, pulled out a tissue from her bag, and wiped her tears fiercely. She had been crying for Michael here, but he was already busy with another woman. No wonder he didn't come to see her.

It was because he had found hope for the woman he loved. So, Elizabeth meant nothing to him.

Elizabeth straightened her back, walked to her car, opened the door, and got in.

She tried to calm her emotions and drove home. She told herself never to cry for that jerk again.

At the Thomas Estate, after lunch, Anthony was playing games on his phone.

Since he wasn't married and didn't have a formal job, he still lived with his parents. He was engrossed in his game when his room door was pounded on.

Before Anthony could open the door, William had already burst in.

Seeing Anthony still playing games, William immediately got angry.

He kicked Anthony hard on the butt. "You lazy bum!"
