Chapter 132 Michael's Private Life is Too Messy
After a while, Michael still responded to her with that same cold tone, "My answer hasn't changed since four years ago. Not one bit."
Elizabeth just sat there, feeling crushed. She thought, 'What am I expecting? Four years ago, he didn't want me to have his child. Four years later, did I really wish he would have changed?'
Elizabeth let out a bitter laugh. What was she expecting?
She got up with her coffee cup and went back to the table with the company execs.
As Michael was about to reach the door, his phone rang.
Elizabeth could vaguely hear his gentle voice.
"Yes, I'm not in the office. I'm at a café right now. You want to meet? Why not go to the Thomas Villa? Alright, I'll send you the address. You're nearby? Okay, I'll wait for you."
Elizabeth guessed that the person on the other end of the call wasn't Eloise.
If it were Eloise, his expression would probably be much softer.
However, his current expression could already be considered friendly.
She wondered who the person on the other end of the call was.
The answer was soon revealed.
Calla, with her perfect makeup and a long dress, walked in.
She looked around the café, locked eyes on Michael, and walked straight towards him.
Elizabeth thought the one on the other end of the phone must be Calla.
Judging by Michael's tone on the phone, it seemed he valued Calla quite a bit.
Elizabeth wondered if this regard had anything to do with Eloise.
Louis had said that Michael was looking for Emily's student to help Eloise.
So, Calla's presence by Michael's side was just to perform surgery on Eloise.
However, there was a subtle undercurrent in Calla's attitude towards Michael, beyond a simple doctor-patient family relationship, as evidenced by their interaction today.
What doctor would specifically ask a patient's family member out for coffee and dress so beautifully?
Calla's intention to seduce was a bit too blatant.
Elizabeth finished her coffee in one gulp.
The finance manager across from her looked at her in surprise. "Ms. Jones, are you in a hurry?"
Elizabeth snapped back to reality. "I was just a bit thirsty."
The finance manager immediately called out loudly, "Excuse me, more coffee, please."
Elizabeth felt a bit embarrassed.
The finance manager's voice was so loud that Calla looked over.
At the table, there was a group of people, most of whom were not young. Among them, Elizabeth stood out, and Calla saw her.
She lowered her head, deep in thought.
Michael asked her gentle, "Why did you suddenly think of asking me out for coffee today? And why are you dressed like this? I almost didn't recognize you."
Calla gave him a bright smile. "Don't I look good?"
Michael replied honestly, "No. It's just that I'm used to seeing you in a suit. I've never seen you in a dress."
"Yeah, I usually wear a suit and isolation gown for work. But when I'm meeting friends or in my leisure time, I still like to wear dresses. After all, I'm a woman," She stood up and said to Michael, "Mr. Thomas, it's a bit stuffy here. Shall we go somewhere else?"
Michael didn't think much of it. He stood up, ready to pay the bill.
As they walked past Elizabeth's table, Calla leaned in close to Michael and whispered, "Is Eloise's condition stable now?"
Mentioning Eloise finally brought a smile to Michael's face. "Yeah. She's doing much better. She's back with me at the Thomas Villa. I really have to thank you. Thanks a lot for the surgery."
Calla suddenly hugged him with excitement. "Mr. Thomas, hearing about the significant improvement in Eloise's health, I'm genuinely happy for her and relieved for you. I'm glad I could help."
After saying this, she quickly let go of Michael and turned to walk towards the café door.
Michael, caught off guard, glanced over at Elizabeth's table.
Seeing that she was still chatting with the executives, not paying any attention to him, he let out a sigh of relief. He then finished paying the bill and walked towards the café door.
At this moment, Elizabeth's heart was filled with an indescribable bitterness.
Her attention, though seemingly focused on the executives, was secretly drawn to Michael, her peripheral vision tracking his every move.
The sight of Michael and Calla locked in a warm embrace sent a tremor through her. Her fingers tightened instinctively around the coffee cup, the heat radiating through her palms. 'Were they already so familiar?' the question echoed in her mind. Their hug, so casual in public, made her stomach twist. 'What about at home? What would it be like then, in front of Eloise?'
She used to think Michael was bad, but she didn't realize he could be this bad. He'd already found Eloise – did he still want to be with Calla?
Elizabeth thought maliciously, let the three of them live together in the Thomas Villa! She wouldn't get involved!
Michael's private life was too messy!
Luckily, she chose to divorce!
Outside the café, the driver opened the car door for Michael and Calla.
The two got in the car.
Michael said, "Dr. Griffin, now that we're alone, let's talk about your compensation."
Calla said, "You've seen Eloise. Even with the progress, she's still... well, she's still a long way from normal. We have to face the reality that she may never be."
Michael replied, "I know. But her current state has already far exceeded my expectations."
Calla said nervously, "No. This is far from enough. She can get even better. But it will require long-term treatment and future surgeries."
His eyes were filled with hopeful light. "Can Eloise have a chance to become like a normal person?"
Calla replied, "I can't give you a definite answer. Because I'm not sure if you'll let me be fully responsible for Eloise's future treatment."
He then asked, "You came back this time for a vacation, right?"
"Yeah. My work abroad doesn't have fixed holidays," she replied.
Michael asked, "Have you ever considered working and settling down in the country?"
Calla said, "If the salary is satisfactory, it doesn't matter where I work."
Michael's hope reignited. "Would you consider working for me long-term? I can offer you a salary that will satisfy you."
Calla looked conflicted. "Mr. Thomas, although Eloise's treatment is long-term, there will eventually be a day when she fully recovers. Right now, all my focus is on Eloise. But it's a question I need to think about. Where will my path lead once she has made a full recovery?"
