Chapter 210 It's All Because of That Person

Elizabeth was burying herself under the covers.

Dean walked in. "Elizabeth, what are you doing? Aren't you feeling suffocated?" he asked.

He helped her pull the covers down a bit and immediately noticed the tear stains on her face. "Elizabeth, have you been crying?"

Elizabeth stayed silent.

Dean raised his voice. "Is it Michael bullying you again? I'm going to deal with him!"

Elizabeth quickly reached out and grabbed him. "Dean."

Dean turned around and leaned on her hospital bed. "Elizabeth, what's wrong with your voice?"

Elizabeth pouted. "Dean, my throat hurts."

Dean sighed. "Your throat hurts, and you're crying over that?"

He patted her shoulder. "Wait here. I'll go find a doctor to get you some painkillers."

After Elizabeth finished her IV, Dean accompanied her to see the doctor.

The doctor prescribed some oral medication for her to take at home on a regular schedule. He also advised her to get plenty of rest and keep warm.

Elizabeth returned home. Nancy fussed over her again.

She pulled Elizabeth to sit on the sofa.

"When Michael found out you were sick, he immediately carried you off with the blanket. I can tell he still cares about you. What about you? Elizabeth, do you still care about him?" she asked.

Elizabeth lowered her head and said nothing.

Her mind was in turmoil.

Nancy said, "Elizabeth, you still care about him, don't you?"

Elizabeth covered her face.

Yes. Although she didn't want to admit it, it was true. She still thought about him and cared about him.

"Mom, I feel really sad," Elizabeth said.

Nancy pulled her close, hugging her and whispering gently in her ear, "Elizabeth, I know you divorced him to protect Nolan and Pearl. Since you chose this path, you both should stay out of each other's lives. I heard he already has a girlfriend. You need to keep your distance and avoid getting tangled in his complicated relationships. Otherwise, you might end up getting hurt."

Elizabeth lay in Nancy's arms and nodded gently. "Mom, I understand."

Nancy said, "Elizabeth, I know you're very sad right now. But time is the best healer. One day, you'll meet someone better, and all these entanglements will seem insignificant."

Elizabeth asked herself inwardly, 'Will I? Michael, will I forget you? Will you forget me one day?'

Three days later at the Jones Group, Dean came looking for Elizabeth. "Elizabeth, has the sales department come to you for a signature? It's about a big order from Stellar Enterprises."

Elizabeth looked up and replied, "Not yet. When did we start doing business with Stellar Enterprises?"

Dean said, "Just now. Michael ordered five thousand domestic robots from the Jones Group."

Elizabeth was shocked. "What did you say, Dean? Five thousand? Is Michael out of his mind? Why would he order so many domestic robots?"

Dean said, "I heard from Daniel that Christmas is coming, and Michael wants to give his employees Christmas gifts."

"Christmas gifts of domestic robots? Michael is really generous." Elizabeth once again thought Stellar Enterprises had great employee benefits.

"The problem now is that they require the five thousand robots to be delivered on time by December 20th." Dean was a bit worried.

"The timeline is indeed tight," Elizabeth said with a frown.

Dean hesitated and said, "Elizabeth, why don't you call Michael and ask him to extend the deadline a bit?"

Elizabeth thought for a moment and dialed the phone number for the president's office at Stellar Enterprises. "Mr. Thomas, hello! This is Elizabeth from the Jones Group."

"Ms. Jones, hello!"

Dean heard this and rolled his eyes.

In the president's office at Stellar Enterprises, Daniel internally rolled his eyes at Michael's words.

These two were at it again.

Elizabeth said, "Mr. Thomas, here's the deal: Our company is pretty new, and our equipment and workforce are limited. Meeting the deadline to assemble and inspect the batch of domestic robots your company ordered before Christmas is really tough. But we can source the products from abroad. I can assure you of the quality, but the price of our overseas products is higher than domestic ones because, although the core technology is the same, the raw material costs differ. Mr. Thomas, can you accept this?"

Michael hadn't answered yet.

Elizabeth continued, "Mr. Thomas, although the price of sourcing from abroad is higher, the price on our contract will still be the domestic price, and it won't increase. You can rest assured about that."

Michael's voice came through, cold as ice, "No need. The original overseas price is fine."

Daniel, who was waiting in his office, was stunned. Elizabeth had proactively offered to lower the price, and Michael actually refused?

Was he just throwing money away? Or maybe Michael was worried that Elizabeth wouldn't have any business and the Jones Group would go bankrupt again?

So, he was essentially giving money to Elizabeth? It seemed Michael still cared about Elizabeth.

That afternoon, Elizabeth drove to Global Horizons International School to pick up Nolan at dismissal time.

She held Nolan's hand as they walked to the parking lot. Elizabeth reached the car and was about to open the door when Nolan gently tugged at her.

"What's wrong, Nolan?" Elizabeth asked.

She followed Nolan's gaze and saw Michael and Eloise. Michael had a blank expression on his face. Eloise looked at Nolan with a hesitant expression.

Elizabeth looked down at Nolan and said, "Nolan, get in the car."

The Range Rover started and left the parking lot.

Michael also helped Eloise into the car and instructed the driver, "Let's go."

He turned his head and asked gently, "Eloise, your birthday is coming up. What gift would you like?"

Eloise said, "Michael, can I have a gift?"

Michael nodded. "As long as I can manage it."

Eloise lowered her head. Michael was puzzled. "What's wrong? Is the birthday gift you want hard to get?"

Eloise shook her head. "No. You might not be happy about it."

Michael said, "Tell me. It might not be as bad as you think."

Eloise's face showed a hopeful expression. "I want Nolan to spend my birthday with me."

Michael didn't expect Eloise to like Nolan this much. He didn't want to crush her spirit, but he was afraid she might get her hopes up too high.

He said, "Even if Nolan comes to your birthday, he won't wish you well. Do you still want him to come?"

Eloise's disappointment was evident. "Michael, he doesn't like me. Am I that annoying?"

Michael's heart ached. He took Eloise's hand. "No, Eloise. He dislikes me, so he dislikes the people around me, and that's why he treats you like this. Don't overthink it."

Eloise looked at him. "Michael, I think you're great. You're the best brother in the world."

"Eloise, you're the person I care about most in this world. I don't care about anyone else," Michael said.

Eloise rested her head on Michael's shoulder. Michael fell into his memories.

Eloise's mental illness, his own violent outbursts—it was all because of that person, the one who should have died long ago.

Hatred filled Michael's eyes. Because of that person, Eloise became like this. And he could never love his own child or enjoy family happiness.
