Chapter 241 Adultery

Calla was quiet on the other end of the line for a moment.

Then she asked softly, "Michael, are you doubting me? Do you think I'm lying to you?"

Michael was caught off guard.

He replied, "No, not at all. It's just that Eloise being in such a deep sleep every day seems off. I'm worried and I want her to wake up soon."

Calla responded, "Michael, even if you doubt me, I don't mind. I'm doing my best to treat Eloise. If you think I'm not the right person for the job, you can hire someone else. I won't object."

Michael couldn't see Calla's face, but he could hear the hurt in her voice.

He said, "Calla, don't take it personally. Seeing Eloise like this has me on edge. I'm sorry."

At the Thomas family mansion, Calla hung up the phone and stood up.

Anthony, who was beside her, asked, "Did Michael question you?"

Calla nodded. "Yeah. But I'll clear up his doubts."

Anthony looked at her and said, "You always know what to do."

Calla pushed Anthony away as he got closer. "I'm not in the mood right now. I still have to deal with Michael's calls. Don't touch me. I need some time alone."

Anthony stood behind her and gently hugged her. He bent down slightly, his face close to hers.

"Didn't you agree to my grandmother's request to move here to be closer to me?" he said.

Calla glanced at the closed door. "You shouldn't be so obvious. What if Michael's people are around?"

Seeing Calla's expression soften, Anthony immediately turned her around, pinned her against the wall, and kissed her.

Calla pretended to push him away. "Don't be so bold. Mrs. Thomas is still downstairs!"

Anthony smiled at her. "My grandmother left a while ago."

"Where did she go?" Calla asked.

"She went to Michael's place to see Eloise. I saw her to the gate and watched as the driver took her away." He hugged Calla, bringing his lips close to her ear and speaking in a husky voice, "Any other questions?"

Calla placed her hand on Anthony's waist, and he immediately kissed her passionately.

His right hand eagerly slipped into her underwear, squeezing hard.

Under his touch, Calla kept moaning.

At the Thomas Villa, Mary approached Eloise's bedside and gently called, "Eloise."

Eloise opened her eyes and stared blankly at Mary.

Mary was shocked. She turned to Michael and asked, "What's wrong with Eloise? It's been several days since the surgery. Why is she still so out of it?"

Michael walked over. "I asked Calla. She said it's normal and that Eloise just needs more time to recover."

Mary nodded. "As long as it's normal. Our poor Eloise has been so confused for so many years. Now she finally has a chance to get better, all thanks to Calla."

She looked at Michael and said, "Michael, when Eloise gets better, you and Calla should get engaged. I'll find someone to help pick a date for the engagement party, and we can invite friends and family to celebrate."

Mary expected Michael to refuse and had prepared a lot of arguments to persuade him.

But she never expected Michael to agree so readily. "Okay," he said.

Despite Michael's affirmative response, Mary felt a bit lost, sitting there with all her prepared arguments left unsaid.

Back at the Thomas family mansion, Mary got out of the car and walked excitedly towards the main house.

Michael agreeing to get engaged to Calla was fantastic news for Mary. For so many years, she had always hoped that Michael would smoothly marry and start a family.

She entered the living room, and a servant greeted her, "Mrs. Thomas."

Mary grabbed the servant and asked, "Where's Calla?"

The servant bowed and respectfully replied, "She's upstairs in her room taking a nap. She gave strict instructions not to be disturbed by anyone."

Mary nodded and said, "Alright, I won't disturb her then. She's been pregnant for a while now and gets tired easily. Let her rest well."

She sat on the sofa, closing her eyes to rest while waiting for Calla to wake up from her nap.

After a while, Calla came downstairs.

Anthony was beside her, supporting her.

He said, "Dr. Griffin, take it slow; watch your step on the stairs."

Calla said, "Mr. Thomas, I'm not that delicate; I can walk by myself."

Hearing the voices, Mary looked up the stairs and saw Calla's flushed cheeks.

Mary smiled and greeted her, "Calla, I was just about to come up to see you, but the servant said you were napping and didn't want to disturb you. It looks like you had a good rest this afternoon. Your face is very rosy."

Calla quickened her pace down the stairs, her expression looking somewhat anxious.

She stood by the sofa and said, "Mrs. Thomas, I didn't mean to avoid seeing you. I've just been feeling very tired and sleepy lately."

Mary smiled and patted her hand reassuringly. "Calla, I don't blame you at all. You're still in your pregnancy, so you need to rest well for the baby to be healthy. From now on, consider this your home. Make yourself comfortable."

Calla smiled obediently. "Thank you, Mrs. Thomas. You're so kind to me; it feels just like being with my mother."

Mary blinked and smiled. "Calla, soon you'll be able to call me 'Mom'."

Calla didn't fully grasp what Mary meant, but she had a vague idea. Her heart started to race, and she tried to suppress her excitement.

But Calla was afraid that what Mary was about to say wasn't what she had been hoping for.

Trying to remain composed, Calla asked, "Mrs. Thomas, why did you say that all of a sudden?"

Mary pulled her to sit down together. "Today, I went to check on Eloise at Michael's place. She's still asleep, but once she gets better, you and Michael will have your engagement ceremony."

Calla suppressed the smile at the corners of her mouth.

She said worriedly, "Mrs. Thomas, I'm afraid Michael won't agree to this so easily."

Mary smiled, "This time, you're wrong. As soon as I mentioned it, Michael agreed right away!"

Calla's eyes widened in surprise.

Did Michael agree to the engagement that easily? It must be because of Eloise. He would do anything for her.

But marrying Michael was Calla's dream. As long as she was Michael's wife, she didn't care how many women were in his heart.

Mary looked up and saw Anthony nearby.

She asked, "Anthony, I wanted to ask you earlier. Didn't you say you were going out? Why are you back so soon?"
