Chapter 249 The Design of Falling into Water

Carter was floored when he heard the news, his jaw practically hitting the floor. He instantly regretted spilling the beans to Michael.

Was Elizabeth's warning about keeping quiet meant to keep Michael in the dark?

Was there some messy history between them? Too late to take it back now.

Michael got back to the villa with Eloise and told her to head to her room. Then he locked himself in his own room, sat by the window, and buried his head in his hands, deep in thought.

Why would Elizabeth lie to him? Carter's surgery was definitely done by Elizabeth. But she claimed she didn't know him. Had she been lying to Michael all along? What was her deal?

She knew Michael was desperately looking for a doctor for Eloise, yet she acted like she didn't care. How could she be so heartless?

Michael didn't want to think about it anymore. He called a bodyguard and asked for some wine from the cellar.

Soon, the table in the outer room was covered in wine bottles.

When Matthew showed up, Michael was already pretty drunk.

Matthew said, "Michael, we invited you out for a drink, but you ditched us to drink alone at home."

He eyed the wine bottles and added, "You've got all this good wine stashed away and didn't invite me? That's just mean!"

Michael waved him off and said, "Take some when you leave!"

Matthew grinned, "Great!"

He walked over to Michael and asked, "Michael, is something wrong? Why are you drinking so much alone?"

Michael looked miserable and asked, "Matthew, what do you think about my relationship with Elizabeth?"

"Is this about her again? Michael, after all these years, you still can't let her go?" Matthew asked.

Michael pressed, "Just tell me, how did I treat her? Did I ever do anything to hurt her?"

Matthew replied, "I can't speak for your relationship, but I know you treated her really well. I've never seen you treat another woman like that. Except for Eloise, of course."

Michael shook his head, "Eloise is different. You can't compare her to Elizabeth."

Matthew sighed, "Michael, you don't get women. Their jealousy can be intense."

Michael wiped his face and said, "Do you know what I can't stand the most about her?"

Matthew cautiously asked, "What? Did she cheat on you?"

Michael held his head and yelled, "She lied to me! She's been lying to me all along! Today, I found out she's the final and most important disciple of Ms. Johnson. She knew I was looking for her this whole time, but she kept leading me on, making me look like an idiot."

Outside the door, Calla's eyes went wide with shock.

She had been resting at the old mansion. After hearing Michael rush out after a phone call, she packed up and left too.

She had a feeling the call was about Elizabeth.

So she didn't alert the driver or bodyguard and took a taxi to the Thomas family villa. Susan told her Michael hadn't returned, so Calla pretended to be very weak. "Susan, I'm just here to see if I left anything in the guest room. I'll pack up and leave. No need to bother Michael."

Soon, she heard him get out of the car. When Matthew arrived, she heard that too. She took advantage of Susan's distraction and quietly went to Michael's door, only to hear this bombshell.

Emily's final and most important disciple was actually Elizabeth. So, she was the one who did Eloise's surgery.

No wonder she could threaten Calla with such confidence.

But why did she keep it from Michael after doing Eloise's surgery? Why let Calla take all the credit?

Calla sneered to herself, 'Oh, you think you're so above it all, Elizabeth. You don't care about Michael's love? You're so full of yourself!'

She quietly went back to the guest room, hatching a nasty plan in her mind.

She wanted to turn Michael against Elizabeth, make him hate her forever, and never listen to a word she said.

Calla went downstairs and told Susan she found some stuff in the next guest room that might belong to Elizabeth.

Susan said, "I'll call Elizabeth and ask her to come get them."

Calla quickly stopped her. "Just tell her I took the things to the old mansion. Let her come there to find me."

There were cameras all over the villa, making it hard for Calla to do anything. But the old mansion had plenty of blind spots.

Thinking of this, Calla smiled coldly.

She then took a taxi back to the old mansion.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth was surprised to get Susan's call.

She hadn't been to the Thomas family villa in ages. What could she have left there that she needed to go to the old mansion to get?

Was Calla purposely bringing her to the old mansion to avoid meeting Michael?

Elizabeth thought maybe getting the things was just an excuse, and Calla probably had something to say to her.

She told Dean and drove to the old Thomas mansion.

When Elizabeth walked into the courtyard, Calla was sitting in the pavilion by the pond, feeding the fish. Seeing Elizabeth walk in, she tossed all the fish food into the pond, stood up, and slowly walked towards her.

She said, "You got here fast."

Elizabeth looked at her blankly and asked, "Where are the things?"

Calla sneered. "What things? Elizabeth, how can you be so dumb? There's nothing of yours left in the villa."

Sensing Calla's hostile tone, Elizabeth turned to leave.

But Calla grabbed her. "Elizabeth! You ruined my engagement party with Michael. Are you feeling proud of yourself?"

Elizabeth said, "Calla, that's between you two. Don't drag me into it. If you feel wronged, talk to Michael, not me."

Calla said, "Can you deny you were the one who called him away? If it weren't for you, he'd already be my fiancé."

Elizabeth responded, "If you can't keep him, that's your problem. Don't blame me."

Calla said, "Sure, I can keep his body, but not his heart. Every night he holds me, but he calls out your name. Tell me, should I hate you? Can you still say this has nothing to do with you?"

Elizabeth replied coldly, "If you can't make him love you, that's on you."

"Really? Elizabeth, what do you have? Giving birth to a sick child like Nolan, is that your talent?" Calla sneered at Elizabeth.

Calla could say anything about Elizabeth, but she couldn't insult Nolan. Elizabeth couldn't stand it.

She said again, "I've told you, your issues are between you two. Don't drag me into it!"

She then shook off Calla.

But Calla looked at her with a sinister smile and said, "Elizabeth, just you wait!"

Elizabeth was about to ask Calla what she was waiting for when she saw Calla lean back and fall into the koi pond with a splash.

Seeing this, Elizabeth was stunned.

The loud splash alarmed the servants in the garden. They rushed over and shouted into the pond, "Dr. Griffin!"

Calla was still floundering in the pond and screamed, "Help! Save me! I can't swim!"
