Chapter 95 Is Her Death Related to Him?
"I know, so I came. I know Samuel did something wrong to you. But he has already escaped. Michael, whatever punishment you have, direct it at me. I'll do anything you ask. Just spare the Taylor Family. My father is not in good health and can't take any more stress."
Michael's face was stone-cold. "Margaret, you've been with me for years. I'm not going after the Taylor Family. Samuel's the one who messed up, not the rest of them. But if you say you didn't get involved in, then leave. Get out of Aurora Bay and don't let me see you again. Otherwise, I can't promise I won't change my mind and go after the Taylors."
Tears streamed down Margaret's face. She wiped them away gently. "Alright, Michael, I'll go resign now. I'll leave Aurora Bay. I hope you won't hold any grudges against me or the Taylor Family."
Margaret stumped out despondently.
Elizabeth, escorted by police officers, arrived at the scene.
The area was already cordoned off, with a perimeter set up by the police.
Elizabeth approached the body on the ground.
It had been a while since she last saw Patricia.
She took one look at the body and ran to a nearby trash can.
The body was unrecognizable, the face completely disfigured. Features smashed beyond recognition. Brains splattered everywhere.
Even though she hadn't eaten, Elizabeth clung to the trash can, vomiting uncontrollably.
A female officer walked over and gently patted her back. "Ms. Jones, you've had a tough time."
Elizabeth apologized, "I'm sorry. I haven't seen her in a long time. I really can't be sure if it's Patricia."
The female officer said, "It's okay. We've also notified her mother, Jennifer. Jennifer has booked a flight back and will arrive soon. A mother should recognize her own child, right?"
Elizabeth straightened up, and mumbled, "I suppose so."
The female officer added, "If not, we can still do a DNA test."
Elizabeth asked, "Was it suicide or homicide?"
The officer replied, "The case is still under investigation, so there's no conclusion yet."
After regaining her composure, Elizabeth called Anthony.
Patricia's social circle wasn't that complicated.
Why did she jump? Did she offend someone? Owe money? Or have a fight with Anthony?
Elizabeth needed to ask Anthony to confirm.
When Anthony picked up, he gabbled, "Elizabeth? Finally, you remembered me. You finally called. Do you know I never forgot you? I've always been thinking about you. It was my fault before."
Elizabeth cut him off. "Stop! I'm calling to ask if you know Patricia is dead?"
Anthony seemed shocked. "What did you say? Patricia is dead? How is that possible? We talked on the phone last night."
"It's true. She jumped from the 19th floor of the hotel this morning. The police are still investigating. Does this have anything to do with you?" Elizabeth asked.
"Elizabeth, what are you thinking? Even though I don't like Patricia, we were together for a while. She didn't offend me, so why would I push her to die?"
"No falling out? No conflicts?" Elizabeth was skeptical.
Anthony had lost all credibility with her.
"No, Elizabeth. Honestly, even though you're the one I truly love, Patricia was really good to me. That's why I stayed with her. She was always so accommodating, always looking out for me. So, I didn't dislike her. By the way..." Anthony suddenly seemed to remember something, "do you think this has anything to do with Michael?"
Elizabeth's anger flared up. "Don't drag Michael into this. He probably doesn't even know who Patricia is. Besides, I was with Michael all day yesterday. There's no way he did this."
Anthony sounded hurt. "Elizabeth, do you like Michael that much? Why do you always defend him? You never defended me like this before."
"Don't talk to me about the past. Did you think about our past when you were with Patricia? So, don't bring it up to disgust me." Elizabeth angrily hung up the phone.
Her mind was in turmoil.
Yesterday, someone had tried to attack Michael.
And this morning, Patricia fell to her death.
Could it really be a coincidence?
Could Patricia's fall have anything to do with Michael?
Elizabeth didn't want to think too deeply about it.
Judging by Michael's character, he definitely wouldn't let those who attacked him yesterday get away. And the mastermind would surely meet a terrible end.
Elizabeth took a cab to Nancy's place.
Nancy didn't go to work today.
Elizabeth sat on the couch, looking lost.
Nancy saw her in this state and asked with concern, "Elizabeth, what's wrong? Did something happen? Is it something between you and Michael again?"
Elizabeth looked up and held Nancy's hands with her trembling ones.
Nancy was startled. "Elizabeth, why are your hands so cold? Let me get you a hot water bottle."
Elizabeth grabbed her hand and said, "No need, Mom. I just came to tell you that Patricia is dead."
Nancy was a bit surprised, "Patricia? She's dead? How could it be so sudden? A car accident?"
Elizabeth shook her head. "No. The police called me to collect her body. She jumped from the 19th floor of the hotel and died on the spot. Her body was completely shattered; I couldn't even recognize her."
Nancy hugged Elizabeth and gently patted her back to calm her nerves. "Elizabeth, relax. In life, there are always separations by life and death. We just need to live our own lives well."
Elizabeth said skeptically, "Mom, I'm thinking, Patricia and her mother were so greedy, they would never commit suicide."
Nancy asked, "What did the police say?"
"They haven't figured it out yet. Whether it's suicide or homicide, it's still undetermined," Elizabeth replied.
Nancy asked attentively, "Elizabeth, are you worried that this has something to do with Michael?"
Elizabeth didn't say anything, which was as good as admitting Nancy's words.
Nancy said, "Elizabeth, if you're really worried, why don't you go back and ask Michael? He will definitely tell you the truth. Whether he did it or not, he will tell you. And given his character, even if he did it, it must be because Patricia did something unforgivable to him. He did it for revenge."
